Is having a sickie a great Australian tradition? Are there thousands of people every day calling in sick so they can slack off and watch tv?

Sick days, mental health days call them what u like... It never hurts to take one every now and then... Just dont take too many though

I don't get sick days( haven't had one off in over 10 years), if im sick i use a day of annual leave.

If there is no wind and temp between 18-24 degrees, I'm more than half a chance to get 18 holes and a few lagers in rather than go to work. Fortunately as well, I have very agreeable mates who also warm to this idea. Remember suncreen though, don't need any tell-tale signs.

Strangely, I only ever need sickies during summer, never need them in winter.

Sickies are a must. I do prefer to call them mental health days though
Or gee its a great day to go down the coast.....work will be fine without me days

I encourage them... we are much more productive at work if we are mentally healthy

Unfortunately, I'm almost always too sick to get out of bed when I call in sick. I've had a few days where I've actually been ok and not been able to go into work because I've had an illness I can't risk passing onto the kids (such as last week when I had conjunctivitis) and am not allowed to go in..... sometimes that can be just plain frustrating though!!
