My "it's bad to abuse the players" take is apparently ruffling the feathers of people who would prefer to continue abusing the players, unfettered.
I saw 2 pretty abhorrent ones that are now no longer there.Unless they deleted comments, I didn’t see anything attacking Murphy personally.
Some morons on Facebook, that the club had to delete.Who is abusing players?

They’ll always be the ridiculous outliers in everything unfortunately.I saw 2 pretty abhorrent ones that are now no longer there.
Enough fans that the club admin had to post on two different platforms. What did you post as a reply?Who is abusing players?
If you consider, genuine criticism of a player abuse, then I can’t help you.
Suggestions?Annnnndddd yet another ridiculous start time. Can we at least name a round after me and set it at a reasonable hour??!!

115 games % in his favourThere's only one way for Murphy to silence the criticism, play well.

Me too, we are playing for 2nd spot and a 10th win before the bye round. Regardless of selection or what you think of Nicks as a coach, to be able to say that is pretty flipping amazing!Lid will be well and truly off if we win this.
Fautores Transmarini CircumSuggestions?
Shouldnt defensive rebound be a concern against every side? Currently clubs are running players off Tex and we havent rushed Murph in until nowNot really. Murphy is a pressure forward who's been selected to apply forward pressure, a weakness of ours, against a side who's biggest threat to us is defensive rebound.
Lets hopeHis selection will allow Rankine (and perhaps Rachele/Keays) to rotate through the middle more while still rolling with three talls.
I dont think he is better than any alternative. What he does have is more game time - which seems to be the criteria for his selectionMurphy, for his many faults, is currently better at the specific role he's been asked to play tonight than any of the mooted alternatives,
Ameneven though they (Draper, Taylor, Dowling) will all hopefully have better long-term AFL careers.
You Americans talk funnyFautores Transmarini Circum
They have a point though. People constantly go after the player instead of those that select him. It’s not his fault he gets picked. I have a basic rule.. go after the decisions and actions, not the person - in other words- play the ball, not the man.Even the Happy Clappers have turned after the Murphy selection
The club put a comment on its Facebook page on the team selection post "Footballers are human too, please be kind or reconsider leaving a comment"
Its that attitude why we can't take the next step, can't upset little Lachie now can we

I struggle to see what Murphy is picked for accomplishedYep, of course, but the Hawks are a slightly unique case. Most clubs generate more scores from their forward half, they're about 50/50. Weddle is a big threat against us. And the loss of Peatling will probably make us less defensively secure at stoppage, so Murphy's inclusion is a way of offsetting that, albeit mostly in a different area of the field (although he'll also push up to secondary mid-zone stoppages).
This is where we disagree. I like Draper, Taylor and Dowling. I don't agree there's a high chance that any of them will perform that specific defensive forward role better than Murphy will, tonight.
Your sentence might have cut off prematurely?I struggle to see what Murphy is picked for accomplished
Poor at his jobYour sentence might have cut off prematurely?
I think Murphy is a slightly below-average pressure forward at AFL level. Several people on this board seem to believe he's the worst player in the AFL, worst player in the club's history, etc. I disagree with that but don't really mind people holding that view. I also don't know how many times I can repeat my basic point: for his many flaws, I think he'll produce better output as the 22nd player tonight than the mooted alternatives. If we disagree on that, then we've hit a fundamental (but hopefully cordial) impasse.Poor at his job
