I thought Adam Goodes played the game of his life in the 2003 Qualifying Final versus Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium, when Sydney shocked the Power.

But looking back at the stats, it didn't seem like a special day at all. Have I missed something here? I always remembered it to be one of the great individual performances of all time, but here are his stats.

18 disposals
3 marks
20 hitouts
0 goals

His 1st half was awesome.

I will always remembr that day for the rest of my life! Did i rub it into the port fans at the game and then at uni on the monday.

Goodes may not have had 30+ disposals but most of them were to the swans advantage. He had many great assists in the game. Het set up many goals.

The swans generally never have one outstanding player. Several players get around the 15-20 possesions a game...that's why we play so well as a team

He had a quiet 2nd half. Was outstanding in the 1st half which set the Swans up for their 40 point HT lead.

IMO Goodes' best ever individual performance was 2 weeks before that final, when he single-handedly kept the Swans in the game against Collingwood (28D, 20HO).

Another was late last year against Adelaide, again in a losing side (I believe he received 3 Votes in the Brownlow).

As for the Port final, Goodes setup our original lead (IIRC it got out to 7-8 goals), then battled as a lone hand in the ruck all day (Stephen Doyle was injured without getting a hand to the ball--what's new?). It was one of the great individual performances. I remember Barry Hall had to come up to the wing in the last quarter to take a couple of bounces because Goodes could barely stand up.

Ahh yes and the umpires robbed Goodes of the winning the Brownlow outright in that game. No votes at all, IIRC.

That's correct. Goodes touched the ball 48 times, was BOG by every newspaper and commentator, considered by Swans' fans to be the only one from our side actually trying--and gets no votes.

Buckley (17D) was tagged by Kirk (19D) and got one vote.
Which was totally bizarre, because both those players had almost record tackles for the night--of each other. Seriously they just wrestled all night and hardly had an effective disposal between them.

Sometimes its easier to believe that the umpires just pick Brownlow votes out of a hat.
