$50 is pretty steep for no seat, ain't it?

I'll be getting in for free, but for the general public, that's a disgrace.

Second rate field in a usually great race, poor support races.

When will the MVRC learn?

Not anymore If that's what It costs to get in! I'd have to choose between drinking and betting, I can do both at the local.

Hmmm....

Wait in long queue to put bets on.
Wait in long queue to buy beer.
Wait in long queue to take slash.

Charged $50 for the privilege.

When will the MVRC learn?

What do you mean? put the price up some more? If people are stupid enough to pay it they might as well cash in. Whatever the price, *stupid* people will still attend.

Hmmm...

Watch Australia's premier race in the company of thousands of other cheering fans.
Watch Australia's greatest racehorse (Lonhro) win his first of three Cox Plate's.
Have a great afternoon out and make of it what you will.

You're right, that is a privilege.

Free entry for you evertonfc???

Yeah I agree with what you say, and it was $40 last year and has gone up to $50.

It is still the dearest race meeting of the spring carnival - more than the best quality race program, Derby Day, at Flemington.

The problem with racing is that once you pay $50 to get in, most people incur other expenses. A bad day on the punt, mixed with eating/drinking during a day which is spread from 11.10am to 5.15pm makes it a very costly race day. Do you want to start the day $50 down before you've even had a bet or a drink?

Racing administrators don't understand and the promotion of racing has focused so much on fashion and a party that the spring carnival is nothing more than a pain in the a**e for people who like a bet and enjoy the racing at other times of the year.

Moonee Valley is unique as it is so small and 40,000 crowd fills it up, plus they only get one day of racing over the carnival when the MRC gets 4 and the VRC gets 4 - no doubt these are two reasons why they charge $50 to get in.

The MVRC will never learn evertonfc - they now charge $15 for people to get into 7 race night meetings and I even think that's a bit steep.

It's only once a year

If you aren't willing to pay, plenty of other people will.

What exactly does the MVRC have to learn? They know perfectly well Moonee Valley will be filled to capacity as it is every year. You probably should brush up a bit on your economics. ;)

Of course others will pay.

The MVRC needs to realise that you can't just keep taking advantage of the punters. They will turn up no matter what the price.

Would you say, Sainter, that the AFL Grand Final price should be $1000 because you know it will be at least 2/3 full?

That makes economic sense for the AFL and MCC, but morally, it is plainly wrong.

$50 is far too excessive in my opinion.

Yes,

But I've paid every year from Saintly in 1996. I suppose 10-15% of people, like me, won't be paying, but it doesn't mean we feel the others should be ripped off.

I'm complaining on behalf of the man on the street.

He should be emptying his wallet at the tote, not the turnstiles.

If lowering the prices was to make it so much more accessible for the common man on the street, what is always a capacity crowd at the current expensive prices would only result in thousands of people getting locked out.

Spare me the Rove McManus reply next time.

The crowd was way down today on what it was two years ago when I went for the Saintly-Northerly hyped up race.

It was a good size crowd in terms of being able to move easily and being able to get a bet on though. If you want to get technical with the economics like sainter is, the Valley probably got a pretty good 'best fit' there today. $35 or $40 entry would've made the place too crowded, but at $50 the right crowd turned up for the amount of space and facilities available.

The MVRC even made the racebooks $5 and a few people I saw there today were surprised by the cost. Maybe they could cut back on some of the pages next time - it was like carrying a brick with all that glossy paper and colour crap in it.

Yes, I'm here. My bad. He's definitely a disappointment is Lonhro. Will go into stud next year, finishing a very unfulfilled career.

Probably not unfulfilled. He was just never as good as the Sydney media made him out to be.

I'm going to Derby Day this year.

Went to Oakes Day last year and had a fantastic time, but I couldn't get the time off work this year

I agree. Most overrated horse in living memory, and Mal Johnson said something about best since the king? Even Beadman got caught up in the hype, and he rides the freakin things! Just goes to show, you don't have to be smart to get into these positions.
