Have the tigers rendered stats useless?

Nah, they overachieved thanks to Lyon's strangulation game plan. Their 2009/10 grand final teams included Raph Clarke, Zac Dawson, Justin Koschitzke, Andrew McQualter, Farren Ray, Clinton Jones, Michael Gardiner and Steven King well past their best, Robert Eddy, and Brett Peake. LYON'S A GENIUS.
Ross Lyon also Guided Fremantle to a grand final. Thats says a lot.

Zac Dawson did win a premiership medal. In the WAFL with Peel thunder

we feel for something more than nothing... chew on that ..
but heaven leads us two.... radical...
I loved that stupid thread about the premiership standard of scoring 100 points a game and concede no more than 86 points or somewhere around lines in that bull***.

Every team is struggling to score. Even the current hawks side under Alistar Clarkson. Hell if you want to know how bad the hawks have fallen from their 2012-16 peak, look at how many games last season Hawks have kicked 100 points or over.

Again.... Look at the last 4 premiership teams.

2016 Bulldogs: 84 points a game in attack, 72 Points a game in defence.

2017 Tigers: 90.5 points in attack, 76.5 points in defende.

2018 eagles: 91 points in attack, 75 points in defence

2019 tigers: 86 points in attack, 73 points in defence

Hell Not even Clarkos hawks can average 100 points a game.

Not really, look at the stats and you will always find the reason a team won. It may not always be a key stat, but the stat IS there. If you look at their percentage of time in the forward half, or goal efficiency, or effective disposals, you'll probably find the reason.
Score at the end of the game is a good one.

Agree with what you say BUT everyone is obviously still focussing on the wrong stats. OP raises a genuine issue.

Clearances? Who gives a *.

Contested ball? Who gives a s**t...

Damien Hardwick doesnt.

Pretty sure Hardwick values post-clearance contested ball very highly - aka match them on the inside, beat them on the outside. This was very apparent in Konrad Marshall's book.

This basically means that he's happy for your Tom Mitchell or Lachie Neale to win possessions at the bottom of a pack and hack a handball out - as long as Tigers are contesting the next possession (once the ball has exited the pack/clearance), so that they can win it and run away from the stoppage. You see this a lot when we play. Often there's only 1 or two of us in tight at the contest and 4-5 mingling around the outside waiting to win the post-clearance contested ball.

If a team wins despite losing the stats, it’s not the result that’s wrong but the stats.

If the AFL allowed open access to their stats like the NBA, we’d get some very smart supporters creating some really smart stats. But all they release are disposals, tackles, etc.

Instead they want to penny-pinch a few million from the media and clubs through the Champion Data arm.

So it’s no wonder the average supporter is so ignorant of the power of stats.
