Is the honeymoon over? 14 years in to the experiment.
Average home crowds this season 12,000.
Hogan, Whitfield, Greene, Kelly, Coniglio all 30.
AFLW side on the bottom .
Tassie coming in.
We all know the "membership" numbers are fake and pumped up by the cheap kayo offer
Publicly they will say everything is going great but privately the AFL would be worried.
No new draftees coming out of western Sydney while SEQ has become a footy factory
How do people really think the Giants are going out in western Sydney if we put the positive spin to the side?
Accor Stadium should be used during the Royal Easter Show and for finals matches

I don't have a superficial view on this.It is concerning that GWS has been really stable in performance and haven’t been a basket case and the support isn’t there. But the questions I think are important are:
1. How long does it take to build a club and a foothold. My view is for a new club it could take a generation or two. Think about how families grow and the kids support the team and so on. 15 years is nothing.
2. What is their value to the broadcast deal.
3. What are the residual benefits of having 2 teams in NSW.
I think the answer to all 3 will be in favour of GWS. Too many take a superficial view on these things.
assured that success is inevitable. It's not.NRL is designed for TVWhy is a 12k home crowd a bad thing? AFL fans have such a twisted view on acceptable crowd figures.
The NRL has 11 teams averaging 20k crowds or lower, and most of them have bloody NSW local derbies every week.
The A league only has 2 teams averaging more than 12k.
AFL fans need to get a grip and realize 12k home crowds is fine
I don't have a superficial view on this.
By the same token I could accuse you of simply regurgitating AFL PR and doctrine.
Its not as simple as just thinking everyone is going to be converted because we are the superior religion.
Now we all know missionaries succeeded in some areas and not in others.
The world isn't a monoculture.
There may be fundamental demographic and cultural reasons why western Sydney won't work.
Now I'm not saying one way or the other but I don't think it's right to beassured that success is inevitable. It's not.
Come see some livestock and then hit the footyThey just needa find a way to play a game during the show and then advertise it heavily with people going

I'm not sure.Do you think 15 years is enough to build a club?
When I go to the footy I see grandparents with their kids with their kids with their kids. It’s generations of support for the lions.
I'm not sure.
But what's your point?
I can go to Rome and see lots of Catholics.
Doesn't mean the catholic church is going to take over in Jakarta.
The cultural ingredients that gave rise to Fitzroy in the 19th century are very different to the cultural ingredients in western Sydney in the 21st century.
A lot of religious undertones Willy, I didn’t realise you were a man of the cloth
GWS rarely use Accor Stadium despite it being a stone's throw away from their normal home ground and 6x bigger than ENGIEThey just needa find a way to play a game during the show and then advertise it heavily with people going
You were always a fool in this regard. It's like giving someone a gift you knew they didn't want, and then wondering why they never use/wear it.
Standing room wasn’t sold out so no we wouldn’t have.GWS rarely use Accor Stadium despite it being a stone's throw away from their normal home ground and 6x bigger than ENGIE
Would've got at least 60K last week at Accor instead of just 20K
It's not just about development. It’s ok daddy AFL will look after their nepo baby with a big bag priority draft picks and other concessions once tassies had their fill.
There are no more important clubs in the AFL than their dearly beloved northern clubs and “development” of the game
GWS have nothing to worry about
No chance of.a 3rd side in NSW and a small chance they move the Giants to Canberra. They will be fine - along with Sydney and the Queenslanders they are the wealthiest clubs in the league with an endless slush fund of league money available when required.
....
but really though, the league is not giving up on the whole 2 local teams and a game every week in the Sydney market. If anything, there is more chance they create a 3rd team than go back down to 1.
But even if it's a slow burn , why do people assume guaranteed success?Swans averaged 24k in year 14. With a side that played off the for flag, already had a supporter base and had zero AFL competition in the state. Not to mention with TV deals the way they were back then if you wanted to watch footy you had to actually go in most cases...
People need to accept GWS is going to be a slow burn - they do need to get out of Canberra and focus on their market though

Excuse my ignorance, but how does the Giants Board work, go earned by the AFL, with no changes ever?Makes it hard with the inept board the AFL gave us that are untouchable.
Not being full time hurts as well.
What do we deem to be successful in terms of AFL clubs? But even if it's a slow burn , why do people assume guaranteed success?
Not every new business succeeds.
At what point do we enter Concorde territory?
And at what point do broadcasters get involved?
By the same token, do people truly believe the new Russian owner of Foxtel is going to be ok with the 9 teams based in Melbourne?
