jesus christ what a load of crap. i was there tonight and i tell ya what everyone posting s@"*t about us being crap reminds me of that troll of a woman with a couple of teeth missing sittin behind that as soon as richmond were a goal down she bagged every member of her team. as soon as they got infront she was loving them.

i posted a similar thread a while ago saying true supporters support and encourage when you loose not tear shreds off the side saying they were a joke.

in hindsight everyone is entitled to their opinion but i think we all need to sit back and realise that it was the first game of the year and richmond is improved from last year as well. yes we had players out and blokes half fit but we wouldnt have said anything about them if we won. as a senior coach i have learned excuses dont get you anywhere, you go with your best 21 or 22 in AFL and run with it.

take a good look at ourselves notice we are wearing proud navy not yellow and black and start being positive not negative. it's a long season.

peace out.

i suddenly feel better

i was at the match
and although i was extremely disapointed
and have already copped alot of shit for it
we showed some promosing signs
they just seemed better prepared, fitter and faster
we lacked forward structure, and a big goal kicker

If Richmond can beat us by 5 goals, who can we beat?

We might get the jump on a few teams, but over a whole game where both sides a committed to win... how many will we win? If fitness is indeed an issue then I'm expecting gradual improvement as the season goes on, but if you've lost so many in the beginning then the confidence will be gone. The players will not believe in themselves, and each other - and I think that's the most frightening thing.

Now it is 12 losses in a row, 3 more and we break our overall losing streak.

both the teams that played tonite wouldnt have beaten anyone else

judd simpson thornton stevens first half? holluhan(liked his position tonite)

judd simmo stevens was good in first half

judd will get better as he gets fitter (100% disposal effectiveness in first half, under 50 for second half)

simmo was ok he just looked a bit rusty (he was flying at points last year, people jump on his case too quickly)

stevens will improve with fitness

we need a good in and under player, we have of wide players

and houlihan was good ( i would love him in attack all year) as eddie betts doesnt get in the correct positions

tackling was the biggest difference between our teams

That's where you and I differ.

I define a true supporter as somebody who is willing to tell it like it is, instead of blindly cheering on the team no matter what crap is served up.

But good luck with your philosophy...

Judd, Stevens both need at least a few runs before they are at their best. Setanta is another who is lacking match fitness and it shows. Also, injuries hurt - especially Fisher, it was obvious we lacked any decent forward line structure and the Tiges easily worked out the "kick long to Fev" gameplan. Having Aisake, Hampson and Kreuzer all injured was unfortunate - Cloke basically had to do it all himself - another player who's been out for an extended period, with some help from the unfit Setanta. Add Walker, and we were well short of our best.

That said, at the end of the day we really need to play smarter. Our midfield will continue to improve - Stevens and Judd are basically new players to the team - but it's our forward line that I worry most over. We are just too one dimensional and even with Fisher back, I can't see players going to him too often before Fevola, because of Fevola's dominating presence. Which is why I'm hoping Kreuzer develops into a gun CHF - having him as a strong option presenting across half forward, with Fevola and possibly Edwards playing deeper and Fisher on the HFF means that teams will not be able to focus mainly on Fevola, and more importantly, if Fev is having an off day we'll have other guys to share the load and chip in for a few goals.

If you wanna walk with the blind ................well thats your choice.
If my team plays like shit and serves up weak performances when i know they are better then that of course im going to vent my frustration
I dont expect a flag this year
I dont expect finals this year

What i expect is IMPROVEMENT and what i saw tonight contained very little of that.

What worries me is we lost to the tigers and to be honest all our best players played well

- Judd good
- Stevens - excellent first 1/2
- Murphy - excellent
- Fev - solid tried hard
- Simpson - good
- T-bird - excellent
- Scotland - solid
- Houlihan - solid

I even felt for inexperienced players Hartlett and Edwards showed plenty.... so all in all really upset

exactly right! This year isn't about winning games its all about positives, and tonight they were few and far between.

Again no leadership tonight.

7 years and counting Blues, I dont understand how after 7 years we are still a rabble?

well i don't want to make excuses for tonites performance which was absolutely insipid, the reality is though that they are still very young and young teams do play this way at times. Its been 7 years but take two from that due to the loss of upper echolon draft picks. Really we are 5 years into the rebuilding, should we be showing more? Probably but lets judge at the half way point not after 1 game. Remember we are still the youngest side in the comp. There is every reason to be concerned however after tonites heartless performance.

How you can say Thorton was excellent has me very confused. Yes he got 28 touches, but WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THEM. He can't find a target, he chips the ball rather than kicking it and consistantly runs himself into trouble. When he moved on to Richo in the 3rd quarter, Richo turned it on. Unless Thornton can play a big man defensive role, his time in the side is coming to an end. He has been an issue for more than a year and isnt getting any better. Don't forget we are paying him $400,000+ a year to serve up the crap he is at the moment.

Other than that i thought there were some promising signs. Edwards looked good, tho he needs to lead to more attacking areas. Grigg, Bower and Jamieson were all very good in defense and Murphy looked good again for long periods. I thought Fev's defensive pressure was excellent and it is clear that he is never going to free kick again .

Very disappointed with the second half effort. Our tackling was terrible, how many times did Richmond players run through packs or past our players without being touched. Only one game in, so not time to get to upset, but they need to put in a more committed performance for 4 quarters next week, because the second half left a lot to be desired.

that's the thing that disappointed me the most. It's been a problem for a long time and isn't improving. Our tackling is generally very poor.

It was a shattering second half but there were positives. We showed in the first half that we can be very effective. Maybe we lost a bit of confidence in the second half? Maybe the fitness isn't where it should be? As has been said, a few of our key players are coming back from long term injuries so lets try to keep it all in perspective.

Lets see where we are in a month before we write off the season completely ;)

On another point, what's with Stevens' hair? He looks like Bart Simpson according to my 14 year old daughter!

Yes the tackling was poor and our defence was totally caught out of position on more than one occasion...but what really frustrates me is our forward line or lack of. I thought the days of just banging it to Fev were over. Where are the set plays...the leads? The missed shots at goal also really killed us...again.
If we can only kick 11 goals against a side like Richmond what the hell kind of score will we kick against teams like Geelong....2 goals? Buck up your ideas Ratts.
