I'm not talking about the expectations of the BF groupthink, or journo's who tell us all about Courtenay Dempster, but our own expectations.

The consensus seemed to be somewhere between 5th-12th with a massive asterisk next to any opinion based on injuries.

Those of us who didn't think we were on the right track were very few indeed.

Personally, I was expecting the bottom half of the eight, with a moderate injury run. We are doing that with a horrible run (albeit not as bad as last year). So, I believe we have exceeded expectations, but not to the extent that the media believes.

For anyone that knows Essendon well we haven't exceeded expectations by too much if at all. At this stage of the year I expected to win against Fremantle, Carlton, North, Collingwood and Richmond. Replace Hawks with North and that's what we have done.

We are ahead of Carlton and if it wasn't for their plethora of no.1 picks the public would see this. Actually our massive injury list does come into it also as the public never saw the real Essendon last year.

Everyone on this board knew Winderlich had the talent but couldn't get himself on the park. Most people rated Lovett highly but his consistency was a major issue. Dempsey was chronically injured but most thought we had a potential superstar on our hands if he ever got on the park. In fact the only one that has failed to prove the knockers wrong is Gumbleton and that is simply because of bad luck and perhaps a bit of mis-management.

I tipped us for the 8 this year though most didn't. Everything is going to plan and after analysing the opposition I think 4th spot is crying out for someone to snare;)

Based on previous efforts I didn't expect us to be in the 8 by round 9 let alone 4th.

5-4 is definately an improvement compared to 2-7.

If someone gave me the option of being 5-5 by Round 10 (this is assuming we lose to Geelong on Sunday, otherwise it'd be 6-4) I would have gladly taken it straight away.

Expectations or not, I'm extremely happy with the way we're going at the moment. Very excited for the future, who the hell wouldn't be? :thumbsu:

Way too early to be analysing season expectations. It all changes on a week to week, win or loss basis.

I got the idea based on a line from Mike Sheahan saying that no one expected them to be doing this well. I did (but I didn't factor in as many injuries as we've had).

it's hard to say on 07 we did verry good at the start of the season aswell and we finshed bottom 5 :[ but this year it could be the same or we could play better and maby finish in the top 10 :D

What happened to that season? 5-4 then ended with 10-12.
Was it injuries? and/or did injuries pay its toll?

And I wouldn't compare the team of 07 to the team of 09.
This year we are at 5-4 with a number of injuries, once we get those players back, which is soon enough, theres no way we'll lose more games then we win.

NOTE: Also, RIG, why the name change? Ryder is fast becoming god, now your a transformer. ;)

I'll wait until the end of the season before I comment.

Have to agree. Overall I've got to say there are some very premature Essendon supporters on BF. That isn't aimed at you BtG, just noticed a few early celebrators and bandwagoners that have joined in the last month or so (but I'm sure that is a coincidence).

I tipped the Bombers for the eight and every **** laughed at me.

We ended 07 so poorly because our x-factors got injured against Geelong and Sheedy decided to annouce he was stepping down as coach mid way through the season and lost the plot. Rumours also said Players lost respect for Sheedy because they knew he wasn't going to be their at seasons end. Under Knights i reckon we can win the flag. He seems to be getting the best out of his players. Meets with Lovett and Lucas regualry now to see where they are at. Under Sheedy this would of never happened.

I always thought we were a chance for fourth.

As soon as Hille went down I suspected we wouldn't make the eight. So since then we've definitely exceeded my expectations.

No. I think we're on track for top 8 and thought that at the start of the season.

If we end up being clearly a top 4 team by a game or two and some healthy pergentage then I'll say we've exceeded expectations. But a long way to go for that.
