Anyone done it? Am seriously considering it. 10-20 acres. Bush. Solar/wind power. Rain tanks. No phone lines.

I'd have to leave to go out on the road for work potentially. But would look to see if I could have untraceable satellite / internet. Not even sure it exists. I'd hunt, fish. Meditate.what the hell would you do all day
How did you do it? How far did you take it?I had to go off the grid during the 90s. Keep a low profile.
Keep in mind it was easier in the 90's than it is in the 00's and 10's to do such a thing in your native western country. How did you do it? How far did you take it?
Illuminati and Freemasons.Who/what are you hiding from?
Illuminati and Freemasons.
Your never off grid
Batterys need replacing so do panels eventually
Its cheaper to be on grid if you are near the wires.
I have friends who are 100% solar water and compost toilet
Im connected but am solar hot water 100%, solar power 50%,tank water 100%
Assuming OP is from Melbourne.
I went camping in Forrest* down in the Otways not too far from Apollo Bay. There is some awesome places to go off grid around there, although it would be bitterly cold in the winter. If you're internet addiction needs feeding, for some reason there was 3G reception pretty much everywhere we hiked as well.
I could see myself going off-grid for everything but would need some form of internet, even though I'm sure in the eyes of the "off grid community" that's basically sacrilegious. But if I was being true to myself the chances of my actually going through with going off grid - minimal. I need too much stimulation.
I think I'd be more of a chance to go psuedo off grid. Have a house in the city but was completely solar powered, rain tanks provided for my water and grow my own vegetables and fruit. The only connection would be phone for internet and (unfortunately) I'm not sure I can completely forego the convenience of super markets. I don't know about Oz but I was always read about some US states where it is illegal not to be hooked up to the cities electricity supply. Not sure how legit those reports are though.
*Not a forrest, a place called Forrest, although it was also basically a forrest so it's appropriately named.... https://goo.gl/maps/4R6ytbuok1M2
In SA you don't even have to be hooked up to be sent a bill and legally required to pay it. The argument is they provide the service, whether you want it or not. That then means you pay the piper. You can put the property in the name of a company and pre-pay the bill each year.I don't know about Oz but I was always read about some US states where it is illegal not to be hooked up to the cities electricity supply.
