It's not an exaggeration at all. The club posted comments on Facebook and Instagram politely reminding everyone that "footballers are people too" – a clear reference to abuse of the player. Excuse it if you like, I won't.

Yes they posted that, doesn’t make it true.

Again, and I was reading the comments at the time, it was mostly bemoaning selection policy and Nicks, rather than a personal attack on Murphy.

Venturing an opinion is fine, the point is that a significant share of our fanbase has responded to years without success by becoming incredibly toxic and resorting to abuse against players and coaches whenever the club makes a decision they don't like. This board being a good example. Many of those same people, here and elsewhere online, use their anger as evidence that they're more passionate or knowledgeable supporters.
