It has changed. Rarely get much 'come on' anymore. (Pity!) He's a hell of a lot more mature....doesn't argue with umpires as much, only as much as other players, does any self motivating as much as any other player, doesn't call anyone ******* or morons or whatever anymore.

Nah not yesterday.

Im not sure about the umpire bit. He held himself back yesterday, gave the umpire a nice death stare (anyone else see that!!).

I missed it unfortunately, he's so cute when he's mad ;) I wish I'd got my brother to tape it for me. Might be some highlights on the news tonight. Why did I have to leave a game that he got fired up in? Damn, I wish I could have been part of the crowd later on, esp. cuz I was right near those Swedes :D (Got stuck near the Dutch people in the Philippoussis game too!) Stupid train

At one point when a call went against Hewitt, he stated: "I hate this stupid court". Funny stuff.

Eastaugh, you were saying that people disliked Lleyton just because of the stupid things he said and did long ago, right? And you defended Hewitt because he is much more mature now and doesn't do these sort of things anymore, right? Then how come you were blasting Philipoussis for his actions in the past, when he's obviously cleaned up his act? Basically put, you treat Philipoussis the same way as people treat your beloved Hewitt when both parties have cleaned up their acts. Hypocritical, don't you think?

As for where I stand in this issue, I think Lleyton has matured greatly. But I will not respect him too much until he wins his 3rd Open title (so he'll be ahead of Pat Rafter). But currently, he'd have to be my favourite Australian player. But he has nothing on Pat when it comes to maturity. Does anyone else notice that the Scud talks (and sounds) like a 6th grader whenever he's interviewed? Not very bright, is he? Now Molik... she's a great talker. No "you knows" or anything 'kiddish'.

Very astute point.

I think Hewitt's imporved enormously.
Also, some of us may remember that when Agassi started out he was an awful little brat. Now he's regarded by all the old folk as the gentleman of the game.
People do a lot of growing up around the age 16-20. Even those under the spotlight.

I haven't really noticed this actually.

What does the way he talk have to do with his intelligence (brightness?). Just a query.

Maybe he is just casual?

Or maybe he is nervous (unlikely)? Don't know mate, but IMO the way he talks could be an indication. If someone came up to you and talked in the same manner that the Scud does, you'd be wondering too. And I'm not saying that he's unintelligent just because of the way he talks, I'm saying that it could be an indication of that. Just my two cents.

But hey... I have nothing against the guy. I admire how he plays, and he's perobably a good bloke. I'm just pointing out what I've noticed, and was wondering.

Umm Actually I am fairly sure he was the Davis Cup coach or captain. I don't think he has ever been Rafters direct coach.
Point is really that Roachey should be been neutral in such a match.

ROCHE WAS RAFTERS COACH. ROCHE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO SIT THERE AS HE WAS PART OF THE RAFTER CAMP. HOW DARE PHILIPOUSSIS PUT DOWN SUCH A LEGEND OF AUSTRALIAN TENNIS

[/b]
This happen in 1998 did it not? Yes. In 1999 Philippoussis suffered injuries, only to win the Davis Cup final for us.
Since then he has had non-stop injuries and has been unable to gain some momentum. He will play Davis Cup this year (knee injuries permitting).

SURE HE DID PLAY IN ONE WINNING TEAM BUT THAT DOES NOT MAKE UP FOR HIS RELUCTANCE TO PLAY DAVIS CUP AT OTHER TIMES, PARTICULARLY LESS IMPORTANT MATCHES SUCH AS QUALIFIERS OR ROUND 1 AND 2s. HEWITT IS ALWAYS HAPPY AND PROUD TO PLAY FOR HIS COUNTRY.

[/b]
Sold all his cars, sold his place in florida, moved back to Melbourne to concentrate on tennis. Next

ABOUT TIME ISN'T IT ????

[/b]
Go into the match and risk further injury? Or rest and make sure you are as fit as you can possibly be for the Australia Open (GRAND SLAM EVENT).
I know which option I would take.

THERE WAS MORE TO IT THAN THAT. THE TENNIS PUBLIC AND ESPECIALLY THE PROMOTER WOULD UNDERSTAND IF THAT WAS THE CASE BUT PHILIPOUSSIS' LITTLE TANTRUM WITH THE PROMOTER COLIN STUBS WENT ON FOR QUITE A WHILE

[/b]
Philippoussis hasn't 'carried' on in a long time. Media beat-up aswell as ****ers like you holding onto the past.

