AFLW Hannah Ewings Wins AFLW Rising Star Award

Lauren Young is who we have to draft with our first pick next year. I assume like this year we can draft players who are 17 but turn 18 before 31st of December.

She turns 18 in mid September 2023. She won the equivalent of the Magarey medal in the SANFLW before her 16th birthday last year, made the covid restricted U/19 carnival All Oz team before her 16th birthday, but ruptured her ACL in November last year and has had the last 12 months off rehabbing.

If she nominates the SA draft, we will have the first pick of SA talent. Not sure if we will have extra picks over the crows like this year's draft.

I heard the name Lauren Young last year but of course she was too young for this year's draft. If it works like the AFL Draft we could get at least one priority pick as well as the first pick from the SA talent pool but as we know nothing is consistent with the AFL.

The players once again show they probably don't watch much footy. Hannah didn't even make top 5 in the AFLPA 1st year player award.

And she didn't even make the AFLPA / Snaffle best 22 U/22 team.

MVP Voting Process

MVP voting is a two-stage process, beginning with each player voting for the three teammates they consider to have been the most valuable this season. Each club’s votes are then tallied to form a nomination list, with 54 players across the 18 teams nominated for the award.

In the second round of voting, all players vote for their MVP on a 3, 2, 1 basis from the nominees of the 17 other clubs. The votes are tallied and the player with the highest score wins the honour of MVP. Players cannot vote for their own teammates in stage two of the process

A similar process is followed for Best First-Year Player and Most Courageous, with every captain automatically nominated for the Best Captain Award.

All AFLW players under the age of 21 on 31 December 2022 and who have not previously been nominated as a Rising Star qualify for consideration for the award.

The 22 under 22 team is difficult to make - you've got Conti and both Prespakis sisters (all top 10 players in the league) as locks so it's no shame not to make it as a mid.

Only one player per club is nominated for the AFLPA Best First Year Player award.

Ewings wasn't nominated by her teammates. That honour went to Dowrick.
