I'd go for hope. Don't rule out the Baggers cos of connections. If they show they are competitive, which I think they will. They will have the trade bait and wherewithal.

Any bid matching gurus want to check me on this please do, but i'm pretty sure our pick isn't sliding as much as we thought.

Uwland is a top 3 pick so he takes both 15 and 18 from the Suns. They can maybe trade out futures but do they want to? If they don't that's actually our pick going forward to 18 not backward.

Then Patterson gets a bid mid to late top 10, lets say 8. That pushes our 18 back to 19 where it started, but it also absorbs two of or even all 3 of their 20s picks. Our pick 40 is now 37.

After that it's Dean who should get ahead of the blues picks but if he doesn't there's no impact to our pick 19 though likely it's now 20 and the blues do some reactive trading. If there's trading then likely the 37 comes in further.

Then it'd be Lachie Charmichael who pushes our 20 to 21 but brings the 37 in again by one place overall.

So i think that it's likely, despite all the hand wringing about academies pushing picks out, that the new points distribution means that we end up with 21 and 36-40, starting with 19 and 40.

I did not say that they did not do the best for us, as they offered more than plenty.
My main point is that Mackie and Scott wanted to improve the ruck situation, and they did not. So for anyone to say that our ruck choices of Stanley, Blics and the rest is satisfactory, is obviously wrong, as we went out of our way to get an older ruckman in Marshall.

We need genuine A grade midfield talent.

A ruck or a full forward wasn't stopping the avalanche of midfield talent Brisbane have at their disposal.
Honestly about 9 guys who can run through the guts and look comfortable.

We have to make a big move next offseason, we CAN NOT afford to be sitting on our hands (not that we ever do) while Paddy, Blics, Jez, Stewy etc are on the backend of their careers.
Time to compete is now, we must get the star midfielder to lead the way with our outside runners (Dash bros), our inside bulls (Atkins and Worpel) and our defensive mids (Mullin, Bowes, Bruhn?)

Butters or Walsh are those players.

We should not have to be playing Miers, Mannagh, Jez at stages through the guts just to offset it...that's a shortfall of a position we lack genuine talent in....not that we don't have talent there its just a glaring weakness.

That's why i'm big now on our first pick in the draft for Wells and Mack going and grabbing a ball winning mid.
I don't care what anybody says about this draft, there is talent there.

One guy i think would be a huge help in our Draft range is Sam Cumming. North Adelaide kid, 186cm so not small by any means and can win footy but the best part. He's strong, he can take a mark and he can go forward and kick goals which is something we lack. Mids who push forward to kick goals. I think we are one of the worst sides in the League for goal kicking mids. Lions are stacked with players who do it.

I get it, we have an elite forward line but we shouldn't have to rely on just forwards to kick them. Makes us more of a threat.

The pool of talent this year was low. There's much better players available next year that I would rather we target so im fine with what we did.



If you listen to Ross lyons comments last night honestly they weren't ever trading him (which is unfortunate for him) I dont think it would have mattered what we offered.

Clearly what we offered never mattered as it went from pick 19 to that plus 2026 rd 1 a d they still walked from it

Probably more than $1 million in the end when I think about it.

offering lets say 750k for 4 or 5 years = 3 or 3.75million.

He probably just stayed at GWS for 400ish for 2x years = 800k

Because everyone knew they were so into him, nobody else had time to look into him and GWS didn't have hardly any $$$ saved for him because they expected him to go.

Deadset scammed this guy out of at least $2 million.

Complete dogs act, one of the worst I can think of... surprised they haven't been smashed even harder for doing so.

It's almost theft.

Imagine thinking for so long you are gonna get this huge contract... even last week grubby allen said "we'll get it done" and then they just say... nahhh.

It's a rug pull on Aleer... Cost him millions... Dude gonna be depressed as over it.

I’m all for. Giving him his chances.. and Josh Cowan got 7 years on the list.. but maybe if wants a rookie spot?

Mackie and Wells knew it though. All this little gambit was intended to achieve was making us look even more like the team that tries to do right by players. Next year clubs, players, and managers are going to remember how the Saints treated Marshall and Leek Aleer, and remember how we tried to treat Marshall, and who do you think they're going to want to negotiate with?

My understanding is GWS was able to match because we paid Cameron nothing extraordinary. $900k I think.

From what I have seen and read of jevin phillipou, hard pass.

Wouldn’t shock me if he slipped thru to a rookie or late pick.

Lacks polish with his kicking, smaller sized, is quick but not as quick as thought ( ran closer to 3sec 20m) at combine.

I am a huge fan of matteaus phillipou and think he will become an A grader in 2026.

Yes - but I want Edwards to be slowly brought in. He’s a bean pole right now and has great skills for a big bloke.. but I fear he needs 18 months to get fully up to speed.

I reckon Edwards could be really good.. just can’t rush him
