Goodwin under pressure.?

Define pressure in this scenario. Because its not of being sacked 5 games into the newly signed 3 year extension.
Thanks to Gary Pert. Looks like the club is about to be bent over by Collingwood again.

2019 is obviously a massive disappointment, but things can turn around. I think this might be a one step back year before taking two step forwards next year. Change some things up, maybe revamp the assistants and game style, bring in some fresh talent. They could use some damaging outside run the mids and flankers all seem to be the hard nosed contested type, without a classy finisher. Its a talented list, and Goodwin can still turn things around if he is willing to shake things up.

Goodwin might survive another year, but the rest of the coaches will likely be cleaned out.

How does a team go from top 4 to a game + % behind 16th placed Carlton with 4 games to go?

Has anyone else thought that perhaps last year was a fluke and that they have simply reverted to their normal form this year?
No because that didn't happen, trended upwards over prior 4 seasons...

It will end much later officially but his coaching career was killed 22/09/2018.
Absolute rubbish mate.

His career was killed because dog turd sides like St Kilda keep getting the better of him.

West Coast would’ve thrashed everyone on a warm 27 degree prelim final day at Optus Stadium.

They can’t run out a game, has been the same all year.

Whether this is due to tactics or poor pre seasons of basically everyone, I’m not sure.

Goodwin will be turfed out by Round 8 next year if they continue with what they have been dishing up.

Melbourne were early season favs and righty so.
But what the hell has happened to them?

They lost Jesse and T mac no pre season.

Who have they drafted any young kids coming though.?

May and Lever must of cost them abit.

Maybe you peaked?
You don't peak with one of the youngest lists in the comp.
Goodwin has no idea seems more reasonable, it would take an extraordinary effort to take a young top 4 side to bottom 2 within a year so kudos to him.

It feels like after Hardwick got his flag everyone wanted to stick with their coaches for at least 15 years, now everyone is seeing red because a couple of replacement coaches are doing well for a few games.

The one observation I have made ( only my opinion of course ), was the club looked back on last season in a bad way. The narrative was how “successful” 2018 was, clubs like the hawks or my club in the past see a prelim as nothing more than a missed opportunity. I sincerely do hope the Dees can end up winning one, but the mental baggage from last year’s prelim disaster has clearly lingered.

It's got to be a delicate balance being a coach. There's a certain point where players need to switch focus, the thing that separates a one season wonder coach from a good coach is just adaptability, Clarkson would have been a slightly better Ross Lyon if he hadn't woken up after 2011, 2012 or so and accepted his old innovations were past their used by date. But he had a flag under his belt, Kennett would have gotten his way and sacked him otherwise.
The guys that have their time and just genuinely get found out, I dunnoh there aren't too many Hinkleys in the AFL.

I posted a thread about 12 months ago calling for heat on Goodwins job. 12 months on and the cracks under his tutelage are becoming enormous, albeit for a short time last year where the side got on a roll.
He has what many think as a very talented list but his lack of any gameplan other than win the contested ball and bomb it forward (to a side with no small decent small forwards) is clearly showing.
How long until the footy world wakes up to his capabilities?

Mate I agree with you. I don't know who you have on your list that can play small forward or whether Goodwin even values them. For the amount of I50's though, the tean should be winning a lot more games.

Arrogant kids thought they could just turn up and make another prelim. They'll fix it and be strong again, its just a matter of whether they can turn it around this year or whether it will take a year to catch up.
You have summed it up perfectly, and the media got behind them and started roaring way. Until they got smacked back to reality

I said it at the start of the year and seen nothing to change my mind. IMHO Melbourne's list has been over-rated. I heard the comment again yesterday that they have the best list in the AFL, and that's just crap. I agree 17th is underachieving, but I just don't understand the huge expectations on the team this year.
