I did suggest delisting kmf but I didn't think they actually would. Will Wiltshire survive?
I would have sent stanley to the rookie list because i think hes less likely to be poached, i worry another club will pick stevens up at the back end of the ND.

I would have thought Stanley, Bews or even Conway as potentially better options

I get it could be a big risk with Conway if he finally comes good, but I would have looked at it please as an option where he's contracted for the next two years and if he was on the rookie list next year it's with the idea of taking the pressure off him to get back on the park in 2026, instead using the year to get his body right

So does this leave us now with 2 list spots to fill via the ND? Three if Wiltshire is delisted?

Yep - currently 2

But depending on Wilshire and Bews, it could be up to 4 - and I know Bews has been offered a deal but say North offer him 2, surely we wouldn't stand in his way

I doubt we'd be hoping that as that would have an impact salary wise - if another team picks him up as a rookie prior to us being able to pick him back up, we'd be up for the difference between a rookie wage and that which he was owed as a second year player

I can remember that issue being raised when we delisted Brownless and the potential risks involved

So it's not something you do if you think another club will jump in first
The club wouldn’t delist-to-rookie a player unless they have accepted that they are a long shot and are willing to risk losing them, so would be fine with either player getting poached.

Both late picks and would be around the minimum salary for main list players, wasting a year’s pay is a drop in the ocean of a $15+M salary cap.

Do we have a summary of what we have done …. ? Something like ..

Delisted 2 Rookies ..Retchco and Ivisic ….

Delisted 1 rookie B Clohesy

Delisted from the main list Guthrie , Duncan

Delisted from the main list GStevens , KMF with a commitment to redraft as rookies ..

So it looks like they have delisted Patrick Retchco and X Ivisic to make room for the redrafting of GS and KMF..

So with the addition of Worpell … we have 2 draft spots available for the draft ?

Id agree that Im a little surprised that Wiltshire has been kept over a couple of others. Id have thought his spot on the list is not secure considering the type of player he is

Going to be re-rookied assuming someone else doesn't grab him, got a Brownlow vote on debut so he has talent and showed it in the VFL, but probably needs another big AFL pre-season before you see what his level is.

Needs a tank, great contested played but he can look slow.
He has a tank, its speed that’s the issue with George.

any guesses to why we delisted clohesy free up list spots? i know we'll never know but like discussing hypotheticals

He's a rookie who would have needed to be upgraded to the senior list

If we're delisting contracted players to open up senior spots for the draft, then it makes it hard to see how we would have tried to squeeze in a second rookie upgrade

It seems criminal that someone with a booming left foot like KMF can't make it.
That's why I'm hoping he can get a full pre-season in as I want to see what he could offer in his second year as he looks to be that point of difference to others on our list

Not saying he's guaranteed to make it, but that left leg looks like the potential to be a real weapon

If Duncan, Guthrie, Stevens and KMF are all gone from the main list with only the addition of Worpel doesn’t that leave 3 spots to fill in the ND or am I missing something?

No way Conway would get through the National draft. Clubs are well aware of his talent and would take a punt. Clohesy and stevens are likely to be left by other clubs

Always easier this way to see what it would look like in print:

✅ = Confirmed list spot
®️ = Rookie list

In:
  • James Worpel ✅
  • Oisin Mullin (upgraded) ✅
  • Oskar Taylor (?)
  • Jesse Mellor (?)
  • Ben Rongdit (?) (CBR)
Out:
  • Mitch Duncan (retired) ✅
  • Cam Guthrie (delisted) ✅
  • Keighton Matofai-Forbes (delisted) (re-rookie) ✅
  • George Stevens (delisted) (re-rookie) ✅
  • Ted Clohesy (R) (delisted) ®️
  • Xavier Ivisic (R) ®️
  • Patrick Retschko (R) ®️
The only real surprise for mine is no Wiltshire as of yet.

I've mentioned KMF frequently as an option, so I'm not shocked there, more just surprised that they actually did it per se.

I get the calls for Pike, but he's a 20 year old ruck who is actually fit and available, on a list full of geriatrics and injury prone players in his position.

They'll keep him on that alone, and long-term hope that he becomes the Darcy Fort level backup ruck of this group, pending Conway and Edwards health.

Wiltshire I just don't get. I'm sure he's great guy, but he had one VFL hotstreak at the start of the year, and everything before and after has been delist material.

When you're 23, I would have thought they'd want more than that, but who knows.

Mullin as a rookie upgrade from CatB - done his 3 years and well over the newly introduced 10 game threshold

Just about every premiership teams needs a few PoDs, including:
  • the full-steam-ahead defender who can hit the scoreboard
  • the small/mid with an uncanny long kick

Don't think we quite ticked those boxes this year. KMF hasn't been in the system for even 12 months and is still only learning a defensive game, so talk of needing to get rid of him is insane.

With Duncan and now Clohesy gone, the reserves looks thin for AFL-capable midfielders. Club surely looking at mature-age or delisted players?

We don't have the room. We've got 2 spots open for the draft.

My guess is we'll take our first pick, Mellor and then Rongdit as a cat B if he isn't bid on during the draft.

Remember we've got Worpel and Bruhn as effectively new players.

I don’t get it either. Didn’t see anything in Wiltshire at all to be worthy of keeping

Have a feeling we may reach a bit for Hunter Holmes with our first pick. Bank on him following a similar development pathway to Max.
That would be a lot more than a reach.

Pretty much everyone has him as a really late pick, or even a rookie selection. It's only that one poster on the draft board who is on an island with him going high.

If we want to be really certain, I'd just delist Wiltshire and take him with one of our later picks.

Would it be that much of a reach? The draft really thins out in quality around our pick. You wouldn’t be drafting him on current output but rather what he might project to get to..

I’d have a few ahead of him at that pick but can see the club backing our development program in to get the best out of him. He’s a late developer so I reckon his scope for improvement is far higher than many in the draft.

Silence on Wiltshire possibly more about draft flexibility and no commitments to him - depends on what is available at pick 60 or as a potential rookie. If two ok candidates, then he’ll be lucky to stay as a rookie at best.

Sounds like that would be a big reach. Cam Guthrie was a very good player by 2016 but we still only rookie listed Zach.

Maybe we look to trade our first into next year if someone's desperate come draft night and take Mellor and Holmes late.
