Love 'em both. I probably would avoid making the call on who is better. But these sort of questions will always be asked.

If we had of taken Judd over Hodge then we would've gotten too good, too quickly and wouldn't of ever drafted players like Franklin, Roughead, Lewis, Birchall, etc. We wouldn't of hired Alastair Clarkson and we probably wouldn't of implemented the culture change that was required circa 2004. Likely wouldn't of gotten Croad back either.

With Judd, we probably would've been a consistent finals team from 2004-2009, but never a real premiership threat. 2008 wouldn't of ever happened, let alone 2013 and 2014. We wouldn't of had vital premiership players like Brian Lake and Shaun Burgoyne willing to leave their clubs to come join us in hope of winning a flag.

Hodge's development coicinded perfectly and set us up to win multiple premierships. The same thing wouldn't of happened if we had drafted Judd.

I'm trying to think back to what I was doing back in 03/04.. Just starting Uni, drinking to much, playing footy and spending my weekends at spy lounge trying to drag a stray.

I was a feisty little bugger, quite aggressive and forward.

Times have changed, we've won 3 flags and I've got a girl pressing me for a ring and keeping me in check.

Tucky was an out an out champion who gets overshadowed by his peers from those great teams, but he holds a coulpe of records I don't think will ever get broken and is a dead set legend.

We've been blessed at Hawthorn to have some great premiership captains over the years who bled brown and gold, Tucky and Hodge are two of them but not alone and I think all of them were better leaders than Judd

My dad and grandpa who had a few connections to the club at the time were repeatedly told to give this kid time. He will be an absolute beauty and they'd never seen a kid drafted with his kind of leadership skills mixed in with pure talent. The only player I can think of since to be the same is Joel Selwood.

If only hawks supporters back in 02-04 knew that Hodge would later become one of Hawthorns greatest ever players and become a Hall of Fame footballer. They would have rested alot easier haha.

I can say hand on heart 100% that Luke Hodge became my favourite player very, very early in his career.

Reckon if you asked Judd which was his favourite medal, he'd say it as one of his brownlows.

With all the conjecture as to whether Hawthorn made the correct choice with Luke Hodge as No 1 draft pick has been put to rest.

Paul Connors is Luke Hodge's manager, he also manages Luke Ball, Chris Judd and Graham Polak. He stated catagorically this evening that at least 10 of the 16 AFL clubs indicated Hodge would have been their first choice.

So all this retrospective talk about the Hawks making the wrong decision is a load of rubbish, as I pretty much suspected.

He also said that Luke Hodge is very happy at Hawthorn and expects him to renew his contract with the Hawks as he is looking forward to a possible leadership role at the club.

Connors went on to say that he couldn't fault the professional manner in which the Hawthorn Football Club negotiates contracts with any of his players.

So the club does get some things right by the sounds of things.
