people were saying the same thing about mcconaughey
Were they though? He was already well on his way on the prestige trail with excellent performances in Mud, Magic Mike and The Lincoln Lawyer amongst others. Besides that, the series was not a success yet so he wasn't dealing with the hype that faces Vaughn.

Anyone who wasnt living in 2005 knew Mconaheyhey was pretty damn good at this acting stuff by the time the hype for TD started. Hell, the movie he won an Oscar for was released two months prior to TD.

I'm interested to see what Vaughn does, though.

I don't mind the Vaughn choice - considering the success of season 1 & that half of Hollywood would have had their hand up for the role, I doubt the producers decided on someone that might be unable to deliver.

Season 2 is setup to be disappointing compared to how great season 1 was.

Firstly how can you tell a story over 8 episodes when your going to have different directors. Not all of them portray the scenes and story the same way. I wouldn't be surprised if it is a bit disjointed.

And Vince Vaughan is a horrible casting choice.

It's set up to fail only because so many fans overhype the show to be something it isn't and then rage when it doesn't meet their unrealistic expectations. Those of us that enjoyed it for what it was throughout the whole series will enjoy it fine IMO.

The logic about different directors is baffling, you do realize True Detective broke the norm in having a single director yeah? Plenty of the most critically acclaimed shows of all time have coped fine with multiple directors whilst being able to maintain the tone, fluidity and direction of the story perfectly.

These directors are proffessionals hired to do a job, they're not egotistical loose cannon artists who will do whatever they want with the script. This is Nic Pizolatto's vision, he wouldn't have hired these directors if he didnt have the utmost confidence in their ability. True Detective set a standard with the quality of direction last year and every single one of these directors will be well aware of what's expected of them.

How can you criticize a casting choice when you have no idea about what sort of character Vince has been tasked to play? HBO didn't force VV onto Nic, nor did Vince beg him for a role, Nic actively chased Vince for this role so I'd say there's a fair chance it was written specifically for him. Granted his resume isn't top drawer but it's stupid to dismiss Vince's ability, he's had some great comedic performances and I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in such a different character to what he's used to.

The trailer made it look like a lot more of an "action" cop show, which I'm not too sure about. But the trailer could be incredibly different from the actual show.
Drama scenes wouldn't really fit a 60 second trailer sans dialogue.

Just going off the trailers but these detectives seem slightly troubled, so should add plenty of depth to their characters. Seems consistent with the first series.

" Then start askin the right ****en questions......." ( drags on cigarette , smirks and sits back )............cut to black - credits
