2 weeks ago I would have though that Robbo was finished, and that was fine with me. He would retire gracefully, staying a one-club-man, and finishing a great career. When i heard possibilites of going to the doggies my heart sank. I hope he doesnt.

Also, after todays game. I rekon if he were to hit form these last 2 games, 1 more year would be in order.

what do yous rekon?

I love Robbo but we can't read too much into today's game as he was playing against a rabble of a side. Part of me agrees with Merc but what if having him on the list takes away a pick late in the draft or in the PSD where we could nab another Liam Jurrah?

I love Robbo but I think his time is nearly up. He will not be in our team when we challenge for the flag. Obviously our young KPP will take time to develop (Watts & potentially Butcher) but I would expect Watts to play more games next season and Butcher (if we get him) to be given a go at FF.

With guys like Wonaeamirri hopefully returning next season and the Jurrahcane I am not sure how much room we have for him in our forward line. Don't forget Bate as well.

Potentially a forward line of:
Wonaeamirri Butcher Jurrah
Maric Watts Bate

Obviously I would not expect Butcher to play all 22 games if we picked him up and if we don't pick him up that FF spot is up for grabs. I guess it is a fight between Robbo, Miller and Newton to get that spot.

I'm not convinced he's finished.

It's not so much how he played today, it's how he went about playing.

The spring is still there, the passion and emotion after every goal plus it doesn't matter who it is you're playing if you play well, you play well and he did.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go round again.

You're hanging your argument on us picking up Butcher which looks doubtful and rightfully so IMO, we need the two highly skilled midfielders in Scully and Trengove.

Also people need to stop this perception of "he's not in our next Premiership team piss him off", it's stupid. It's not all about who will and who won't be there for our next flag, it's about developing the players we have. Having nothing but youth gets you nowhere, just look at Freo today. Having Watts get murdered week in and week out getting the best or second best defender will do nothing for his development. By having Robbo there it takes the focus off Watts and allows him more of a chance to have an impact up forward while he's stuck with his school boy body.

I just think Robbo's attitude at times, combined with his lack of ability to chase (it's as much ability as desire) where by if he doesn't get the ball he's almost not worth being there will unfortunately be the undoing of him.

Newton probably could have done most of what Robbo did today, except for he wouldn't have kicked as straight.

A Jurrah, Bate, Watts tall forward line can be strong enough. Our mad dog midfielders will take care of them.

I'm with Dez! on this one. Everything he's said on the subject make's perfect sense to me. Listen to the man! :D

His numbers have been pretty damn good this year - 11 games and 23 goals.

Second best goal/game average behind the JURRAHCANEE who has 15 from 7.

One thing I did notice from the stats is he was the only Dees player without a tackle. He seriously has to work on that if he wants another year.

He has already been moved on.

Also - we have to make way for 6-7 players to come in this season. Would you rather it be an old man like Robbo or a kid like Valenti?

He hasn't been moved on, Bailey has said a decision on Robbo's future hasn't been made yet.

I guess for mine his performance in the last 2 rounds could play a huge factor. Even if he doesn't kick too many goals, I want to see Robbo be passionate and do the second efforts that will make him a valuable asset next season.

He didn't do a pre-season this year, so provided he can get his fitness back to its peak, I'm more than happy to keep him on. One more season where it's pretty obvious we won't be pushing finals won't harm our list.

You say we could potentially miss out on another Jurrah, I say we could potentially lose Robbo to another Isaac Weetra. I know who I want in the forward line.

Robbo's got 2 games left for the MFC. If he wants to play on and a club wants him, we should do everything in our power to facilitate a trade even if it is a Steven King ilk trade.

His time is up.

I reckon keep him. I've changed my mind on this about half a dozen times today, but he's obviously still fit enough to play top level. Bailey mentioned in his presser yesterday that it's up to Robbo to decide. I hope he decides that he wants to take heaps of speccies. For Melbourne.

I may be wrong but I thought he said something along the line of "Robbo has some decisions to make and he'll make them in his own time". Bailey is very cautious and clever with his words, and to me he was saying that Robbo won't be playing for the dees next year, but how he finishes he career at Melbourne, and in the AFL, is up to him.

I think he's missed the perfect opportunity to go out with a few goals and a big win against Freo. He might struggle to get a kick in the next 2 weeks.

First time poster here guys so go easy on me.
Not many players come back from serious injuries the previous year and dominate, let alone in a struggling team that aren't delivering the ball that well to the forwards.
We know that Bate can't be our main 'go to' option so we still need more forward targets whilst Jurrah and Watts develop more.
I'm not the biggest fan of Robbo but I believe that he should be given another year to ease the pressure off our other forwards. By that stage he'll have done a pre season and be a lot fitter and have more confidence in his body.

I love Robbo but he has been told to move on and we need to accept that. Its the last chance we pretty much have before the draft is r*ped to get a whole fresh bunch of kids on the list. We cant hold onto him any longer.

Actually he hasn't been told to move on yet, having Robertson won't affect the draft it's one late pick in the draft that we probably wouldn't even use or would be another Isaac Weetra.

Taking the focus off Jurrah and Watts is more important than one late pick in the draft.

There is still Miller, Bate and dare i say Newton :) .

Robbo isnt up to the standards of what a forward should be these days. He is the traditional lead up forward. Its all about forward pressure these days, which he completely lacks.

And hasnt he already been told to move on with Wheatley and Whelan?

Miller adds nothing inside forward 50.

Bate is better off as a third tall, keeping Robbo would assist him greatly as well.

Newton while I think has good potential wouldn't take the focus off Jurrah and Watts as he is developing himself.

Robbo is the only player that would take the focus off Watts and Jurrah and take the best defender.

In days gone by I'm sure Robbo would have taken one of the oppositions best defenders but I'm not sure that is the case anymore. I mean who played on him on the weekend? I watched the game on tv and at times it looked like Suban and Broughton were playing on him (feel free to correct me if i'm wrong). They're young guys only to debut this season. Surely you don't rate them as Fremantle's best defenders. I also noticed Tarrant who has been one of their better defenders this year was on Brad Miller who you seem not to rate. If anything the bigger body players like Miller will take away the better defenders which will allow Watts and co. time to develop.

Even with 1st year AFL players as his opponent he only managed to kick 3 goals in a match where we as a team kicked 20. I just don't think too much can be read into this match against Freo. A few weeks ago everyone was saying let him go. Now everyone is saying he's back let's keep him.

Regardless of whether or not we keep him our young talent are going to have to play against good defenders so I don't think this should form the basis of your argument. Against Essendon when Jurrah made his debut he as matched up against Fletcher.

Pointless discussion.

Already GOONNNEE

Won't be going around next year in the red and blue.

Focus you attention on how the hell we are going to get rid of a contracted Newton - I am sure the club would happily take anything for him - but the best result for us is going to be if we can trade Newton and somebody else (maybe Bartram) for a third / fourth round draft pick / or an apple.

We are going to struggle to free up the space we need for next year.
