The GIANTS are delighted to announce the appointment of Adam Kingsley as the club’s next AFL head coach.

As a former Premiership and Best and Fairest winner with Port Adelaide, where he played 170 games, Kingsley quickly moved into coaching following his playing career, immediately taking up assistant coaching roles with Port Adelaide and then St Kilda. After eight years with the Saints, Kingsley joined Richmond as assistant coach in 2019 where he played a leading role in the Tigers’ last two Premierships.

GIANTS Chief Executive Officer David Matthews said Kingsley's appointment marked the next chapter in the evolution of the football club. “On behalf of the Board and our entire organisation, I’m thrilled to confirm Adam Kingsley as our new head coach,” Mr Matthews said. “After a thorough and considered selection process, Adam’s vision for the club, our players and our people made him the standout candidate for the job. Adam has outstanding values that align with the GIANTS and with 16 years’ coaching experience he is an exceptional tactical coach, a strong, clear communicator, and someone who brings people together. In our 11 years in the competition we have undoubtedly become a successful club with a fantastic culture and a great playing list. But we haven’t been satisfied with our recent results. We - and Adam - believe success isn’t far away and we’re thrilled to have him lead us into our next chapter as a club. This is an incredibly exciting day for our club and Adam's appointment will not only take our playing group and football department forward but will help continue to grow our game across NSW and the ACT. We look forward to welcoming Adam, his wife Nadine and children Cayla, Ethan and Raf to the GIANTS family.”

Mr Matthews also paid tribute to caretaker coach Mark McVeigh. "We thank Mark for his efforts as interim senior coach and the tireless work he has contributed to our program since taking over in round 10,” Mr Matthews said. “It’s a difficult job to come in as caretaker coach but he attacked the role with fresh ideas and sought to improve our players, staff and program at every step. Mark is a person of the highest integrity and character, and he has always put the club first. He was steadfast in leaving the program ready for whoever would be taking over.”

Following an extensive interview process, Kingsley was deemed the best fit for the GIANTS by the club’s interview panel that consisted of Mr Matthews, Chairman Tony Shepherd AO, Football Director Jimmy Bartel and General Manager of Football Jason McCartney. Kingsley said he was honoured to have the opportunity to coach the club for the next three years. “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity,” he said. “It’s a privilege and an honour to be the next senior coach of the GIANTS. I’ve been clear in my aspirations to become a senior coach and over the last 16 years I’ve continued to learn and develop to the point now where I’m absolutely ready to take the next step in my coaching career. This is a club which has built a strong culture from the ground up in just a few short years. In just 11 years the GIANTS have made multiple preliminary finals, and a Grand Final, and while the ultimate success has eluded the club, it’s clear the building blocks are in place. It's clear the players, staff, members and fans are hungry for success, and we’re going to drive each other to get to where we want to go. I believe in this club and what we can achieve together.”

Kingsley played 170 games for Port Adelaide between 1997 and 2006 and was a member of the club’s inaugural team as well as their first Premiership in 2004. He won the Power’s club champion award in just his second season. In 2007, he became an assistant coach at Port Adelaide, a position in which he stayed in until the end of 2010. Kingsley joined St Kilda at the end of the 2010 season as an assistant coach before moving to Richmond in 2019.

Cant see how Clarko doesn’t end up at the Giants.
He won’t be waiting years for a Tassie team.
He said he’ll come back if it’s a group he thinks he can take to a flag.
Won’t be Saints - re-signing ratten.
Won’t be North - yuck.
Won’t be Suns - sticking with Dew.
Won’t be West Coast - aging list with retirements incoming.
Only other half chance is Bombers. But our list is far better placed. And they haven’t indicated what they’re doing with their coach.

cant help but feel Clarko isnt interested - the most desired list of clubs mentioned above, likely he names his price (AFL will kick in to get it over the line) - so whats he waiting on?

just come out and say you arent interested in the GWS job

AFL 2022: Alastair Clarkson reveals the reason he may return as a senior coach in 2023

News Corp Australia

The spectre of the four-time premiership coach is looming large over the AFL landscape as he weighs up a return to senior coaching next year.

