I do in the summer or on certain holes if the sun is low or high depending on the time of day.Hi guys, 18 handicapper here, play regularly and just an average golfer. I've noticed something recently my golf suffers Saturday mornings when the sun is still low in the sky. I think I'm closing my eyes and stuffing my usual consistent driving off the tee. I'm channeling Robert Allenby, does anyone where sunglasses around here whilst playing?
Same as chef - always have a pair in the bag, and will wear when sunny. Rob went through a lot of sunglasses over his career, but even more caddies.Hi guys, 18 handicapper here, play regularly and just an average golfer. I wear the light shaded Oakley Flax 2.0 sunnies every time I play. Back in 2012 I started doing it. It took me 12 months to get used to it but now I don’t know any other way.Hi guys, 18 handicapper here, play regularly and just an average golfer. 1&2 is a rather nasty finishFound something I think on the last 2 drives in my round yesterday (index 1 and 2). I was standing over my ball in my normal posture, about to pull the trigger and it occurred to me that my shoulders may have been a bit open relative to my feet, hips etc. So I moved my left shoulder towards the ball a few inches. I proceeded to hit 2 of the longest, straightest shots I can remember hitting with towering height which is soo unusual for me. Fantastic hitting 8 irons in, instead of around 5 irons. Walked off with 2 pars after missing birdie putts. Something I haven't gone close to in my last 20 rounds there.
18 has an island green about 360m...3 bunkers on it (the 1 behind to save you when going long...but you probably will have a downhill lie....hitting back to a severely sloping green towards water). Large sloping false front into the pond. You hit towards the South West...prevailing winds. Nasty if you don't hit a good drive.1&2 is a rather nasty finish

On technique I’m working heavily on developing my driver swing. For right handers- left foot position?
background: I was born with a club foot due to cerebral palsy. Extremely lucky that’s my only issue given how impaired others with CP can be. I had massive corrective surgery about 12 years ago when I had stopped growing so I’m better off than what it was but essentially my left Achilles doesn’t have a lot of length which naturally pulls my heel up.
In the process of my back swing the heel comes up a lot. As long as I keep my body reasonably straight up and avoid swaying to my right leg should this be ok?
early on I’d been just half swinging my driver just to keep more of a balance, I’m fairly solid through the upper body so distance wasn’t awful (low trajectory and was still going 150-200m at the range) but technically I’d rather develop something properly
Matey, get a lesson asap. Reading and YouTube are fun, but at least half the time, YouTube swing fixes are the opposite of what half the population should be doing.Going back to this. Wasn’t financially in the right place to commit to pro lessons. As a result I never really improved and dropped off the golf because I was just not seeing results. I just couldn’t negate the imbalance and my left foot not anchoring.
I’ve gone back left handed in cricket and now I’ve committed to doing the same with golf. Not confident enough to play a round yet, just range and sim work for now. Driver will take some work but irons are actually not feeling too foreign. Main thing is I can balance through the shot.
I was doing a lot of running when I was fully into golf before, now I’m doing a good mix of strength and cardio so my body outside the left ankle is in a good place. This should help with distance given I’m now compromising power by the hand change.
just need to save up some coin for pro lessons. Doing a lot of reading and YouTube watching.

Especially if you have a swing that isn’t run of the mill
Amazing - gutsy stuff. All the best with the change. Keep us posted with how it goes.Going back to this. Wasn’t financially in the right place to commit to pro lessons. On the topic of lessons, just heard a golf pro discuss getting lessons himself and then working through a swing change. Made the various points that it isn't the lesson that improves your golf, it's the work you do afterwards. And with any swing change, if you are doing it right, your swing speed will almost certainly drop as you try to find the new position. There will be plenty of inconsistencies in your shots as you try to make the change(s).Thanks - sure will.
How much practice do you think you'll be doing?I’m more than happy to get worse if it means getting better.

In short, if we want to make a swing change, we need to accept we will get worse to get better.
I’d say your lesson(and most others) make an improvement to your setup or efficiency of strike - which should see an immediate improvement- but a true swing change(in terms of path/position) takes ages to drill in and become your actual swing. That’s what the pro was talking about.Good discussion topic.
I agree 100% with the first bit. It really is 90% the pupil and 10% the coach when it comes to golfing improvement.
Not sure re the second bit though. I seem to always pick up swing speed during/after a lesson. My swing path is invariably better and I compress the ball far more. And the Trackman numbers in the lesson support this.
Then I gradually lose the speed gains three months post and I book in for another lesson.