EXCUSE ME YOU HYPOCRITE. WHAT ARE THE HEWITT HATERS DOING ???? HOLDING THINGS TO HIM FROM HIS TEENAGE YEARS ! PHILIPOUSSIS WAS STILL CARRYING ON WELL AFTER HIS TEEN YEARS.

He is an excellent tennis player. No doubt.
I just don't like his attitude (hasn't changed as much as you think) and the way he goes about his tennis (COME ON!! 1st game into the first set  ) [/B][/

YES HE IS A GREAT PLAYER, FAR BETTER AND GUTSIER THAN PHILIPOOSIS. HIS ATTITUDE HAS CHANGED, DESPITE WHAT YOU MAY SAY.EVERYONE IS IN AGREEANCE EXCEPT LAME PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO HOLD HIS TEEN YEARS TO HIM. HOW CAN YOU NOT LOVE HIS PASSION FOR HIS COUNTRY AND THE HEART THAT HE SHOWS ?????? ALSO, HIS COME ONS ARE HIS WAY OF GEEING HIMSELF UP AND GETTING PUMPED. SOME LIKE TO PLAY ON EMOTION ETC.

Perfect example. In act I think it took Agassi a little into his 20s to grow up and become such a fine sportsman. Some people are blind and refuse to admit things.

Excuse me you hypocrite. What are the Philipoussis haters (like you) doing? Holding things to him from five years ago. Hewitt was still winning tournments well after his teen years, and even both players know that there is a key called 'Caps Lock' which is located between the 'Tab' and 'Shift' keys on the left hand side of your keyboard (you know, the input device you type with). Here's an idea: Press it.

The Scud will play Davis Cup this year..

No you're wrong. There was nothing more to it. Why risk further injury when you have a chance in a Grand Slam

And what exactly are you doing here mate?
You're the hypocrite.
I am not holding onto his teen years at all. I dont like his attitude NOW.
The things you are saying about Mark are way in the past.

Gutsier that Mark? Coming back from how many knee operations? Now that is guts.

How can I not love his passion for his country.
Can you please show me examples of this passion???

He can gee himself up sure... but he acts like a **** sometimes ...

Funny thing is I dont like Agassi either.

But you can't say I am going by his teen years, simply because I wasn't old enough then (and dare I say it, you weren't either).

TAKE A LOOK AT SOME DAVIS CUP MATCHES AND ALSO GRAND SLAMS. HEWITT IS NEVER SAY DIE. YOU WOULDNT MIND GOING TO WAR WITH HIM. HIS PASSION FOR HIS COUNTRY IS THERE FOR ALL TO SEE, MORE SELECTIVE BLINDNESS FROM YOURSELF.
HE DOESNT ACT LIKE A ****. HE IS A PASSIONATE PLAYER. HEWITT IS FAR GUTSIER THAN PHILIPOUSSIS. KNOWING HEWITT, HE WOULD ATTEMPT COMEBACKS JUST LIKE PHILIPOUSIS, AND I BET WOULD GIVE IT AN EVEN BETTER GO TOO ! FACE IT, HEWITT IS THE BETTER PLAYER. HE HAS TO FIGHT MORE AND DOESNT HAVE A BIG SERVE TO HELP HIM.

Exactly and he never winges or moans or carrys on in between points unlike Mr Hewitt who if things are not going his way as was the case yesterday at some stages he will carry on like a pork chop

I typed in caps because I was replying to different paragraphs, therefore it distinguised what The Mase wrote and what I wrote.

everybody is different in their court demeanour. As long as it isnt over the top then I dont see a problem with it, and it wasnt over the top yesterday. If you want to have a go at someone for on court antics take a look at Mr Safin who is constantly breaking racquets. I have never seen Hewitt break a racquet.

Ever heard of the "Quote" button? Writing in caps lock makes you look like an idiot. And childish too. Or why don't you put his writing in bold instead if pressing the quote button is too complicated for you?

