We all know that we are the sleeping Giant of the AFL and once we reach the heights of constant top 8 premiership contenders the Richmond following will rival any other in the league. I know that there are people like us who go to every game in Melbourne but how big can Richmond be?

I think last year we had 4th highest average attendance and were wooden spoon which is unbelievable, a powerful Richmond FC what would it mean?

Do you think we could surpass 40,000 Members?
Have 85000+ every time we play Coll, Carl or Ess?

I think we can and if that happens it is going to mean sustainable success because the revenue we will gain from that is astonishing and the money will be furiously pumped into the Footy Department so recruiting and Development will be A grade.

We came 3rd for attendances last year. Like Essendon, Carlton and Hawthorn in the 80s and 90s, we will gain a new generation of fans once we become successful. We have missed out on about 4 or 5 generations of fans over the last 25 years. If we had success like those teams during that time, I'm sure we would have been close to the biggest club in the league by now. Even Collingwood has played about 10 times as many finals as we have since 1983. let's hope we can make most finals series over the next 10 years or so. If we win this week and have a good period of form up until memberships sales are cut off, I think we can reach 35,000 ticketed members this year, plus 10,000 non ticketed members. If we happen to make the finals this year and the following 3+ years, you would think we can get 40k ticketed next year, 45k ticketed in 2010 or 2011. Who knows, we may even reach 50k ticketed after 3 or 4 years of success plus another 15k non ticketed. We'll be huge. By then we will be averaging 60,000 crowd per game. This season we are averaging 55,000 per game from the first 4 rounds. We have big games against the Cats, Hawks and Essendon at the G and the Dogs and Saints at telstra coming up. We'll be probably be averaging over 50,000 by midseason

It's a simple equation for the club. Win and people will go to the games.

Win more games and supporters will buy memberships.

The problem is that alot of thirty somethings and early forties people have been unable to continue what is one of the most important factors in getting supporters.

That is getting thier kids to barrack for Richmond. Ive met a few friends in thier late thirties who have young kids and they told me that they cant get them to barrack for Richmond because kids at school dont and there is no real pull within the team for kids.

Richo virtually pays his wage by being some resistance to this. But the only resistance.

This will bite us on the backside in years to come. The past 25 years has yet begun to hurt

when you thinks about it allot of chicks support richmond i dunno why, but its good. lol

when we become successfule, hopefully soon, these kids will convert and become tigers. i remember when i was in primaray school in the 80's, so many kids converted to the hawks and bombers, kids change their minds all the time , its once the become teens that they then truly start to really support a team

must have been because the punters knew that they were going to hand out footies after "every" win. All i know is, the bars at the G and the Dome must love the tigers being shit, they just rake it in with us. They have a full house at the breaks and throughout the match.. ;)

when we start winning a few more games the tigers fans will come out in there masses and then will see whos got the most supporters even collingwood might be taking home the silver on this occasion

i think without a doubt i have done my part.

growing up in carlton, from ethnic backround, parents uncles, siblings all barracking for the tankers.
i decided to be diffrent and go for the mighty yello & black year 1972 i was 6 years old grade 1. best decision i could of made 1973,1974,1980 and the dissapointment of 1982.

then it was downhill from there but i stuck & still sticking with them
my recruits till know include
wife.......... ex carlton know richmond member
daughter 1 ......................crazy richmond member
daughter 2...................even crazier richmond member
nephew...................richmond member (father goes for dawks mom blues)
cousin (overseas imagrant)........richmond member
cousin 2 (again overseas imagrant ) richmond member

thats 6 members because of my hard work & persuation

we should be 40,000 fully paid members by know.
if the tigers lived up to our expectations we would be.

If we win this week the Giant will be getting closer to waking up! if we win the week after and manage to win a few more through out the season The Giant will be wiping the sleep from his eyes!! if we play finals he will be hungry and someone better feed him!!!:thumbsu:

I have a son who just turned 5 and he has been told that it is the Tigers or the gutter and a wife that follows the Demons who has promised to follow the Tigers when the Demons fall over.
The sleeping giant awakened for a short period of time in the 1995 finals
Miles down against the Cats halfway through the last quater at Waverley in the Prelim and the entire Tiger crowd started singing the club song.
Despite the loss it was one of the best feeling I have ever had at the footy.
I was so proud to be a part of the Mighty Tiger Family
Anyone else that was there that day will know exactly what I mean.
No other club could ever have done what we as supporters did that day.

Pretty big, in fact this might not be big enough to hold us all.

Certainly were, but didn't worry me, just loved being there that day. Will never forget that last quarter, the old man and I singing our arses off, whilst getting spanked by 80 odd points. Remarkable stuff really.

I had a seat undercover that day
I knew it was going to be a bad day when Butch Gale had the first kick and kicked it 55 meters the wrong way

man i knew it was going to be a bad day when i got to the seat and there was an inch of water on it, with the rain pissing down. Found a piece of carboard to sit on that was soaked after 3 seconds and then watched the johhny howat comedy capers. We were ____ed when the heavens opened, we needed dry weather to have any hope. And just to top off the day, getting home in the ____ness of thr chaotic traffic in the rain from the Arctic was as close to armageddon as you can get. ;)

Cogga you make it sound like such a terrible day.
I know I was undercover and didnt get wet (and went to an after game function so the carpark was empty when i left) but how good was it when the crowd started singing
