Drove home with legless body
July 8, 2003

A US motorist drove home about 1.5km with the legless body of a pedestrian in his front windshield before calling authorities to report that he had struck the man with his car, Florida officials said.

Deputies first learned of the accident, which happened about midnight on Friday, from bar patrons who called to report finding two legs near the parking lot, according to sheriff's reports.

With Joseph Markert's torso lodged in his windshield, Daniel Dradeen, 19, to the home he shared with Ronald Brownie and Brownie's son, who called the police emergency line, the reports showed.

Dradeen did no't stop to report the accident because he did not have a mobile phone with him and Brownie's home was only a short distance from the accident site, Brownie said.

"A guy coming through your front windshield tends to rattle you," Brownie said.

and surely the emergency services would have wondered about the initial call - patrons from a bar claiming to find 2 legs near the parking lot!

I don't know how many times I've paused, taken a deep breath and vowed, "I will no longer be surprised by human behavior."

Still, I always am. Wonderful species, humans. Capable of so much....Good/Evil, Kindness/Cruelty, Creation/Destruction, Genius/Stupidity.

I'm not pointing any fingers. I've sampled them all.

Peace/Disturbance,

Wasn't there a case the other day where a woman received 52 years in gaol for driving home with the body of a man she had hit lodged in her windscreen, and leaving him there overnight locked up in her garage?

Yeah I told my sister about the one Danni posted, and she mentioned that woman. And the guy actually died while locked in her garage?

Heard about that - supposedly he wasnt important because he was a homeless man....

She deserves every minute in that cell

Insert some poor joke about drunks and being legless.

Ohhh that is the one i read off Daily Rotten! She got that huge jail time coz apparently the guy would have survived IF he had gotten immediate treatment.

Yeah, apparently. I think she left him for two days still stuck in the windscreen!

Oh my god. I just don't understand how one person could do that to another.

I think it's just frightening to know that there are people in the world who are like that.

I suppose what makes it even more curious/macabre/whatever is that it has happened within a week or so of that other sentence being handed down.

I mean it would be a pretty likely assumption that this particular pedestrian having been ripped off his legs was probably already dead - as opposed to the other incident where the bloke could have survived - but still............just one of those weird timing things I suppose.

These things happen in threes. Look both ways before crossing the street........at least until you read about the third one.

About five years ago, an elderly couople were waiting at the train level crossing on Toorak Rd near the Monash Freeway entrance. They were the first car in the line, waiting for the train to pass.

There was a young teenager on foot, also waiting for the train to pass. As the train approached the teenager stepped in front of it, with predictable results. The elderly couple drove their car around the corner into Auburn Rd and then stopped, with a view to collecting their thoughts and trying to come to terms with what they'd just seen. When they got out of their car to check for any damage to it, they found the head of the youth wedged into their grille.

Whenever I hear about these sorts of suicides, I always think of what a bastard of a thing it is to do to the poor bloody train driver, whose life will never be the same again, through no fault of his own.

Daniel Pollock, did much the same thing by stepping off a platform in Sydney in front of a train. This was about twelve months after he'd appeared in 'Romper Stomper'. Apparently, this was caused by his on-going heroin addiction, coupled with his involvement in the death of a person in the Yarra River, after a car accident, a few months before.

Anyway Mooster, there's your third one. You can go about your business in a normal fashion now.

Life is very cheap for some people. It's all very sad but not a new thing, it's hardly a feature of modern times.

Although I do question the taste of this post, we are told this board is meant for younger people but this kind of story is pretty horrific. Yet a thread about a natural bodily function is locked.

Must have missed that. We are indeed turning American. You can freely associate pain and violence with the human body, but steer clear of pleasure. Maybe we're all happier to read about death and destruction than, well the other stuff.

Some say a man ain't happy, unless a man truly dies..

ever hear the one about the young man speeding down the nepean highway in the 60 zone. a woman stepped out in front of him and cut her in half and her torso peice got turned around and ended up on the passenger seat looking at him (obviously dead) with the 'feet end' (but no feet) pointing towards the back of the car.

freaky stuff!
