He doesn't get it as a "choice" at the same time as such - national draft comes first
And if he goes as a senior, full-list player, then it's always 2 years to start.
Butters is in the area where we need more cavalry.People can come at me
But I would take Zac Bailey over Zak Butters
No such thing as committing to rookie a player in the DFA window. Is the national draft before the DFA window? In other words if we don’t offer him a contract but commit to rookie him, the only way another club can get him is through the draft?
Afl.com saying cats will only have 2 selections in the national draft. Pick 19 and Mellor I assume and then add Rongdit onto the rookie list.

1. Kolo wasn't fit.
2. Stewart and Kolo are not his competition.
3. He is the only small defender not in the team on the list that IS AFL standard.
Bailey should have kicked on Clark playing in defence in the GF. You reckon he has that much influence on Bews? I know he wouldn't have.
Should be retained.
This will be fun once you keep reading onMaybe be should be but other contracts and list numbers dictate he wont be.
I wonder if we can move someone like Stanley to the rookie list. We're so tight for list spots.
It's also impossible to see us bringing in a depth ruck unless it's via the rookie draft with no spaces on the list.

I get it, but one is the 4th or 5th best player in his team, the other is the 4th or 5th best player in the league.People can come at me

Agree entirely about it being a rare blunder from Scotty.Still easily our best lock down defender and a rare coaching blunder he hasn't played more
Butters holmes smith is an elite trio and will take our engine room from B to A grade overnight as a wholeI get it, but one is the 4th or 5th best player in his team, the other is the 4th or 5th best player in the league.

I'd be disappointed if we go into the draft with less than 3 spots, even if we don't use the last one.
Are we allowed to trade our P19 this year for future picks? I'm wondering if we're in a position to see what trading down P19 nets us in terms of futures, with a view to grabbing Mellor later.. and then having more to work with to put an offer together for Butters.I'd be disappointed if we go into the draft with less than 3 spots, even if we don't use the last one.
I wouldn't and im usually a draft guy. It's not a great pool so nothing outside the top 20 really enthuses me. There's not much difference between pick 30 and a rookie pick this year.
We will have to have a bigger turnover though next year due to need to transition the list. But some retirements (stanley, possibly danger etc) and fringe guys (knevitt etc) getting delisted plus trades should see to it.

Mullin is cat b rookie. They can do up to 5 years as cat b, except when they’ve played more than 10 afl games by end of year 3. This is the case with Mullin and therefore has to be upgraded this year (as part of a previously extended contract which effectively guaranteed that he’d get moved to the senior list).I don't mind it but I dont know how the numbers would work re cleared senior list spots. Maybe the afl are going to give us an exemption to let mullin do one more year on the rookie list.

I'd want three picks too.The skill in recruitment is seeing what others don't, finding out information without revealing it to others.
I'm expecting that we'll use our 2nd pick and I'll feel disapointment we don't have a 3rd. I think there is a bit of group think happening, I don't think the draft footage I seen has been particularly that noteable in either direction. But if too many go all in the its a bad draft direction, I think it opens up opportunity
Wouldnt Walsh be a more likeky get being he is a former Falcon? Or could some magic to get bothButters holmes smith is an elite trio and will take our engine room from B to A grade overnight as a whole
Its the top end that is average in this draft. No really elite prospects. Heaps of clubs want nothing to do with this draft. The skill in recruitment is seeing what others don't, finding out information without revealing it to others.

Was he actually raised and Bred in geelong?Wouldnt Walsh be a more likeky get being he is a former Falcon? Or could some magic to get both
I would not, but only because I rate Zak Butters so highly, especially for our needs.People can come at me

I think we're as a good a chance as anyone to get Butters. I just don't think Bailey is on our radar and nor are we on his.
