Lachie Hansen VS Nathan Brown (coll).
Both KPD from 2006 draft. Both highly rated by their supporters.

Who would you rather have?

What's the point in this?

You have already said you'd take Brown over him, easily.

Hansen though. 197cm, freakishly fit and most likely fittest at North, best hands at the club since Carey and good skills. Like Brown aswell, dont think he will be a dour defender at all. Has underrated speed and has good balls skills, very smart player too.

as a richmond supporter id like brown because we could do with a key defender like him although kelvin moore does a pretty good job

Hansen has started the year with a bang and is coming on in a big way. Brown was good last year and has been OK this year although some Collingwood fans are a bit critical and seem to think he is struggling.

I would have to go with Hansen. Just seems like he can do everything Brown can plus many more strings to his bow.

brown will be a fb and take the gorrillas while hansen will be a chb and take the more agile forwards its hard to compare the 2, ben reid is being groomed to be our chb and was taken at pick 8 in this draft in a few years time reid and hansen will be a better comparison

while having 3-4 goals kicked on him in 4 games.

None v Melbourne (Miller). None v Footscray (Hahn). One v Hawthorn where he took Roughead when Thomson was caught out. None v Essendon (Lucas and McPhee).

He has conceded one goal to a direct opponent. Hasn't played on any genuine guns yet though.

If he goes on the same path throughout the year, averaging say 19 disposals and 9 marks while stopping B grade players, what are his chances of AA?

He would be a fair chance. At his current form he'll concede, what, 9 goals this year? If he didn't get a spot based on that you would have to blame the fact that most could name about 5 North blokes, and most of them retired 5 years ago.

If he continues his form, why not?
Because he isn't in the best back 6, not close to it.

That's one of the more laughable things I have heard on bigfooty for quite a while.

Atleast you agree you were wrong about Brown being better, the kid has had about 836 goals kicked on him since debut.
There is every chance Brown will be a better negating defender, that's a very definite possibility and I'd be willing to back him to be so.

Hansen was always going to be a better offensive player.

Don't forget he had 5 goals kicked on him last week (that is Hansen).

Watched the game did we?

Obviously not.

Gibson played on Franklin

Thompson played on Roughead, not Hansen.

He gave a goal up with an over the shoulder on Roughead when Thompson was caught out, by my recononing, his only of the year.

Did I really just see Hansen's name thrown up for AA?

Holy crap.....

He's playing an almost identical role as Nathan Bock did last year.

Holding his opponents defensively, and hurting them the other way.

With very similar numbers.

If you havn't seen him play this year, and resort to snide remarks, then get the **** out of the thread, as honestly, hes 5 x the player he was this time last year.

He'd be leading our best and fairest.

As for Brown vs Hansen; Brown had a much better start to their respective careers, but on current form, Hansen has taken the next next up again from that.

I dont agree. If a CHB averages 18 disposals a game and 8 marks while only conceding a goal or less a game, he has every right to be in contention for an AA spot. Especially when there are **** all CHB's in the comp. I never said he will, I said if he continues with his form. You obviously havent watched Hansen this year if it's THAT laughable.

This thread is about who would you rather have, you're really suggesting you'd rather Brown? That is even more laughable.

Watched the game did we?

I did. Saw Hansen turned inside out.

If you label Hansen a CHB, then watch the Hawthorn CHF kick 5 goals, it defeats the premise that he is actually a CHB.

He'd be leading our best and fairest.

The way North are playing, Borris the Chicken would be leading the B&F.

I'm suggesting Brown could very well be the better negating player.

What's laughable is that you seem to believe this poll is done and dusted and Hansen is a shoo in for the better defender.

Talls take time to develop, if anyone realistically expected Brown to continue to beat elite forwards from the get go like he did at first, they were being unrealistic. But he has proven he can do so and has the tools to do so. Consistency will come, the ability is there.

How can you just shut off the possibility of him being a better defender when he has proven he can keep the likes of Richo, Brown and Pavlich quiet.

I believe he kept Aaron Edwards scoreless against you lot last year as well.

You specified Hansen was keeping B grade forwards quiet. Brown has spent much of his time on A grade forwards. Of course he'll concede goals, he's learning the game. He has played on the likes of Franklin and Fevola, has Hansen?

Brown will be the better for it long term. Either one could be the better defender.

Only you seem to be thinking the answer to this poll is fact, not opinion.

Care to back up your comments? With something...anything?

Honestly, theres not that many good CHB's he's competing with anyway!

You can't seriously class a Jarrad Waite or a Sam Gilbert as a CHB, they have been playing a lose HBF role all year.

Nathan Bock
Craig Bolton
Chaplin

???

Hes throwing up numbers around the mark anyway, hes been exceptional in defence.

And is averaging around 19 touches/9 marks a game.
