Hammer Time!

I can't help but feel that Hammer is going to have a massive say in our fortunes this season.

Just get the feeling he is going to tear some teams apart and become another match winner for us, I hope I am right.

Interesting comments re his vision. It certainly could have been a contributing factor re. his marking. Sounds like he's understanding that Warnock/Kruezer is the likely ruck combo, and he needs to reinvent himself as a full-time KPF to get decent AFL game time.

OK, well consider a R1 forward line with Walker(190cm), Waite (194cm) and Hammer (202cm) as the big athletic talls, with Jeff and Eddie causing ground level havoc, and maybe Thornton as a 3rd defensive/lead-up tall, and an elite goal kicking mid like Gibbs rotating through the forward 50. Interesting. Lots of headaches for the opposition. Versatility as well, because all those talls can play elsewhere.

:)

Is McKay going to be a regular on SEN?

Think McKay was interviewed on this station last Tuesday.

Eyes open for Hampson
Blues football manager Andrew McKay said the club was hopeful that Hampson's improved eyesight would enable him to elevate his game.

"Hopefully it will help his marking ability and help his footy full stop," McKay told radio station 1116 SEN on Tuesday morning.

"It was more long distance stuff…he can see it once it gets closer, but obviously you need that judgement when it's coming from 55 metres away to be able to run up and get a leap at the ball and take a grab.

"So certainly it should help a bit, but I think he's been working on his technique and things as well, which probably will help a bit more."
Eyes open for Hampson

That does add up.

Sticks used to struggle with the glare from the MCG lights getting in his contacts at night games.

What's most interesting in the article, apart from a terrific cartoon, is that he says he is to be used as a key forward this year, pinch-hitting in the ruck.

I like it. Hammer at FF and Waite at CHF plus the Walks, Jeffy and Eddie up there, Gibbs hovering about...looks like a forward line to me.

Actually they refer to him as a "Third tall marking option", not a KPF (eg FF or CHF). Still he would be a NIGHTMARE to match up on, with his height and agility. Just needs to get to more contests/take more marks (and convert ofcause) and he could make a HUGE impact for the team.

Is it any wonder that other clubs hate us - one fluff piece after another in the Hun

Was wondering the same myself, has almost become daily.

Guess journalists find Princes Park easier to get to than most other grounds

Anyway, be interesting to see how Hammer goes this year, showed some very goods signs at times last year.

Guess with the eye job he'll now realise he's going out with Meaghan Gale

hahaha, great comic. Hopefully this makes a difference and improves his marking, the guy does everything right when it comes to getting in the right position and hands on the ball, it's a matter of hanging onto them consistantly.

It was funny last season at Docklands when he steamed out of the forward line and took a huge grab on someone's shoulders. It was one of the best marks of the year but Blues fans were pretty quiet because they couldn't believe it had happened.

If Hampson gets the eye-hand coordination thing happening this season, he'll be deadly. He's got an off the scale leap, has some serious height, and unmatched speed. If he can get it all together, he'll be an awesome forward.

:)

i think a few of us had figured out that it was during the day that he played some of his best footy. v bris at docklands the best example. so we should see some improvement, where it ends up we shall see.

Let's not forget he is extremely handsome.

He should be able to "blue steel" the opposition down. Then "Blue steel" the umpire. Then "blue steel" the crowd.

Huge grab just inside the forward 50 at full stretch over the top of Henderson and some brisbane clown, and then just didnt make the distance from outside 50 - but gun barrell straight as they say.

nice knee in the face there too. poor brizzy dude

And this was round 12, he was on a roll too with Warnock in the Ants and Kreuzer playing mostly forward. This was the week before he injured himself against the Swans, and the week after he killed Port. He had a great 4 weeks in a row against Melbourne, Port, Brisbane and Sydney.

Oh and another excuse to post

he kicked 3 goals in a half in his comeback match for the Ants, and then 6.2 while rucking for most of the game in the next game (where he took 10 marks).

I'm skeptical about his development as a forward but you never know. Some players just get their improvement from nowhere and he may well be on that does just that.

We can only hope, because he if manages to tap into that marking ability then he can make a huge difference to our forward structure.

He is a decent kick at goal technically, he just needs to be confident in his action and kick through the ball.

"The 201cm giant said the club wanted him to focus on a key forward role..."

"Ratten said he hoped Hampson would lock down a key role deep in the forward line..."

Yes the article opens with a comment about him being a "third tall", but it makes no sense in the context of the guts of the piece. No surprises there, its the HUN.:D

If all the players that have got a HUN tickle up so far this year, perform to the hype, we will go undefeated!
