Going down...

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

That's right, the Eagles are going down!

The Dees are ready to go and are pumped up after last week's loss.......so, prepare to have your wings cut off as you spiral right into the depths of hell where the Demons will torment you for four straight quarters!!

:D :D

Every week an opposition supporter comes on here and claims the eagles are going to get hammered. So far we've won twice and lost by a point. What odds that we will prove you wrong too?

Bring on the Dees. Neitz thinks he's tough? He hasn't met Willow yet. Woewodin thinks he's class? Obviously he hasn't met Cousins. Jeff White........ You get my point ;)

CARN THE EAGLES!!

CARN THE EAGLES!!

I actually think you guys will give us a damn good run for our money.

I like the look of our backs against your forwards though. With Ellis coming back, Nicho beating Ottens, Tredrea and Thompson (all better than Wilson) and a few others coming back, I like our side.

But, you guys have been playing very well and I hope we are very careful come Saturday. Whoever does more with the ball between Cousins and Yze will be the deciding factor I reckon.

But, shaping up to be a good game!

If we beat you by 7 points last season with only KJ for a coach, god help you now that we've got Woosha ;)

I suggest you check the stats for goals kicked this season. So far this season (and i emphasise the present form part) Wilson is the best full forward in the league. Nicholson is probably strong enough to compare with Wilson in the body on body contests, but i'm wondering if he's fast enough to stay with Willow on the lead. Its going to be a close one, but I get the impression that Melbourne are going to have to win convincingly in the midfield to have a chance, because I don't think you can handle Phil Matera, Wilson and Williams in the forward line

I reckon it'll be a really good game - I'm looking forward to it.

The "better than" comment is meaningless, because Wilson is one of a kind. No one else plays AFL like he does - you can't compare him to Tredrea or the others.

We will have to play really well in the midfield to win though - better than we have in all three previous games.

Well, I am willing to bet Ottens or Tredrea is just as quick as Wilson. Nicho is deceptively quick and is some great form, as you may have read. In 3 weeks, he has had just 3 goals kicked on him. 2 from Ottens, 1 from Tredrea. Even you have to agree that is pretty damn good. But, Wilson is also in great form, so it shapes to be a good contest.

As for your other two, we do have Ellis (coming back), Bizzell, Walsh, Whelan, Brown (25 touches last week) to name a few that can easily win down back. Only the Hawks have kicked 100 pts against us, and to be honest, your forward line is the worst we have faced this year. I don't mean to be mean, but that is true. Williams shouldn't be any problem for a Biz or Ellis, and Matera will get Whelan or Walsh.

But, still should be a good game. We play well at Optus too.

Should be a very good test for our improving side.

I think we're a bit better in the 'talls' department.
Nicholson is underrated, but I still think Willow can destroy him if the midfield starts feeding him well.
Jako will moider Schwarz, Milli/Glass can handle Neitz and Collica is a good matchup for Brad Green.

But the Dee's do have a very good midfield.
Yze, Woewodin, Powell and Leoncelli are very quick and can kick goals.
Hopefully Rowan Jones can do another job on Yze.
Cuzz, Kerr, Wirra, Braun and Judd need to at least break even with the Demons midfield.

P.S. Congrats to Steven Armstrong on the Rising Star Nomination. I was hoping Gaspar would get it, but at least it was a WA boy.

So Buzz, I guess Wilson's performance v's Freo was adequately backed up by his game against Collingwood, which in turn was adequately backed up by the game against the Bulldogs, for you to now rate him then.... ;)

Oh, did I mention Wilson being the AFL leading goalkicker at present..... ;) :p

Apparently Willow was a 100m runner before he became an AFL player. Doubt Ottens and Tredrea are faster than him.

Ohh, I suggest you don't play Nicholson on Willow, or else he won't be playing in rd5. (how many players has Willow KOed this year?)

Against the bulldogs, Hunter was playing a good 5-10 metres in front of Wilson and couldnt block/keep up with his lead

Wilsons speed cant be underestimated, you have to see him play to believe it

on the rising star, what kind of game did Armstrong have? anybody? Cause Gaspar was (for a potential nominee, not a senior player) damm good. Playing the hardest position on the ground at CHF and to have such an effect on the game. Very very unlucky not to be nominated, 16 touches, five marks and two goals ....... I know stats are not everything, but can someone post Armstrong's....

