It was Daisy at the start of the season, then mid year it was sharrod....
Now I think Brent macaffer has taken the spot of most improved???

Your thoughts??

Its a great position to be in when we have constant players improving significantly throughout the whole season :)

It's clearly between him, Leeroy and Wellers for out most improved this year.

MaCaffers' role in this team can't be over rated, he was great again last night, and I don't care what the stats say.

For 2 1/2 quarter, Johncock absolutely smashed us off half back, until the Caff went on to him, and stopped his effectiveness, which had a huge hand in us coming back and winning.

The Geelong game was the "turning point" in his career, when he slaughtered a 2 time premiership player in Milburn.

The Caff is here to stay.:D

Reid, Wellers, Leroy and Macaffer in that order for me.

How can you guys not mention Daisy?

I agree with Caff, Wellers, Reid, Dawes and Leroy but you have to put Daisy on that list.

However I would say Daisy has been our most improved, there was so much expected of him and to be such a consistent, gamebreaking player he is now is credit to him.

Read first comment on this thread mate!! I mention Daisy!!

It's still Thomas IMO. He was fantastic last night once again.

1. Sharrod
2. Reid
3. Thomas
4. Macaffer
5. Dawes

We all knew Thomas was capable of his stature atm, but the other 4? Came from no-where. All could have been possible trade-bait at the end of last year (except maybe Dawes), now they are integril. Great story for the pies and the reason we are doing so well!

Disagree, Sharrod has been good but not as consistent as Thomas. His form after his injury wasn't great and he has only come back to form in the past 3 weeks?

Reid has improved a hell of a lot, his defensive effort is great and he can pick up disposals and his contested marking is great. Much like Brian Lake. But he hasn't played as many games as Thomas nor has he impacted on games as much as Thomas has.

Although we all knew Thomas had potential because he was such a high pick, however IMO he never really showed that he would be a consistent midfielder or a consistent footballer at all.

I remember struggling to find his perfect position as a forward flank or as a winger. Now with him playing at such a high level, we now have 4 game breakers with Swan, Thomas, Pendlebury and Didak. As we saw last night if 2 of them go missing we can rely on the other 2 to win it for us.

My top 10 would be: (Hard to seperate any of these. Any order could be argued)
1. Dale Thomas (Really looks a much more complete player and is now a star of the competition. Very influential player now with the running ability to play the whole game through the midfield which is a big win)
2. Ben Reid (Now has integrated himself into the senior side as a regular and his rebound from defence with his pin point long kicks have been majestic at times)
3. Chris Dawes (Had limited expectations of him. Jack Anthony's poor form gave him the opportunity and he took it. Structurally a really good fit with Cloke)
4. Sharrod Wellingham (Starting to put the package together. Didn't have high expectations for him but he has really proven me wrong and has had a fantastic season)
5. Dayne Beams (Developing into a real weapon and his game is coming along really nicely. Almost looks like the best player of last years draft the way his form has been so big :thumbsu:)
6. Leigh Brown (Not many had high hopes but he has developed into a consistant player and most importantly has developed his goal kicking significantly. Ideal backup for Jolly and has well and truely cemented his position in this team which is fantastic to see)
7. Brent Macaffer (Has developed into a handy AFL level player and is now a nice negating forward. Has really developed his tackling game and his tackles stick. Really like the progress he has made)
8. Jarryd Blair (Gone from being a super VFL player into a guy who can play at AFL level. Midget but you just have to love him. Will be a real cult figure for many years to come. Will be interesting to see if he gets a shot in the finals)
9. Tyson Goldsack (Has again regained confidence in his ability and he is flying again. Hope to see him in the side for the finals, his form has been good enough)
10. Steele Sidebottom (Has become a regular best 22 guy and has been a nice contributor this season. Really looking forward to what he will produce in the finals)

Disappointments:
1. Jack Anthony (Had him pencilled in at FF. But unfortunately he hasn't been able to recapture his early 09 form and has taken a few backward steps. I'm confident he can break back into the side next season as a regular in some role, but what role we will have to wait and see. A full preseason will do him good)
2. Cameron Wood (Hasn't really developed his game any further which is unfortunate. His tap work improved slightly over the summer but he hasn't improved the impact he has over the ground which is the disappointing part. With Josh not on fire disappointing that Cam didn't take his chance)
3. Josh Fraser (Surprised not to see him maintain his spot in our best 22. Leigh Brown is part of the reason but he just doesn't look like a ruckman anymore and his best chances seem now as a forward if anything)
4. Shane O'Bree (Really expected another season in the best 22 but has looked far from that. I thought perhaps he could have co-existed in our best 22 with Luke Ball but it appears not..)
5. Travis Cloke (Probably hasn't taken the step we all expected this season and is still a fair way off his best. Hopefully he proves his critics wrong in the finals series)

Mind if I qupte this post for another forum that I'm on knights?

Fantastic analysis and right on the money bar one slight difference in opinion (I have N Brown at ten ahead of Sidebum, really been fantastic whenever called upon and a victim of circumstances atm)

What about Blair/ that boy has been playing out of his skin, he can be our selwood.

nah we dont need a selwood... Would prefer our team to avoid cheating tactics irrespective of the ability to con umpires into cheap free kicks

Blair will be more like the brent harvey of collingwood

Because his set shot kicking is so s***house I still have a leaning to Medhurst to come in for him, even though he's been doing well and contested marking as well. Just can't shake what Medhurst may do in front of goals as well as being a quicker mover of the ball.

But not unhappy with The Caf

They do not play the same position therefore are not competing for the same spot in the side. MacCaffer is slowly developing into a pretty good midfielder, while Medhurst is rubbish in the midfield at AFL level. MacCaffer offers far more than just goals and far more than Medhurst could provide.

Missed about 4 games on the trot before the Geelong game due to my own football committments. Since the Geelong game, his marks in contested situations are fantastic and his pressure inside the forward 50 is excellent!

Cemented his spot in our best 22.

Still Daisy. He's gone from good but inconsistent player to the verge of AA top 40 selection.

2 Wellers
3 Reid
4 Caff
5 Dawes

I love the fact at least 12 names have been mentioned. One of the key reason we are sitting on the top of things right now.
One i'd throw in the mix is Tooves...

IMO i would go with Daisy, his season has been A grade, all australian standard.

Looking ahead, this time next year, im hoping the list includes, Wood, Thomas, Sinclair, Brown and Dawes. I think we all want big Dawes to succeed so much, he has progressed significantly but there is still alot of upside in him. I, for one, are hopeful of 4 more consistent games from him in 2010.
