Re: Dawkins damnit! I missed Blasphemy Day!

Dawkins it all! How the dawkins did we miss that? Personally I blame all you mother-dawkins. ;)

How did state imposed Godlessness go?

Not so well eh?

Odd that.
Instead of worshiping a god, they worship Kim Jung-il or Stalin or Lenin who claim to/tell the public that they possess magical powers, are divine and must be worshiped. Hardly much difference, other than the fact they actually exist.

Besides, it's hardly like state imposed religion has fared a whole lot better.

Yeah, Religion is the cause of most of the wars.

What amuses me most about atheists is there drive to convert people away from religion, they preach anti-religion the arrange special days for non-religion, the have spokespeople, leaders and groups, heck they even disagree on the basics… strange stuff

Religion is the easy target for “enlightened” it seems.

..but then it just goes downhill

It isn't about converting people away from religion. It is about reducing its negative impact upon society. Keeping it in perspective as an irrational and often damaging 'delusion'.

You can pose it how you want, the fact remains you try to amend people’s belief system to suit your own (or preach your belief system ;) ).

Some may call it brain washing however since you believe there is no other alternate to your views, you don’t see it that way.

Blind worship is the tool of control that lets leaders go to war, be it worship of the head of state or of the fabled creator of the universe.

blind belief of any sort could be considered a tool of control, I don't see you crusading against others.

This sounds like someone who is very preachy to me. Isn't that right Chief?

There are plenty of alternatives to my views.

I haven't been convinced of any specific alternative yet... if I had been convinced then they'd no longer be my views would they? There might be a God exactly as described in the Bible. There might be aliens that can visit us from across the universe.

But now you're getting back into atheism as a belief. It isn't. It is a lack of belief in the proposition that there is an all-powerful God.

The evidence doesn't stack up for an all-powerful God so why should anyone, anywhere believe what they read in a set of texts which have been changed and edited by leaders and would-be leaders down through thousands of years?

If this God decided to visit me and reveal verifiable information hitherto unknown to science, along with an un-fakeable miracle (like, stop the sun in its tracks) then I wouldn't need to believe. I'd know there was an intelligence separate to humans that had more knowledge and the power to stop the sun in its tracks. That might not even be God, just some super-powerful alien race pretending to be God.

So far, apparently the Abrahamic God is worried about the prosaic - mainly the keeping of slaves, care of livestock, going to war, what to eat and how to keep women down. He hasn't been the slightest bit worried about curing cancer or letting us know about cheap and inexhaustible sources of energy or how to harvest that energy.

Sounds an awful lot like a human pretending to be a God, doesn't it?

as I don't want you to think i'm avoiding you post i'll have to be brief (damn the food shopping)

I'm not argueing that Religion is right or wrong because honestly I couldn't care less what people chose to believe. But from my POV listening to the athiest who continually crap on and on about religion there belief struture whilst godless still remains a belief struture and they continue to push it onto others regardless just like anyone else with a belief struture be it the spagetti monster or a bona fide religion. So having a celebration day in honour of something mearly formalises that belief struture as stupid as that day maybe.

(how can you blashem if you don't believe in a god? seriously how ****ing stupid are these people?)

Question to Atheists...

Do you believe in the possibility that the Universe was created by a far superior intelligence???

Or do you believe that evolution is limited to something along the lines of man?

Can an agnostic answer? They can? Cheers, mate:thumbsu:

Righteo. I think that, while there may WELL be superior intelligences to humanity somewhere out there I don't think we were CREATED by them with a strict moral code to follow. I certainly don't think we have to praise, give thanks or tithe money and/or posessions to any such deity/group of deities lest our 'souls' fall into the Pit or get reincarnated as dung beetles or whatever.

I believe we are masters of our own corner of a godless universe.

I believe anything is possible. Some things may be impossible, though.

Things like a personal, interventionist 'God' are implausible.
