so, today is my birthday. and I hate it. I have always hated my birthday for some reason ... I've gone out of my way to not make a big deal out of it since I was about 10yrs old. I mean I understand why people love theirs, and I love going to birthday parties, just not mine. is anyone else like this about their birthday?

I can't stand it, all the attention for what really isn't that big of a deal. whoop de doo I lived another year what a fantastic achievement for me, a 22 year old male in perfect health. who would have thought I would survive

Yep, mine is coming up and I didn't do anything for my 18th so i decided I would invite some mates out for my 19th
I don't expect it to be any different to a normal night out though, just an excuse to get all my mates together..

Don't really intend on doing anything big for my 21st either. Its just a waste of money and I can have equally as epic times at other peoples parties :D

Happy bday db!

I'm the same, I don't want a 21st next year.
I didn't want to have one either. Parents basically forced me into doing something and it was a good night, not great or anything, but at the end of the day I'm glad I had one.

never do anything for my birthday.....dont really like attention on myself

Don't like them either. I like attention for being awesome, not having it (in many cases fakely) forced upon me on some arbitrary day.

Friends who mean it - can be OK. Work colleagues, acquaintances ... yeah, you're being nice but seriously don't bother.

I once went to a 16th birthday of this girl I went to school with. It was virtually a wedding without the husband, she wore this white dress and everything and it was at a reception centre. Her father threw this boy out the window too.

Personally I can't stand my birthday either.

"Well, birthdays are merely symbolic of how another year has gone by and how little we've grown. No matter how desperate we are that someday a better self will emerge, with each flicker of the candles on the cake, we know it's not to be, that for the rest of our sad, wretched pathetic lives, this is who we are to the bitter end. Inevitably, irrevocably; happy birthday? No such thing" :D

My birthday is coming up as well - everyone asks what I wanna do for it and what I want .. when everyone knows damn well that I just want money and alcohol. Usually just go out for lunch with friends and try to keep it low key, but last year at a resturant, there was 10 of us at a table and my partner surprised me with a cake which was bought out by a bar chick. Everyone started singing happy birthday, then everyone else in the restaurant started singing as well. So embarrassing and awkward.

Parties are a big let down; you invite everyone, old friends etc...but you spend 2 mins of the night talking to them and have to move on to the next guests, so you don't get to catch up at all.

Anyway, I would rather birthday as opposed to deathday...that's the day we will all wish we had another birthday coming up.

I worked at a company where it was tradition to bring cakes and muffins etc on YOUR birthday. WTF?? It's MY birthday I don't cough up cash for others on MY birthday. Is that a greek thing or what?

I've never understood the fascination some people have for increments of 365 (or 364) x 24 hour periods. Weird.

I have always hated my birthday. Mostly due to it being on Christmas day. As a kid the day was always about going from house to house seeing family and doing the Christmas thing.

My ex gf organised my 21st but other than that, have never really had anything for my birthday.

People do that here but it's not expected. It seperates the people who like their birthdays from those who don't.

I haven't been too fond for my birthday for a few years now. I don't want to do much for my 21st but my grandmother is insisting I throw a huge party.

Birthdays are heavily overrated.

Whenever it's my birthday and someone says 'happy birthday!!!' I immediately feel guilty for wasting 4 seconds of their life where they needlessly congratulated me for being able to make my way onto this planet on this day however many years ago. Let's face it, it's the mums who should get the good wishes.
