Have always wanted to see Dempsey tried as a mid. If he can develop an inside game he could be really good.

100%.For a little wiry guy he has put size on pretty well so far. My reservation would be similiar to Knevitt in that I'm not sure he likes the bash and crash required for an inside mid.
He definitely is built for the inside action. Have you seen his strength one out?? Is very strong through the core and is able to hold his position well and push off. He will be very good head over ball around the middle and he has the endurance to get to stoppages.

Been told Geelong have asked the question regarding windhager but St kilda confident of an extension
F/S are 3rd i would say on the list of problems with the draft.![]()
Geelong coach Chris Scott strongly questions father-son rule and voices views on northern academies, equalisation
Geelong coach Chris Scott has strongly challenged the father-son rule, labelling it as “bizarre” and a “relic of the past” which he says goes against the AFL’s ambition to create an equalised competition.
Scott made a tongue-in-cheek comment on AFL360 this week to have “no father-sons” when discussing what should change in the game following Greg Swann’s appointment as the league’s football boss.
Asked why he wants to see the father-son rule scrapped, Scott clarified his position in a lengthy explanation as he questioned several highly-rated father-sons in recent years, the price clubs pay for those players, and the unfair advantages father-sons have compared to other potential draftees.
I think people misinterpret that with Dempsey a bit. When he finds himself in a 1v1 on the wing he tries to outsmart his opponent but when he misjudges whatever move he makes, it doesn't look great. His style unsurprisingly is more like a basketball point guard trying to make a steal with quick hands. He has nver looked like he enjoyed the robust part of the game to my eye. He has shown what he can already do well..and few can do it as well as him.

1 Free Agency compensation shouldn't exist and if it has to exist end of first round should be the start.
2 discounts on academy players.. instead of giving a discount make it so they have to use a pick in the same round as the bid and no discount.
3 F/S same as above get rid of the discount and make it so you have to use a selection in the same round to match.
If a team is given priority access why do they also get discounts it is pure bullshit the benefit is the priority access.
Another thing they could do is limit it to 1 priority selection per team per year so if GCS have 3 academy players they have to pick 1 as a priority the others go into the open draft.. Another example would be Coll who has 1 F/S and an academy prospect well they can pick 1 but miss the other.
The above doesn't eliminate draft bullshit but it does limit it.

I don't necessarily think you can use that to discount what he could eventually do at stoppages. As he said, behind the scenes Kelly is doing a lot of work to help Dempsey develop that niche craft. Along with a couple more years in the gym that may mean we see it more in 2027/2028 rather than next year. I think it has potential further down the track though.
With Knevitt I don't see the tricks, ball skills, X factor or composure to generate winning plays. And at AFL level he can't find enough of the footy. A completely different prospect to Dempsey.
In a couple of years Dempsey's frame won't be any different to Daicos. I'll trust Scott and co. on this one, with the greatest of respect.I know its a different era but I don't like the idea of his frame in where guys like Danger will be thundering in.
I agree it has a lot of problems and no matter where they start it needs to happen nowThere are a lot issues ..and one can only tackle each problem and knock them over one at a time.. That CS has put FSon on the table will instantly draw comments as we are considered a club that has benefited from it ..even though its been near 20 years since we have had a highly rated FSon. Personally I think its on the clock and sooner or later it will go.
I totally disregard they make them pay argument ..cause for some players…there is no amount that a club would not pay to get access. No matter if its FSon or NGA or whatever.
I agree on FA comp but a lot would have to change for that to work like a reduction in the years required to qualify ..so there were more FA’s available. Till that happens , I think you will always need some sort of safety belt for bottom sides.
Yeah not sure. People forget the average F/S selectionsThere are a lot issues ..and one can only tackle each problem and knock them over one at a time.. The article was about the future, which was why I talked about the future. In any case, Daicos 2023 was in midfield. Frame wasn't an issue. In a couple of years then maybe a I reassess. Im talking about what has been and is more than then.

The first round is starting to last till pick 30ish sometimes which is ****ing stupid
As for "make them pay" that is the point Coll with Daicos, Bris with Ashcroft, Dogs with Darcy etc would 100% of paid a first round selection and a couple of seconds or 3rds to get them instead of the 2nds and 3rds 4ths they they did use

Stoppages are completely different to a hard ball get on the wing. It's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog that is the concern.

Again, look at Daicos. Has had around 100 of the efforts we've criticised Dempsey for around the ground. He's still become a gun midfielder.
Nope, they attack 50/50 ground balls around the ground in an identical fashion. Dempsey is much more physical in marking contests. We've yet to see how Dempsey operates in stoppages.Daicos has an exaggeration factor imo.
Dempsey is talented, no doubt, but he's also gun-shy imo.

The coaches have their perspective too. Dempsey is in very good hands. We see it differently.
