So he did his job?

The one he was paid over half a million dollars a year to do?
Maybe this year it was a way he could have involvement while getting paid handsomely and not playing but he has been doing it for a lot longer than that.

That would be part of being a senior player EVERY year.

It'd also be an expectation as part of the leadership group.

It depends what message he is attempting to send by not attending. Is it an attack on his teammates, or an attack on the club?

I find it hard to believe Talia is sitting there deliberately not attending the BnF so he can collectively tell all his teammates to fu** off.
I'm sure it's not an attack on his teammates but not attending says to everybody that Daniel Talia cares more about sticking it up the club than supporting his teammates. In light of this his comments about our poor club culture sort of ring hollow to me.

Yep, by all means be pissed off with the Club and the people who have made the decision. But, to ditch his teammates and not celebrate the year/s together then that stinks a bit for me and I thought he was better than that.

Especially since the Club would be keen to give him the send off he deserves.

Bury the hatchet for one night and show some class Daniel.

Fair enough.

I'll be interested to see whether he attends our equivalent of Mad Monday

Exactly and part of that salary would be the expectation to mentor and teach younger teammates.

I’m sure he did, but its certainly not a contractual expectation

as Brett Favre famously once said “not my job to mentor Aaron Rodgers”

players mentor others because they want to, and it’s the right thing to do. It’s not something they can be forced to do (nor does it need to be thankfully)

It's obviously not an attack on his fellow players, clearly it's list management/coaching he'd be pissed with. Weird that he'd go out if his way to isolate senior players as those he's looking forward to having a catch up drink with. It's nice to get an honest insight though.

Not looking for excuses for Daniel. but SA requires quarantine for anyone from Vic. So what I took from Daniels statement was he was heading to Vic to negotiate with clubs and medicals and won't be able to come back and forth while quarantine measures are in place. Plus isn't the Crows club champion around October? So I'm not sure it's fair to expect him to quarantine for a B and F

Nope he very clearly said he feels he needs to move on from the club as his intention to not attend the b and f...he is disappointed but come on Daniel, it’s one night, attend or you will regret it later in life, drink a bloody soda, he said also he didn’t want to attend because he didn’t want to be in a drinking environment.

specifically which words led you to conclude that elaborate story?

Unlike some I can read between the lines and not take every statement as literal. I just don't think he worded his statement on getting fit well. It's not an elaborate story as he is 100% required to quarantine coming back from Victoria so if he heads over he can't come back easily. Don't get your panties twisted. He needs to find his fitness. It's sad but in a way I don't mind him not going. I want him to be able to find another club. He is a professional so let him go. We shouldn't be bitter since our club delisted him.

It's his choice and whenever I have left a job I have tried to go quietly but also respectfully although always on my terms. Not the same but I kind of get it.

Listening to the radio I don't get why people are so worked up over him being cut. No one is saying we are not a better team with Talia in it but it's not the future.

Also I have heard him say a number of times how good a condition he is in. I don't doubt that but running and gym work is so different to a full season of AFL training and matches.

I have loved Talia as a player but maybe with this kind of attitude he's not the leader we need..

Nicks has made it very clear that he's trying to develop a culture where players want to better themselves and the guys around them. It was one of the first things he said when he got to the club.

This is the type of "Entitled " behaviour that has crept into our club with our senior players, and the reason why Nicks is building a priortise other culture

The problem with this sort of entitlement is it's built over generations of players. The younger generation has to wait, pay their dues, pray for an injury to the older players before they're even a chance of getting picked, then once they're the senior players, heck, it's only fair that the new generation has to wait their turn until I'm injured, then move aside once I'm fit. And so on.

There's no competition for spots, there are our 22 that we we're picking every week regardless of form, and temporary backups. We had AFL players, and SANFL players, and both knew who they were.

And yes, in a perfect world your best 22 is your best 22. But when we were living by the continuity sword, we also died by it. Players need rests. Replacement players need experience to be worth anything.

Nicks has a long road ahead of him, and while he's certainly given a lot of youth a chance, he's also displayed a lot of tendencies to just defer to experience. If nothing else the spots freeing up next year could inspire less entitlement.

Bit of a leap between reading between the lines and what you manufactured out of sheer nothingness.

Not trying to pile in on Talia but I found this comment interesting last week. I would of hoped he had started doing this by now.

"DANIEL TALIA | I got mentored by Ben Rutten when I first came into the club and he gave me the respect. I was going to repay the favour and do the same with younger players now."

To Talia it’s all a bit too raw at the moment, I think. Imagine being told by the club you love that you’re not needed anymore. Unlike Lynch and Mackay, Talia has the added misery of being very unsure of his durability, so I’d imagine having doubt internally and externally would be frustrating, and distressing.
He doesn’t want to spend the off-season in our club rooms, or in SA, trying to get fit. He doesn’t want to hit the piss at our B&F. He wants to cut the cord now and focus on getting his fitness back. Sure, it has a bit of bitterness to it, but he sounds determined to get his career back on track, and all the best to him

On another note, it shows how bad our list/salary cap management was from 2016 onwards that some of our highest paid players are either being delisted or actively pushed out for fk all compensation. Not to mention those being paid to play for other clubs.