Hardly the point. Roach was part of the Davis Cup team. Therefore he was the Australian Davis Cup coach. Considering there were two Australians playing, he shouldn't really have been in either camp.
Philippoussis made a big deal about it (and maybe shouldn't have), but that is past ...

I WILL WAIT UNTIL I SEE IT.

You will see it...

OF COURSE HE CAN BUT THAT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE IN THE MEDIA THAT MAYBE HE SHOULD BE GETTING ON WITH TENNIS INSTEAD OF THAT STUFF

Since when do you dictate a persons life?
I should say that Hewitt should stop going out with Kim because he should concentrate more on his tennis. Its each to their own mate.
Either way he has gotten rid of that stuff to 'get on with tennis' as I have already mentioned.
Bringing up the past again.

WELL WHY DID THE MELBOURNE TENNIS PUBLIC GET SO OUTRAGED. I REMEMBER SEEING IT ON THE NEWS. THE PROMOTER ALSO WAS FURIOUS.

Because. The media have always beaten up Philippoussis. And the public react to the media. And the 'promoter' may have gotten the wrong idea from the media too. But as far as I am concerned with Marks history of injuries, it was a very smart thing not to play in that final.

Davis Cup matches? Always puts in? How well has Hewitt done at the Davis Cup? Not very well, not great for a guy that puts his 100% in.

I really fail to see how Hewitt has more guts and determination that Philippoussis. You still haven't given me a valid reason to think otherwise.

He would give it even better? Geez you're grasping at straws now.

You really are a twit, Easty... you should learn to quit while you're ahead.

By raving on about Mark Phillippousis's actions at Kooyong several years ago, you've put yourself in the same ball park as the people that are abusing Lleyton for his past outbursts. If anyone's a hypocrite, it's you.

I'll be going for both Hewitt and Phillippousis this Open, and should they play each other, I'd probably go for Phillippousis because he is yet to win a Grand Slam.

It is ludicrous to say philipoussis is more motivated and determined than hewitt ! You dont reach number 1 without being motivated and determined.
Just because Hewitt has lost some davis cup matches does not mean he isnt putting 100% in. That is a stupid thing to say.
If Philipoussis plays davis cup whenever he is available I will have more respect for him, unlike Hewitt haters who will never have more respect for hewitt no matter how much he improves his behaviour and his attitude. That is the sad part of the whole thing.

Philipoussis has been injured so we havent had a chance to see if he has changed. I mean he was into his 20s and still carrying on whereas hewitt was a teen which is more understandable. The anti hewitt mob are clinging to things which happened years ago but these things have been rectified and they look stupid to be clinging onto them.
I will be going for Hewitt because I dont have much time for philipoussis, the u.s open tantrum comments about roche are hard to forget even though they did happen a while back, it was a real insult to an australian tennis legend when he was in the rafter camp, and it was not davis cup so the fact he was coach had nothing to do with it. But if he has changed I wont be as harsh, unlike the anti hewitt mob.

Not really ludicrous at all.
You dont come back from 4 knee operations without being motivated and determined!

You see. That is the EXACT point you are missing.
He missed 1998 when he was available (GRANTED). But since then, he has ONLY played in the matches he was available for. Whether that mean't he was getting over injury (which he was) or he was injured, or he didn't believe he was ready for it.
HE WASN'T AVAILABLE.

You talk about going into the past, and holding that against Hewitt, well that is exactly what you're doing against Mark.

Philippoussis will play Davis Cup when he is available, point is, that he hasn't been available.
I have respect for Philippoussis because he is a fighter, having to fight back from injury.

That isn't true. I have a lot more respect for Hewitt now than I once did. And I have respect for him as a tennis player, because he is a damn all round player (thats the reason he is one of the best, because he isnt great at anything specific, just very good over the board).
But I don't like him as a person. He comes across as arrogant.

If he plays for Australia, I will go for him, just like any other chum that plays for Australia (DAVIS CUP).

In the tournies though, he is representing himself, not his nation.

oh FFS, quit it with the bickering, Hewitt and Flip are no different to any football player, except they play a different sport.

Flip is like someone who wont play state of origin, and Hewitt is just another player who abuses the umpire, if it was footy there wouldnt be this much bickering so GET OVER IT!!

Show us the support!

Go Hewitt & Flip! :)
