I still kind of think the murder is secondary to the development of Cohle and Hart. It's a manhunt but I think it's more about their methods and interactions. There have been a lot of clues about who is involved in the cult and I don't think there will be some big twist.

Yeah, I reckon you might be right. It seems to be about the journey not some sort of massive twist that the writers are plotting. Might be wrong but.

This show is just getting better and better. That final scene was incredibly harrowing, even knowing that he obviously gets out alive. It was so encompassing that I had no idea it was all one long take until I read it here.

My only question is who was the guy in the long-nosed gas mask at the end of the last episode? I assumed that was Ledoux, which means that the whole reason to go through Cohle's ex-gang connections wasn't really necessary. Or did I miss something pivotal here?

that scene was a flash forward, in their old timeline, they haven't found him yet

Wow. Late to the party. I only wish I'd ignored this until the season ended so I could smash it out in one massive marathon. Watching week to week weakens the experience of a show such as this. Like The Wire, Twin Peaks, etc. this is some of that rare magical tv that looks and acts like a film and I always enjoy it best treating it as such. God bless HBO.

I know what you mean, but it can also enhance the experience. The anticipation every week can make it very rewarding.

Not sure why I didn't think to look for a thread for this, but anyway, I'm here now! What an amazing show. Most of it is slow and methodical, asking just as many questions as answers. But like all great shows, it has big moments. Some are just short, such as the ending to episode 3, but stuff like the 6-7 minute take is just crazy. Can't wait to see where it goes.

Yeah, I've always thought that as well. It gives you time to think about certain parts of the episode and really look forward to the next one. I love doing marathons as well, but for great TV shows I think it pays off much better to give yourself some time between each episode. Each to their own, I guess.

This show, just incredible. Literally gets better every week too, each episode has been an improvement on the previous one.

I'm guessing I'm not the only one thinking this, but I reckon the storage locker is full of evidence he's gathered over the years, including the stick things, which also explains the appearances at the crime scene. Though it doesn't explain who is behind it, especially with the rev dead.

I'm also thinking now we'll get an answer as to who it is.

Man this show gets better every week, sucks its only 8 episodes long so 3 more weeks. this show is the best show on TV right now by a measurement that is yet to be named.

Next week looks insane. i agree with you Fyfie_ on the locker theory.

Yeah thats where he must be keeping his evidence. I guess Rust has been detectivising these murders since he left the force.

Definitely seems like there is a cover up going on. Maybe the two detectives are under instructions from a 'higher power' to try and pin the crime on Rusty as he is getting too close to solving it himself.

Can't believe how much happened in that episode

Yea they seem to be setting it up as team Rust v the bad guys. He's obviously been working the case by himself because he suspects someone in the police force is involved.

Harts story will continue because (Just a guess)
his kid has been groomed to be part of the ritual killings or she is working as a prosti and will be picked up by one of the worshipers

First of all amazing show.

Secondly I have a feeling Maggie's parents are involved somehow. Maybe the daughter witnessed one of the ritual killings by mistake, explaining both her drawings and her penchant for wearing the crown. Wasn't it Ledoux's inmate who mentioned lots of rich people venturing down to this place to sacrifice children. If I recall Maggie's parents are very well off and seem like they would be "friends" of the governor, who is surely involved somehow.

That was a very tense episode. I guess the mark of a quality show it to back up week to week and this one does. Looking forward to the 'throwdown' it's been referenced a few times. Can't wait!
Some interesting theories out there that's for sure. All feasible but just to hard to make a call on anything really. Loving this show.

This is awesome. I also think it's the sort of show that will be way better to watch this way, instead of say the whole 8 episodes in a row. I love trying to figure out theories each week only for another curve ball to come along to ruin them for you.

So I'm going with the big cover up thing, people in high places and all that, certainly Tuttle being somehow involved. I think it's safe to assume Cole and Marty staged their falling out so they could work it from both sides.

The preview for next week sent shivers down my spine

Just when you think they can't take the show to new heights.
