Having To Sit Through A Shellacking

Just a kind of lighthearted look back at games you have gone to that have ended up being either embarrassing or saddening in the size of the loss.

I have been to 2 that I recall.

2001 WACA v West Coast 114 point loss and Scott Cummings booted 14 goals.

2006 Subiaco v WestCoast 82 points. Recieved an sms at 3/4 time asking if I was leaving. I messaged back '' no, here to the end''

I cant recall too many big ones at Football Pk ... can remember the flogging we gave the Hawks in our first ever game

I would bet jenny was at the 144 point game against Brisbane.

One criteria is you must have been there

My first trip to the MCG was to see us take on the Pies in 95, which was almost the amount of points we lost by. 96 in the end. Sav Rocca booted 10, the Crows booted 7 and I who by the way was only about 10 at the time got a cup of beer poured on me by an absolute feral, which lead to my dad almost getting into a fight as we left the ground. Great night.

My first AFL game that I ever went to was Adelaide vs Hawthorn back in 1994. My sister had tonsilits, so I got to go in mum's place (before my membership came through the next year). Hmm not a great way to start. I just checked the scores and the for the 44,000 other dissapointed fans the result was
Hawthorn 22.13 (145)
Adelaide 7.6 (48)
97 point loss in my first game. Luckily now 97 will have a different meaning when thinking about Adelaide.

I've been to some beauties in the early days. I remember one against Footscray in 1992 because I got tickets to the game as a present for my 7th birthday.
Another one that sticks out for me was the time we played Melbourne at Optus Oval and we almost had more people there than them because they were protesting the move. I literally sat in the middle of the Melbourne cheer squad just to stir things up but we lost by five or six goals. I can tell you, it felt like 50 goals because I really stuck myself out there just to sit there on that day.

Thats the hardest.Sitting there knowing its going to be a bad day.Its ok if the crowd is small but full house at Subi , you cant even go for a slash as they ask if your leaving etc.

The WACA game was extra hard as these peanuts thought it was more amusing bagging the Crows than praising their team. So I told them that. Ooops

Then they bagged the trainer as he ran out , I just told them to leave him alone as he was best on ground for us That got a laugh from the section and helped things along

I have seen a few, I went to the 1991 game against Collingwood at Vic Park that was about 123 point defeat from memory. I also went to the 1991 game against Hawthorn at Waverley and we got spanked by 70+ points.

And that memorable 1994 loss to Hawthorn by 97 points. I recon the ground was empty by half time.

I was there on Saturday

I was still receiving sms' at 11 that night asking me "how was the game" from eagles supporters.

I was even getting messages from people who don't follow the game (they follow rugby)

That annoys the **** out of me!

Was at the 94 hawthorn game whre we didnt score at all at one end,watched Dunstall and platten destroy us.

Oh Perth Crow I would gladly swap you for Saturday. Give me a seat at any crows game we get thumped in over the the insults of the commontators on Saturday.

The 3 worst ones I remember -

- Conceding 210 points to Geelong in 1992.
- Getting hammered by about 15 goals in the rain at Waverley against Footscray in 1992.
- Losing by about 80 points to Carlton in 1993 at Princes Park - we were either ahead or within a goal just before half time.

The 1987 SANFL Grand Final doesn't go down as the happiest day in my life, either.

I went to a few absolute shockers in the early days of the Crows.

In 1991, I went to Moorabbin and Victoria Park. Just checked on the AFC website to see what the scores were:

St Kilda 24.18 (162) d Adelaide (4.7 (31).
I remember laying **** on Tony Lockett (he kicked about 12 goals or something) and he just turned to our group and pointed at the scoreboard. It was actually pretty funny.

Collingwood 23.22 (16) d Adelaide 5.7 (37).
Just remember getting flogged from start to finish ... and knicking wooden crates from across the road which we stood on to get a better view.

in 1994, also went to Princes Park when the Crows played the Kangaroos. That was another horror day. The score was:
North 21.23 (149) d Adelaide 10.9 (69). Greg Anderson played on Carey (!!!!) and got absolutely thrashed (not surprisingly). One of the most dominant displays I've ever seen from a player.

I've seen a lot in recent times with North so i know all about it. Centrals kicked 16.0 in the final term at Prospect against us Round 1 2003 (i think) to turn a 4 goal lead into a 20 goal hiding.

I sat through the game (one sided thrashfest) on Saturday at Subiaco as well.

I must say though watching the game pan out it was like watching another team get a belting.
It seemed as if another team turned up to play not the Crows.
They seemed to lack intensity, run and interest.

There's nothing worse than getting beaten by the Eagles let alone absolutely pounded.
Eagle supporters are arrogant at best and they will regurgitate this game until we beat them again.

Hopefully we have learnt from this and when we do meet them in the finals (if they make it) we will return the favour.
It will be a hard week at work i might take holidays.........

I don't get the chance to go to many footy games but I'm pretty sure I was there for both of Rhen's knees and Huddo's.
Not really a thrashing but horrible either way.

Have sat thru the gabba game in 2004 & also last week at subiaco. At least I had a direct flight back from perth, unlike last year when had to travel back via Melbourne after the prelim!!

Not as easy to get in the car & drive home when interstate.

Most eagles fans I spoke to were pretty good, and recognised adelaide ( or jenny craig & her crow-bots as one wag called us) played well below their best.

Was funny to travel all that way and end up sitting next to someone who lives 8 houses down in my street.
