Whatever happened last night, ok innings by him, but the issue for me is:

Is he the number one Keeper/Batsmen in this country?

My answer is a clear NO

Great he made a 50, but we have a 34 year old in the team that isn't our best option, he is not our worst, but he is not our best, Paine and Wade are clearly better. So why Australia continue to play players because they are members of the "Boys" club, they will remain below the elite teams in world cricket.

If Haddin batted the way he did last night in every match this thread wouldn't exist. He showed that he is able to play a responsible innings while still attacking. He doesn't need to charge down the pitch at the bowlers.

I have been calling for his head but if that is what he will produce regularly, he may have a reprieve for now.

Are you kidding? He slashed at about 10 balls outside off and was just lucky he's in such bad form at the moment. Yes he made a 50 and yes we may have to sit through another 12 months of his crap, but that innings was probably the worst 50 I've seen in my 22 years.

I can't see the point of persevering with him when there are better, younger options, regardless of last nights innings. I also can't see much point in Ponting sticking around for much longer, but then you don't toss away one of the country's greatest ever batsmen lightly.

It will be interesting to see who wins the battle on this one. Mickey Arthur apparently doesn't rate Haddin and reckons Wade is clearly the better option, while Clarke wants to keep his underperforming buddy Haddin in the side, even though there's almost certainly a better alternative out there, who is in spanking good form.
If Clarke is just going to get his way on everything he wants we might as well just save our money and sack the rest and have him pick the side.

I think it's more the fact that him being named Vice Captain suggests he's going to be around for a lot longer than we'd like.