A public declaration he coveted a senior role next year would send numerous clubs into a spin, but Clarkson said his future beyond this year remained undecided.

Although, Clarkson admitted his curiosity of whether he could deliver success to another club after leading Hawthorn to four flags was of “appeal” to him.

“The most significant intrigue for me is ‘was I just lucky to have that group of people at that point in time at that particular club?’” Clarkson said on ‘The Believers: Tasmania’s AFL journey’ podcast.

“The excitement for me is can it be done elsewhere with a different environment and a different group of people and see how we go?’

“That holds some appeal, but just doing what I’ve been doing in the past six months with a bit more farm time and a bit more friends time has got some appeal as well.”

Clarkson said he held back from entering the process to coach Collingwood or Carlton last year because it “didn’t suit” him at the time.

He said he’d only enter a club where everyone was on the same page with “shared values”.

“It makes it sound like I’ll be picking or choosing and there might not be opportunities to come back into coaching, and it might be that I don’t want to,” he said.

“I had an opportunity with both Carlton and Collingwood, not necessarily to be accepted to coach those clubs but certainly go into the process as an option, but it didn’t suit me.

“Strangely enough that had not so much to do with their direction and that sort of stuff as I could see they were both on a direction of where they wanted to go.

Clarkson has been a vocal advocate of a Tasmanian AFL team. Picture: Nikki Davis-Jones

“It was just around mine and (wife) Caryn’s and our family’s needs at that time.

“We wanted to make those decisions at the end of this year in terms of what our future will look like and not six months ago.

“And we’re still not ready to know what we want to do beyond 2022.”

Clarkson has been an active supporter of Tasmania’s bid for the 19th licence this year.

He said he was not sure if he’d be more interested in coaching or administration at the proposed club, but admitted he’d like to see a Tasmanian coach.

“I’d love Chris Fagan to coach the Tassie side or a Brendon Bolton,” he said.

“Guys are Tassie born and bred, I think that would be pretty special.”

All-Australian defender Nick Haynes trained as a forward in the club's final session before Sunday's clash in a strong sign that he'll line up there again as he did against Collingwood, with Harry Himmelberg set to continue his role in defence.

Well looks like we're going to see it again, wouldn't surprise me to see them match him up on Sicily to negate some of the intercepting like he did quite well against Moore last week

The headline does not match the comments in relation to Taranto.
The comments indicate that Taranto is happy in Sydney and wants to stay and is working through some stuff after putting it on hold whilst injured.
That does not equate to him being uncertain.
Dont get me wrong, it may leave, but the headline is very misleading.

Until he committs to a club his future is uncertain because we are not certain where he's going to be playing

Until he committs to a club his future is uncertain because we are not certain where he's going to be playing
that is true, and is true for many players in the competition.
However that is not the implication that the headline is making. The "future uncertain" line as long been used to indicate a player is likely to move on.
The comments in the article dont support that position.

Clarkson will be coaching the GC next season the afl want it and it will happen. These last two GC loses gives them the cover they need to punt Dew.

Rumour at the ground today that McVeigh has the job. Not happy with that seems like we have gone with the cheap option. I guess it will match our fitness department.

Not impressed with the people running the joint it appears they are happy to be a mediocre club.

Time will tell but if thats the case hopefully Solomon also stays on in a full time role and Hird maintains some role. Plus also put extra money in our fitness department.

How can that be the case when no one else has even been interviewed?

Maybe the people who make the decision see no need to interview outside options if they are happy with spike. Not saying I agree (my opinion is we need a shake up appointing spike seems the easy cheap and long term wrong option) or even it is true just reporting buzz at the ground yesterday.

Time will tell.

odd, because the rumour I heard (from a person who had a long conversation with a senior executive about it) was that as long as Clarko doesn’t want to be paid overs then the job is his. It’s all a question of money. The Giants want Clarko, but won’t pay through the nose for him. all they have to do is work through the terms.

I have a feeling the issue might be about him not wanting to move to Sydney

There might be a lack of interest. The names being floated arent exactly saying "yes i want the job", maybe in a month or 2 it might change a bit.
