THE AFL match review panel has cleared Fremantle defender Antoni Grover of an incident in Sunday's NAB Cup clash with Richmond at Subiaco Oval.

Grover collected Richmond's Dean Polo in a marking contest, opening up a cut on the Tiger's face, during the Dockers three-point loss.

The contact was described as a legitimate spoil.

It means Grover will be free to play in Fremantle's next pre-season match against the loser of Friday night's clash between Carlton and North Melbourne.

The match will be played at Manuka Oval in Canberra.

Glad he's been cleared.... but is this another journo who doesn't know what he's on about? Aren't suspensions in the NAB cup only able to be served either in the NAB Cup if your club is still in it, or in the season proper if you get knocked out? Can't a player still play in the challenge series if he's suspended? My understanding is that if he got done, he would have been available to play all pre-season, but would have had to sit out the first game (or two) of the H&A...

Anyway - all good, he's clear! :)

I was trying to tell the one eyed tiger inlaws that it was an accident and a legitimate spoil, but since they are both junior football umps I was over ruled. I just forwarded them this article :D

Yeah I'm pretty sure NAB Cup matches can be used to serve a suspension, but not NAB regional challenge matches.

So if Maxwell gets a 4 match ban, he could serve anywhere from 1 to 3 matches in the season proper depending on how far Collingwood go.

The question I have been asking is regarding Solomon. At the moment Maxwell can serve his current ban during the NAB cup (as long as the pies stay in). Why wasnt solomon allowed to use last nights game as part of his suspension? Just curious, on how it works getting suspended during regular season and the pre-season.

Because Maxwell was cited for an incident during the NAB Cup and Solomon was suspended for a clash during the season proper.

I thought Grover was in trouble, looked a bit awkward in slow motion so good news. Agree with your point above, if he had got a week he would have missed round one.

It must be a belated Christmas miracle!

With the MRP's prior form against us I thought he was gone for sure. I'm so paranoid about them these days that I deliberately didn't mention it on here because I didn't want to draw any more attention to the incident than necessary.

Maybe they just didn't like CC and now they're going to find a new team to pick on.

Just saw the footage and I am surprised he didn't go for that...

  • Meaningless pre-season match - tick
  • Plays for Freo - tick
  • Accidental but clumsy attempt resulting in damage to opposition player - tick
  • Indigenous - tick

maybe he's just not brown enough and they missed that last bit - otherwise they would certainly have thrown the book at him...

Maybe it's a goodwill gesture by the MRP for no longer having Jeffrey and the Traitorous Dog:D on our list.

I was watching the game at a pub and the Tiger supporter next to me called Grover a dog and other things. I said that his hand actually hit the footy first. Even after the replay which showed i was right, the Tigers guy kept making a song and dance and said that he was no-where near the ball. funny to watch.

Impressive beard on the bloke too:thumbsu: The name Grover always reminded me of Sesame Street. Now more than ever Antoni is "your furry pal Grover"

no josh, no jeff...... no worries

the tribunal shits me..... maxwell even getting sighted is a joke, johnson coping four weeks for hansen getting tackled into his head is a joke, gehrig getting a week for a love tap is a joke... i thought having ex-players in to ajudicate was meant to help.......... the tribunal as well as demetriou with his new rules is the only thing i could ever hate about the greatest game in the world...:(:mad::mad::(
