Not really. His manager will want it as a if WCE are doing better by then he locks them into 9 years on huge money (betting he will play finals at some point during it) and if not 2 years allows him to get out to play finals in Vic knowing he will probably only get 1.7 per year (for example) at a Vic club. Best of both worlds.

A Million and a half it a lot of money to leave on the table

I'm not even kidding, he's the best player in the comp right now
Closest player I've seen to prime GAJ, or at least he's suggesting he could get to that level.

Up until this point I've scoffed at any suggestion that any player since has been as god, but he's giving me similar vibes. His speed, agility, skill and versatility makes him an incredibly well-rounded player. Definitely my favourite non-Cats player at the moment. Saints are very lucky they've had him this year, as they'd likely be contending with a much worse finish without. If they need to retire or trade off some of their veterans to keep him, they should do it. Future is bleak for Saints fans without him as a shining light and beacon of hope.

Hard pass on Clayton Oliver now unless they attach a pick to him.
How about multiple round 1 picks while still paying majority of his contract - that's the sort of thing I'd be wanting to see

If that's the contract they won't be able to move him
I’m unsure if you understand player option contracts. If he signs for two, plus player option, he may wish to move at year 3. Salary has ended as the player has opted to not sign on.

He gets 1.8-2m per year, sets him up for life. Club is locked in for two years only.

I think he would definitely be in the discussion right now and he would definitely improve us significantly - But from what we are to believe it's either St Kilda or an Adelaide team (with Port probably having their noses in front due to the Burgoyne connection) - Although the late journalist Patrick Smith used to say that "lying was the 2nd language of the AFL"
Given this the rumours and wish list forum I'll give it a go as to how it might happen:

1. first and formost he would want to come here - well, doesn't everybody? - plus we have a strong indigenous playing group (which I love as person of indigenous heritage)

2. we would have to satisfy the sainters - The only real way we could do this would be a potential De Koning reunion - with both Tom leaving Carlton to take on the enormous offer and Sam as part of a potential trade

3. There would also need to be draft picks associated as well - R1 and possible swap of R2's (this is predicated on the basis that the Saints value Sam as potential 2 x R1 or at least a R1 & R2)

4. We would need to be able to find the salary - which, given recent speculation it appears we would be ok there (plus we would have SDK's salary off our books)

You'd just have to be certain that the use of collateral like SDK and picks would be worth it for NWM - I think it would be - just need to be sure we are not guilty of "Recency Bias" - dont think so in this case

Yep. Lacks the contest game of GAJ but he is so dominant right now. A real pleasure to watch as well.

While the option doesn't create an obligation between club B and Reid. It sets the floor for any negotitations, he won't be excited to be leaving on that much of a pay cut (if any). He is pricing himself at the level of best player in the competition. Any club able to come to the party will be in a similar situation to WCE. Given that there will be gap between his wage(plus other acquisition costs) and performance, any club that attempts to meet it is sabotaging is setting a ceiling on their list.

He'll find himself in a situation where he either takes the option or takes like half the money to move, which he won't (If he was the kind of person to do that he would be going for this type of contract in the first place, if a player views themselves as a stakeholder they don't want to take too much more then their worth, see Holmes taking a four year deal) .

Yes but that's what players do for success. If it looks like they will be bottom 4 for a decade like the roos I think he leaves for less. But he will give them 2 years to show they can improve I reckon.this is essentially what Josh Kelly did with his contract plus option albeit there wasn't as much pressure on gws as they were contending (but he still turned down a lot of money at NM to stay, just not as much money as reid).

Never saw GAJ take a hanger like NWM yesterday ;)
