Autopsy Hawks vs Tuggers

Watched the game closely on the flight yesterday.

1. Shiels and Langers were awesome in their tackling. They were huge
2. Hill and Hartung did some really good things. Especially Hartung. Only once did I see his 'deer in the headlights' reaction
3. Our players always seem to get pinged for holding the ball because they just lay there and don't try hard to make it look like an effort.
Surely the coaches can see this and are training/educating them
4. Brand looked like he belonged. And he's got a good body size. We need him working for an extended period next to Chippa
5. TOB did some good things. He has good reflexes and works well below his knees. Need to stick with him
6. Would like for Lovell to stay in, but someone has to make room for Mitch and Frawley. Lovell and Howe to miss would be my guess
7. Question is, does Shoey come in for Sicily if he's fit ? I assume that the team that plays the Dockers will be the ones to play $ydney, so probably

Agreed. If Schoey's fit it's a toss-up between giving him some game time in the twos or bringing him straight in. I think I'd bring him in to get him ready for the Swans.

If you go back and watch the first couple of games Frawley played for us, Brand's performance isn't too far off that mark. And Frawley was worth pick 3!

Hope you don't mind me posting this. Here's your incredibly useless stat for the day - Hawthorn's last 6 wins have been by 46, 46, 3, 3, 3, and 46 points - how's that for consistency? :)

And Gaze has left Bounce. Of all the rotten luck.

No, I think Schoey has moved from first in between he, sic and TOB to last in. Sic offers all the competitiveness shoe does up front plus he kicks goals off his aggressive effort. And TOB swings like Spang. I think shoe is back to the depth charts.

I'm pretty sure our attack is set short of injury or rough's return.

I also think our defense is set short of injury so I bet brand is out.

We'll keep playing with the midfield setup to get our clearance work up to snuff. But otherwise set.

Sicily doesn't do half the defensive things Schoey does. They are like the polar opposite players.

Schoey's value is his crashing of the packs that create opportunity for the smalls and his ground level defensive work.

Sicily's value is his 1 on 1 contested marking up the ground and his ability to find space between opposition defence to kick a couple of goals.

I think the question is will Sicily be able to kick more goals than Schoey can create. I think they are pretty even for mine structurally.

I tend to agree. I'm probably seeing Schoey through rose coloured glasses, but he does provide a bit more physicality than Sicily. It would be great if one of them could impose themselves so the choice becomes obvious.

Way I see it is that Sicily is high risk high reward. Can fizzle and have 0 impact or can kick 3 or 4 goals and be a matchwinner.

With Schoey what you see is what you get. Physical impact with his big body and tackling, create a couple of goals for the smalls and might kick a goal if he's lucky. Low risk low reward.

Just depends how much Clarko wants to roll the dice.

On the basis that consistency and team plan is the key, that makes Scheoy a lock.

Would you roll the dice in a Grand Final though Stewie Dew style? ;)

Coaches votes
RICHMOND v HAWTHORN
7 Jack Gunston (Haw)
5 Jordan Lewis (Haw)
4 Luke Breust (Haw)
4 Isaac Smith (Haw)
3 Dustin Martin (Rich)
3 Cyril Rioli (Haw)
2 Josh Gibson (Haw)
2 Liam Shiels (Haw)

That's a real even spread. Usually I can guess how many votes from each coach, but there are eight different players from a total of ten possibles; only two players scored votes from both coaches.
Yeah it is an interesting one

I thought he was ok.

He doesn't panic like Schoey does down back.

Not sure what the team looks like with all injuries back.

I'd prefer Brand down back than the other two folks down back or up front.
TOB does not play on the nbr one key fwd like we kept asking Shoemaker to do.

Sammy might have to miss one more game so that he doesn't get to play his 300th in shitney!! The champ deserves the spoils at the MCG!!

Sicily's numbers are very much like Gunnos in his second year in football.. So not sure why on earth he wouldn't be kept in the side unless 'resting'.

Maybe. But Shoe isn't going to improve. He has peaked at mediocre. Sic could be anything. Shoe will crash packs..sure, then just gets lost. Both of them will cost a goal a game with a horrible turnover, but I prefer Sicilys high ball marking capacity.
Shoe can sit in wait in the VFL.

Have to admit that I'm eating humble pie - questioned the value of only being dropped for one game - this is why I'm on the couch and not in the box
So should we start calling you Couch Potato again?

Not that hard

Jack got 5+2
Gibbo or Shiels 1+1

The others all got their vote from one coach

Yep, only way it works:

RICHMOND v HAWTHORN
7 Jack Gunston (Haw) 5 + 2
5 Jordan Lewis (Haw) 5
4 Luke Breust (Haw) 4
4 Isaac Smith (Haw) 4
3 Dustin Martin (Rich) 3
3 Cyril Rioli (Haw) 3
2 Josh Gibson (Haw) 2 or 1+1
2 Liam Shiels (Haw) 1+1 or 2

I would guess:

Hardwick-
5. Lewis
4. Breust
3. Dustin Martin
2. Gunston
1. Gibson

Clarko-
5. Gunston
4. Smith
3. Rioli
2. Shiels
1. Gibson

Why? I suspect Clarko would value more the players playing sacrificing roles rather than those who gathered stats.
