After Goodes' most recent attempt to tuck in the elbow and take off a head with his hip, I was pleased to see Jolly, Kirk and Bolton (J) all having a crack at him. I'm wondering if the whole "Leadership group" / "Bloods code" thing is starting to come unravelled a bit when Goodes and Hall are struggling with it. Maybe they need to do a ropes course. I'm not sure that having the boss sit on the bench for the game is having the right effect on the unity of the playing group either (although it serves the medium-term plan of Roos leaving the role altogether).

I hope they manage to get it back together in the next few weeks.

Agreed. It was frustrating to see Goodes at it again. There is seriously something going on behind closed doors at the club. 3 suspensions so far and possibly a 4th (Amon) coming up.

I don't understand this. Two players were going for the ball. Ellis (I think) got it, so Goodes pulled out.

That's EXACTLY what he should have done.

goodes surely cannot be in any trouble
he clearly pulled away from any contact, and gestured as such immediately on standing up straight
anyone suggesting otherwise is just mischief-making

buchanan, on the other hand ...

Despite his previous record, he should be given a bit of credit for getting out of the other guys face. So it shows that he takes these suspensions seriously and he knows that it makes an impact onto the teams end result.

He was grabbed by Jolly and started explaining himself to his teammates. They aren't happy with his bad habit and they've called him on it.

yeah, i saw that
but immediately after he'd stood, having gone over the top of whoever the hawk was, he looked at the umpire and said something, as if he'd been responding to the ump saying something to him
i think he was insisting that he had avoided the contact

all true, and he definitely did pull out of what would have been a disasterous hip and shoulder. I think the crucial point is his first instinctive reaction is to play the man not the ball. Instead of diving in head first fighting for the ball he's looking for contact.

Can someone please explain what Goodes did wrong?

Maybe if a few other players matched his intensity then some results might be different.

The over analysis that is increasing every week might ruin this game.

Goodes pulled out of at least 2 other attacks on the ball because he sensed that he was not going to be first to it. Is this how the game should be played.

Goodes now needs a protector.

He copped plenty off the ball yesterday to ensure he couldn’t follow up the play.

If were going to criticise him for his own aggressiveness we also need to ensure he is looked after from others aware he is so scrutinised he wont be able to protect himself. Bevan will be perfect for this job.

yeah he was being shoved high/late hits/knocks, to put him off his run at the ball, after it had moved on from him.

The umpire apparently did say smething to him abut being careful something along the lines of you were close so be careful adam. I did hear it mentioned in the commentary

He does have to learn the rapidly changing individually tailored netball code:mad:

BUT 194cm 98kg midfielder!!!!!

What I mean is it is not easy at that size to be quick and dexterous at the same time! Every BIG player will naturally brace themselves for a bump

Instead of us "eating our own" and criticising the POSITIVE was he showed that he was capable at the last minute to dive over and avoid!!!

Well done Adam.....:thumbsu:

Who knows for sure that the gang weren't echoing the above sentiment:confused:

Hawk supporter (not a troll) - hoping I'll get a real answer by going here, rather than the B13-esque main board.

I've only seen the second half so far (due to moving house, austar delayed three times before doing it sunday morning - took 4 hours so I missed the start).

It seemed virtually ever contest he was in, he was looking to inflict physical damage on his opponent - whilst 99% were 'fair' they were borderline - much in the way Brown/Osborne/Hodge attack the ball and player.

An absolute beauty in a contested situation, Sewell had the ball, instantly tackled to ground by ??, lying on back. Goodes jumped in, grabbed ball and tried to wrestle it free - coincidentally slamming both elbows into Sewell's head multiple times. Great stuff (dirty, but great), he's playing the ball, and contact was incidental.

I've never noticed this much from him before (honestly not taking a lot of notice though) - reading this thread it sounds like I may be on the right track...

Does he have an issue with physical contact? All his incidents seem to be 'opportunistic' - but he's also one who recently appears to consistently play the man not the ball when he is presented the choice.

(Unlike other posters, not questioning his courage per se, more his decision making).

PS: We tend to 'take out' the man releasing the ball as a whole-team tactic. Stops the 1-2s, and many "top" players (high possies) tend to do the "give and go" to get into space...this tactic stops them.

So you admit your team takes out players illegally after they get rid of the ball and then come on here and accuse Goodes of playing the man. This is getting funnier by the minute.

What did they say?

Jolly held his arm and said "Beauty mate! Good dodge, keep it up." Then Goodesy excitedly pointed out his handiwork to Kirk and Bolton and they said "Top work, champ, we can't smile now but we'll have a beer later." :thumbsu:

Thanks mate. Great thread by the way. Keep up the good work.

Hawk supporter (not a troll) - .

started well

than became a load of BS. Goodes not focusing on winning the ball, seriously. Putting the elbows in multiple times, no one else at all ahs mentioned this elsewhere, it's also bollocks.

You were prepared to call Goodes opportunistic but were unable to acknowledge that Goodes was the target of much off the ball play in the 2nd half yesterday.

And Osborne was not borderline on his contact on Jude Bolton’s head off ball. I’ve rarely seen Jolly get fired up but he got pretty shirty about that one.

If you want to bury your head, feel free. The fact is that Goodes has an obvious bad habit and his team mates are cracking the shits with it.

well what did they say to him?. Thats all Im asking. You must know more because you started the thread, also bringing up that the bloods code is being unravelled. So please share. Cheers:thumbsu:
