HAWTHORN’S impressive summer training momentum has been partially stalled with injury setbacks to key big men David Hale and Brent Renouf.

Hale has been sidelined for a fortnight with a nagging Achilles tendon problem, while Renouf is nursing on-going knee troubles.

Hale, 26, pulled out of a heavy sprinting session in his early days back into training after the annual Christmas break and has been in rehabilitation since.

Renouf, just 22, is undergoing a delicate management program to balance his need for heavy fitness loading ahead of a long AFL premiership campaign without adding further woes to his troublesome knee.

Full article here.

Not great news...

Actually I was kind of rushed when making this thread and now I've read the article properly, it really doesn't seem like too much to worry about.

Thanks for the heads up on Renouf though bards.

The only big bloke in trouble is PJ since he won't get picked up in the draft....

News just in, PJ has been limited to coffee runs......cappa with two sugars paul......

Everybody loves a good headline - imagine reading this heading as a blues supporter

Carlton's bad bout of the Blues

Midfield pair Bryce Gibbs and Brock McLean have both been hit with a gastro bug. They ran laps along with Ryan Houlihan, who is sidelined with a cork.

That's one serious injury those boys have and I think our boys are pretty much in the same category - its a nuff nuff story.

Renouf is fine. He's on a modified program for certain reasons - you'll probably see for yourselves come NAB Cup time.

How are Max Bailey and David Hale going Grizz? Any idea?

:)

(Don't know much to be honest.)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back from holidays fell of my seat at work after reading this misleading headline.

Pheeeewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!! some posters sure know how to give a guy a 'Cardiac Arrest'.:D

I had the exact same reaction when I first saw the article - Thought I'd share the scare and wake everyone up from this tiresome off season. ;)

I think I can share with you that youngLuke Lowden is coming along nicely. He is a young kid learning to cope a rapidly growing body. Is being brought along slowly and in keeping with his bodies ability to take the stresses of AFL. He is one very big unit. My observation is that he now shades Max Bailey in size.

What this kid can do on the footy field, esp below his knees for someone so tall has to be illegal ! Be patient with your expectations of Luke and you will be rewarded.

Will be a feature at BHH this year and a future star at HFC in coming years.

Cheers N24. I recall watching a BHH match on TV last year and seeing his work below the knees. I was truly impressed, and he's mobile with good skills for such a tall kid. For the deficiencies (through injury) that we've had in the last year in the ruck it is great to know we have some money 'in the bank' so to speak. One step at a time, of course.

bring on big Max.
Should start a comp on what round Max will restart his AFL career.
Any injury worries to Hale or Renouf may see him jogging about in round one, but more likely he will be given time in the Magoos.
Can't wait and hopefully the medicos have got it right this time and his knees are fine.

Reckon there's more chance of a Rd.1 debut than Max being risked on some dodgey, second rate footy grounds in the VFL.

Actually, didn't someone from Hawthorn management (Evans, Pelchen?) say something similar around draft time last year?

He did do his last knee on the hallowed turf at the MCG.
