There were plenty of them in the Craiglee yesterday.

Have they changed your mind about your Cup doubles etc?

Here are a few of them that took my eye.

Helene Vitality - After causing a slight delay at the barriers he got his mind into gear and was making some nice ground at the end, down the outside. For his first run for close to 4 months it was a beauty.

Brew - The 2000 Melbourne Cup winner's run was very good too. He made nice ground along the fence and providing his tendon injury doesn't flare up again could be chance in the cup.

Rain Gauge - Honest as the day is long and his fifth placing showed that WFA or Handicaps he is never far away. With the George Hanlon expertise he looks a great tip.

Maguire - Was only a few lengths from the winner and like Rain Gauge was making up a lot of ground in the straight. Doubt whether he has the class to win a cup, but he's a deadset stayer.

Silver Baron - Was the pick of the runs. To run 3rd at WFA to a champion in Northerly was a huge run. Was making up a lot of ground on the leading pair and in another 100m could have finished a lot closer.

Some of the flops

Don Eduardo - Got a long way back and stayed there. I bet Damien regrets jumping off Northerly now. ;) Would want to improve greatly before I consider him to win any of the cups.

Tully Thunder - After her huge run in the Liston I was expecting a lot more, but she did sweet bugger all. Another with doubts surrounding her class in the big races.

What does everyone else think?

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
yes i saw and very nice run
now lets never speak of him again till after the cup

Very happy with Helene Vitality, obviously Tab Sportsbet are too.
51 to 26,luckily snapped up a couple more doubles Sat.morning.

Where is Sixty Seconds, the 1000/1 is only a big price if it gets to the Caulfield Cup.

As for the rest:

Brew-no thanks, you only get one birthday.

Rain Gauge-terrific again, the one I'll be saving on.

Maguire- see Brew

Silver Baron-almost went too good to be true, always doubt that SA winter form but it does look thrown in on this run.Still has to break the Hawkes Melb Cup hoodoo.

Don Eduardo- Not sure his mind is on the job, either that or that AJC Derby form is misleading, think it might be the former as Grey Song's effort was pretty good.Hard to know until we see Carnegie Express again.

Tully Thunder-may have been flattened by great Liston effort, the jury's out but best suited to Caulfield.

Elegant Fashion-awful!!! That form around Moon Dragon is terrible, may have been to the well once too often in first prep.
No wonder Republic Lass brained them in Sydney in the Autumn.

Universal Prince-terrific,have doubts about whether they'll head to Flemington after last year though.

Ah, but he's got good colours on him, this one. None of that cerise crap.

Yes, WFA program I think.

Tully Thunder

Anyone who topped up on Tully Thunder last Saturday should have a good hard look at themselves!

Second-Up! No Thankyou!

Forgive that run!

I wish I could own a horse like Le Zagaletta! Rarely far away! Be a good idea to keep following, horses that race handy and try their ass off like this horse are always value bets!

Couple of nice Mile to 2000m races for him on the horizon. Best suited a mile I think and if the heavens open during the spring............... Tomato Sauce Odds!!!!

The much-beloved Brew will apparently be retired (again) after pulling up sore after Saturday's run.

Thank God!!!!
Just a couple of years too late to undo the damage it did to the Great Race's credibility.

One horse which took my eye yesterday was Henderson Bay. He's the Sydney stayer who won the Sydney Cup this year. I know it's a poor excuse for a Group 1 race these days but he could change that, as his run yesterday was good. Like all deadset stayers the 1600 was too short but he was really warming up late and finishing nicely down the outside.

Surely the Geelong Cup would be his level.
If Tie The Knot couldn't do it, can't see Henderson Bay changing the fact that the last Sydney Cup winner to win at Flemington was Carbine.
Nice horse but I must say the Great Race is looking very strong at this stage.

News this morning that 2 more internationals are confirmed:

Jardine's Lookout & Daliapour,bringing the total to 10.
Gotta love this time of year

Seth.
