stratton, mitchell , cegs and sicily best on . how much longer can we carry Mcevoy ? so slow and barely wins a hitout , wouldn't mind shoe back to see if he can play that fwd/ pinch hit ruckman like a ben brown . He won't win the hitouts but it's not like we do anyway with mcevoy in there
McEvoy is doing what is needed. That said, who would you replace him with? There is no one else in the VFL that is capable so just accept it and support.

I missed the game as i was on a hot date.

Looks like from the commentary here that I didn't miss much.

Go Hawks, great to be on top given how pessimistic everyone has been of our chances this year.

Painful to watch, all Tassie games are painful... I'm praying for the day we have our own 25-30k boutique stadium and we don't have to go down there.

Anyway, Sicily should bloody win the NAB rising star, seriously who's been better than him? He'll end up with 40 odd goals as a hybrid forward who spent large chunks of the season as spare defender. The kid is a star, terribly hard match up.

Not much else to get really enthused about, top of the pops is cute, Geelong showing their handbagger spirit was brilliant. Overall, good weekend.

Why are you home? Surely the only dates you go on would be sure things? No Netflix and chill? Cmon dude, spill the beans ;)

Another underwhelming game. Another win. Glad I didn't get to see much of it. Bank the 4pts. Top of the ladder. Still much improvement to be made if we are truly going to threaten finals wins though.

Still, we're in a great position so if we can get it together, we are every chance of shaking the competition in finals. The 4 weeks after the bye will give us more indication.
PA in Adelaide (should win)
Sydney in Sydney (not confident)
Richmond MCG (should win)
Carlton in Launy (should win)

Need to win at least 3 of these.
All 4 would be huge.
2 or less would certainly make it more difficult to look like s genuine contender.

I hope during the bye clarko can get the guys motivated and sharp again... In all honesty we only beat the suns by 26 pretty bad if your up the top of the ladder.... Is it just luck we're up there.?.. I dunno ,but playing port and Sydney is going to test us to the hilt...would of loved more game time prior to the bye for hodge... And now Cyril will of not played for ages coming into the next game... Can see us starting out rusty again:( I don't know how we got to the top but there's a lot to work on.

My take is completely different, we are just doing what's needed during a tough & very even season, blooding youngsters, getting ready for a real tilt in September. Top of the pops at 11/3 we have done well despite misfortune with injury, which, fingers crossed we won't have any more. I couldn't be happier. Mind you this was a pretty special weekend, thank you St Kilda.

I think this is a very relevant quote for how they deliver the ball into the F50.

Constant high balls to no one and no one able to take a pack mark. So many time the forwards could be leading into open space only to stay in the square and wait for a high ball, which ends up being won by the other team.

It happens virtually constantly in every game. Got to think it is a coaching directive.

Ever since 2009, the forwards have never led to anywhere other than the pockets. That's why they never beat Geelong as they played right into Geelong's hands.

Hawthorn has and has had the best forward line in the league for years yet it only players to a tiny bit of its potential.

Well, I loved It. Surely you realise it was for CANCER? Whether you like it or not, the colour shouldn't matter. I don't care if it's green with purple spots, , as long they raise money for CANCER. ONE day , just ONE day they will wear them for, and you complain about the colours. FGS, The Scotts are Whingers, now we have some grizzlers in here..:rolleyes::rolleyes: Maybe they should design one THEY Like!

I wasn't criticising the jumper, I was saying it was another AFL fail on the Jersey clash front because Gold Coast wore red

How ridiculous is it that Sam Mitchell is still racking up 35 possession games at 80%+ efficiency at 33 years old? Given he plays the game standing still he could literally play till he is 40 as long as he doesn't suffer any long term injuries. Rapidly moving up the ranking for all time Hawthorn greats.

Also must be a lock for All Australian "sledger", his Garry Ablett one today was almost as good as the injection mime performance art from last year.

Very good sign. The problem with 2012 was that we couldn't manage players. By finals we ran out of steam. We maintain a good degree of freedom in 2016. Top 4 is all we need though top 2 would be better.

McEvoy had a quiet game today but has been great this season - he has a massive tank and works all game, competes (yep agree doesn't dominate) in the ruck, is a good mark and has been hitting the scoreboard. He is going just fine and will be an important player come finals.

Positives: Hodge was solid, Lewis is definitely back to near his best, Birchall's best game for the year, Sicily played another great game, our defence stood up yet again led by Gibbo, Hartung recovered from a shaky start, Hill's best game for a while, four points and no injuries

Negatives: Minus 16 in contested possession, poor use of the footy going inside 50, indecisive once we got inside F50 and hospital hand passes galore.

Good to get the win but same story as most games in that we need to play better to contend.

See the rope-a-dope thread...

While we haven't been great this year realistically we have had one bad (and it was real bad) game vs GWS. The other losses against Sydney and Geelong we had our chances and there was mitigating factors in both of those games. Looking back close wins against Adelaide, Bulldogs and North stack up pretty well plus we flogged the Eagles. Clarko knows it is all about qualifying for the finals and we're in a great position to finish top 4. Let's wait and see what happens for the rest of the year, I'm quietly confident :)