Tuckey was finally listed in the injuries today, a week late with a "knee". I am fan of either him or Siera being brought in to play the backup ruck/CHF this week. I don't think Cox will be suited, better to have the option of the player who can also drop forward. Also, I don't think i have been giving Gardiner enough credit for his part in our good form. So here is some props to Gardy, although I think some of his actual tap ruckwork isn't brilliant, his efforts across the ground, especially the distance he covers at half-forward have been first class. Even his disposal has been getting better, still waiting for that chip pass though!!

lastly, is it possible that between T-Will, Fido and Williams we may have found a three pronged attack much the same as the old firm of Sumich, Heady and Langdon?? 15, 8 and 6 is it so far?? I know Williams has at least two bags of three... We are scoring quite well this year, very un-characteristicly!!

rant over

thegur

p.s yes I know they are not as good as those three players.

Armstrong has had 3 excellent games, and could have gotten the Rising star nomination in any one of them.
As for stats this week he had:
12 kicks, 3 handballs, 15 possessions, 2 marks, 2 tackles, 2 frees for and 1 goal.
His game was excellent, breaking free of Richmond tackles, forcing interceptions and making few errors. He played up forward, while pushing as far up the ground as defensive 50, he definately deserved the nomination.

Having seen both guys play this week I would say Armstrong deserved it. In fact Armstrong has been bloody good for the Dees the last 3 weeks, I remember watching the Richmond game and thinking what a find he was so low in the draft and maybe the experts were right last year when they said the talent pool was so deep. Armstrong would have been in contention for the first 2 weeks as well but Medhurst stole the show in Round 1 and Judd in Round 2, it was only a matter of time before he got the award. If Gaspar can put in a repeat performance this week against the Dees im sure he'll nab it.

Just a shame he won't! :D ;)

Is Gaspar eligible, given that this is his second season?? I have to admit i really don't have the faintest idea about the norwich, but don't you have to be an out and out rookie?

I think you have to be Under 21, and played less than 50 games to be elegible. But that may be wrong.

Did you miss the kid playing his second game on Saturday night?

He picked up 18 possessions and knocked off one of the best players in the comp, Brent Harvey.

Obviously the AFL missed the match as well.

Can anyone back that up?? Sounds sort of wierd to me, because if that is the case, Daniel Kerr is still eligible. Also, is Medhurst under 21?

Its under 21 (at the start of the season) and having played under 20 games.

Should be a good game, looking forward to the Nicholson/Wilson matchup. Nicho has only had 3 goals kicked on him in three games, that is good form. On the other hand though, Wilson is leading the goal kicking with 15 goals. Both in great form and will be a tough contest. IMO though Nicho wont be able to keep up with Wilson and Willow should kick 4 or 5.

Cousins must step up, he has been good so far this year and is in the top 15 possession winners on the season thus far but he hasnt been his usual self. Is yet to have a 30+ game which is usually the norm for him. Once he gets into gear the Eagles will be even better! If he steps up, Jones does a job on Yze and Kerr, Wirr, Judd, Fletch etc get enough of it in the midfield i think we will win.

Our forwards have been rampant this season so far with Wilson, Fido, Williams, Embly, and now Gaspar getting in on the act. Glass and Jako are in fantastic form and McIntosh should be back.

Eagles by 24 points.

I like going down.....*winks*

This is going to be good. I really hope we can get up and win. I feel confident on this game and think we have the talent to cover most players.

I love games against Melbourne, my nephew is a Dees supporter and is flying back this week to watch the game. He and i always have had a good rivalry over the years.....So I hope we win so I can rub it in.....hehehe

When he was younger, I was looking after him and he was a little naughty that day, so I made him sit in a chair and watch the 1990 1st semi final as punishment...:D

Agreed- Willow has been in great form, but so has Nicholson- this is one of those great 'how good are you, really?' matchups which are enormous fun to watch. Another key matchup will be Gardy on White- similar sorts of players, both in good form of late. Gardiner was excellent against Darcy last week, and will have another big challenge this week.

I think the Dees are favourites to win.

We played in high heat and humidity on Sunday with players shedding up to 5kg in fluid loss. We have a 4 hour plane journey that will also take it's toll. The Dees have had a full week rest, no travel. If we get up against that backdrop then we will have been exceptional.
