I dont need to the "pertinent details" the court found him guilty of sex crimes against children, deserves to spend the rest of his life in there.

I would never condone a single act "maybe" some leniency, but this was repeated calculating systematic and deceptive mind of a criminal.

Such a sentence would not be remotely practical or sensible, so I'm afraid you're stuck with what is a pretty strong one in a workable system.

Oh in there case, I condone torture then a slow death. Sex crimes against children is in the same level as killing someone. A lot of victims never recover and suffer consequences both at present and later in life, not to mention their loved ones that suffer as well.

When it comes this kind of crimes, I have no leniency on these sick people, they are not animals, as animals dont do that to their own.

Not saying he isn't scum, but what sentence would you advocate ( within the constraints of our society ) for someone who violently r*ped several children.?

And I disagree that its at the same level as killing someone. There is most decidedly no bouncing back from murder. And I'm sure most people would prefer their loved ones to actually survive, even if they are traumatised.

Look your right, I guess what I am trying to say is that with abuse some people die inside is the point I was trying to make.

I would like to see the guy also sued for the wealth he accumulated from the show. If his family didnt know of his acts, they shouldnt be made to suffer as well, but I hope he has his assets taken from him.

I dont know what prison sentence is enough?

I dont think anyone does, and with respect to the judge, I dont think he does either.

It is impossible to gauge the hurt, and damage, and injustice that this man's actions have caused. To his victims, to their families, to his own family. We can only hope that he, in the eyes of Lady Justice, gets his fair whack. I, by no means, meant to imply that his crimes were not heinous, or that his victims do not deserve justice, or that he deserves sympathy at all.

He tarnished men of good name everywhere, and make women a little more afraid, and he hurt children which is unforgiveable. I won't lose any sleep over his punishment.

I know its not a politically correct thing to say or do or to condone, but some monsters deserve the punishment dished out in prison.

In saying that inSA, we as you may or may not know some of the most heinous criminals convicted of torture and murder (one victim being the newsreader's son) they apparently live a celebrity life in prison.

It was an ok sentence but I hope the Public Prosecutor does appeal. Be nice to see him get a couple more years :)

Wishful thinking but....more likely he will appeal and get it reduced in line with other sentences that have been applied for similar crimes and more heinous crimes. Believe it or not he's not the worst monster out there.

I agree it's not politically correct BUT I also agree with you. I think in days past, part of the deterrent for crimes like those committed by Robert Hughes, was the welcome they'd receive in the big house.

I think that there's a bit of a lack of perspective among the general public about these things. Perceptions of sex offences are so distorted because the media focus on a small number of very specific types of such offences. Many of the worst ones don't get any coverage at all.

True, but his notoriety would send a strong message.

The obsession with prison rape/abuse that finds its way into these threads is mindboggling.

You may be able to explain why that is the case given your comments?

Vigilante mindsets? Sheer ignorance? Prevailing myths?

I don't know the basis, since it's not a mindset I share. Hence the mindboggling aspect.

See I dont share your mindset. I think the reason there is discussion is because those crimes are considered especially heinous in the community. Hence it leads to discussion. Also a lot of us in here either know of the show or have watched the show.

I noticed that you have commented on recently of crimes of this nature ie sex crimes. You didnt explain your reasoning for your "mindboggling obsession".

As far as I know this is the only crime I have commented on this thread. I used to watch the repeats of this show as a kid so hence I knew the actors from this.

I comment on these topics because I know the area extremely well.

Clearly you misread my post.

The part I find odd is nothing to do with people being interested in the case. It's a high-profile matter.

My comment was about the obsession with what happens to people once they are imprisoned - ie.

Or at the very least share a cell with someone called Bubba.

I think in days past, part of the deterrent for crimes like those committed by Robert Hughes, was the welcome they'd receive in the big house.

Hey dad, don't forget to not drop the soap...

He can explain it to very large and very nasty men on the inside while he's in not quite upright positions.

It comes up in almost every thread of this nature. It's quite odd.

While the case is a serious matter, I dont think any levity in the comments should be interpreted any more than just humour generated from entertainment industry of what prison is like. I mean after all we are in this forum because we follow sports passionately and other things in life take a back seat. If I wanted to engage in a serious discussion I think I would read or post in another forum.

I would highly presume that most people in here do not have any idea what prison in Australia is really like.

I certainly dont.

I think some posters in here probably dont want a criminal to have a pleasant time in prison because of the heinous crimes they have committed. I do hope they do have an unpleasant experience.

We could ask Carl Williams.. Oh Wait.

I think it's human nature to wish bad things on people who commit such heinous crimes
