With Scott Selwood signing, I was checking out Jimmy the Gent's Contract Thread and was pretty happy with what I saw, in that we've already secured a lot of talent.

The following players either come out of contract at the end of this season or have unknown contracts:

Strijk
Kerr
Glass
Rosa
Swift
Lycett
Wilson
Brennan
Butler
Embley
Nicoski
Stevenson
Neates
Smith
McGinnity
Hams
Sheppard
Weedon
Stevens
Lynch
Dalziell.

Obviously, we don't want to lose anyone, but which player do you see as being the biggest potential loss?

Strijk - gone cant get on the park
Wilson - talented but isn't fit enough
Daziell - can run and find the footy other's have gone past
Embley - retirement time
Maybe

Glass - retirement time

Smith, Stevens, Sheppard and Lycett would be the biggest names on that list. Maybe Swift as well. Brennan could also be a name by the end of the year but I don't see him going anywhere. The rest are either old, injury prone or just not that good and are replaceable. McGinnity might be the exception but we have done pretty well without him this year.

Royal Eagle provided a good list of players who would be in the gun. I would add Lewis Stevenson to that. If he can't get a game this year then giving him another contract would be taking the piss surely.

Lycett the biggest loss there. Our compensation we would get for him wouldn't be anywhere near close to adequate. Would also leave us with only 2 ruckman on our list and cox is pretty old. Rosa short term would hurt but our compo would probably be good for us long term. Most of the others are unlikely to be integral to our future success.

WC should persist with Wilson. He will make a handy BP at some stage in the future, IMO. Fitness issues aren't that hard to resolve. I see him as another Brett Jones, with less rebound ability, but with better disposal. He won't be a star, but will get the job done well enough.

I can see GWS giving Lynch a couple of years to go over. We will only give him 1yr contracts and he may get more elsewhere. He would be a nice fill in for a couple. at least he always presents.

Good news is we can only really lose one. As for delistings, im tippin' at least Strijk, Dalziell. If no retirements and no trades, maybe stevenson. Im also tippin Butler to go elsewhere. He may well kick nicely, but I cant see him fitting anywhere. To me he fights for same position as A Selwood and Waters.

Swift
Lycett
Wilson
Brennan
Sheppard
Stevens

Biggest name is Bolded for me.
The guys on that list I rate very highly and have high expectations from them. Overall though, the biggest loss for me would definately be Lycett. It's hard as hell to find someone that good overhead, with awesome athletic ability at that size. Even if he never reaches his peak, I would say Lycett will be a very very good ruckman in time to come (another 2-3 years of development).

Agree, I think Wilson will become a very good defender over the next 3 years. Hard at it who reads the game well, good overhead and good foot skills.

Okay, I'm very confused. Everyone who has posted thus far in this thread has either ignored Stevenson or considered him as one who should be delisted....What the?

I thought people considered him one with great potential given his size, pace, and his long accurate kick. Am I missing something here?

Aside from this, Lycett would be the biggest loss. Still holding out a touch of hope for Strijk and Swift, but not confident. Stevens may be trade bait if he plays a few good games...but if he starts tearing it up (again, I don't have high hopes here) we may all wish to keep him.

I feel big love for Wilson. Showed a shitload for a 2nd year defender this pre-season. Was rated highly for his draft year but I cant remember what it was that caused him to slide all the way through to PSD. Most were predicting 2nd round from memory?

Clearly has a decent size and speed about him. Another year or 2 in WAFL will have him as a great backup option for KPD.

Honestly, starting to become a big fan of our recruiters. Picked up some gems lately(bar Notte).

Wilson had OP which affected his game AND FITNESS. Only starting to get match fit again. Too small to be a KPD but will become a good defender.

Of all players mentioned Stevens, Swift, Smith and Stevenson are the only ones GWS would be interested in whom IMO would be interested into going to GWS. Hardly a catastrophe if any left.

Lycett is well aware of how WC regard him & is a sensible young man who realizes he isnt ready for AFL just yet.

I can't speak for others but I too have high hopes for Stevenson, but for one reason or another, he keeps getting overlooked. His last game was rd19 2010. The fact is, we've trimmed the majority of dead wood off our list over the past few years and from now on deserving players are going to miss out.

With Wilson listed as 186cm and 89kg, he's far too short to be a KPD, hence my call of a BP role.
He may be able to get away with being an undersized KPD in the WAFL, but that's unrealistic at AFL level, where he'd get monstered.

(Edit add: Bond 007 beat me to it.)

Somethings wrong there - 186 is 6"1' - he's taller than that. Scott Selwood & Sheppard are 186 & he's taller than those 2.

Wilson is 186cm according to the WCE bio of him.

Even if he has grown a few cm, he's still too short for a KPD.
