Hird back to take on Blues
Monday, 13 August 2007
Essendon champion James Hird is expected to make his return to football this Saturday afternoon against Carlton. With the Bombers having slumped to 13th place on the ladder, it is potentially Hird’s third last game in the red and black.
Essendon high performance manager John Quinn put Hird through a searching fitness test this morning and the Bomber veteran came through with flying colors.
“We did a session this morning which included some speed and agility work," Quinn said.
"Matthew Knights did some skill work with him and he didn’t have a problem so we expect him to play this weekend.
“He has missed five matches so we have given him plenty of time to get over it. He will join in full training on Wednesday and have a light run on Friday and be ready to go.”
Jason Johnson – who missed last weekend’s Bendigo Bombers’ match – is expected to resume this weekend as well.
Jason Laycock – who suffered a corked calf against Fremantle – is expected to make a full recovery and play against the Blues.
