Not sure if this is a question that has been asked before, so i apologise if it has (i tried to search). I'm interested for a couple of reasons, firstly as we are still a 'young' club i know a lot of people would have originally had a team in the VFL that they supported. I have a few mates that have always had a VFL team and when the Crows came into the competition, they didn't change teams, they are still Hawk and Magpie supporters. Secondly, I also have a friend in Melbourne who's grandfather would bring him to see the Crows play, when he was a kid, everytime his family went to Adelaide to visit, it just stuck with him, I thought that was interesting.

For me, i immigrated to Australia from Ireland with my family in the late eighties, i had a bit of trouble fitting in with other kids to start with, strong accent that other kids thought was weird etc. When the Crows entered the AFL a couple of friends i did have suggested i come to a few games, i did, and it helped to make me a part of a 'group' of friends. It was an important part of my settling in this country. My whole family are crows supporters and every week my family in Adelaide has a big group of Irish folk that rock up to my folks place to watch the weeks game, its a great tradition.

So basically i was just interested in how you all became Crows supporters, we have a few people based all over this country and the world on this board, and a lot that obviously love footy and more that likely had their own VFL teams prior to 91, so what's your stories?? :thumbsu:

in 1991 i was only 6, had never really watched footy before. one day i sat down and watched a crows game with my dad and have supported them ever since. my favourite player was andrew jarman and i was absolutely stoked when my dad managed to get him to autograph my 92 year book for me.

I never had a VFL side that I supported. I used to watch VFL games quite regularly but didn't feel any allegiance to any of them. I always wanted the SA boys playing to do their best in the VFL. I had a soft spot for the Kangaroos and still can't figure out why. :p

When the crows came in we supported them whole heartedly, finally there was a team that we could get behind in the AFL. My dad is a Port Magpies supporter and was very disillusioned by what the Magpies board attempted to do. Mum and I are both South supporters and my youngest sister at that time was supporting North Adelaide (she was a little fickle as she used to support West Adelaide for a period and now is apparently a Sturt supporter).

We bought Dad a season ticket for the first year for his birthday and in the second year we purchased a family season ticket and have been ticket holders ever since, including being gold members when it was brought in in 1997.

I missed attending two games that first season (one was the Hawthorn game) and up until I moved to Canberra in 2002 I had only missed 3 home games over that period.

My late father was born and bred in the west end of the city as a youngster and barracked for Westies.

So did I of course and followed Essendon (but not with any passion) in the VFL.

Then when the Crows were established was there to see the first game and been ever since. They represented my town against the bad guys.

We were a mad dog central family (still are by the way). before the crows came along.

Were not interested in the vfl at all. Then we started suppporting the crows as soon as they came into existence although i was only 9 then. Ahh seventeen years already

My earliest memories were when I grew overseas with family, moved back to Adelaide when I was 7 (End of 1996) which was the earliest time I was exposed to football.

I hated all this hype about Port Adelaide being the new team during the summer, I just hated Port Adelaide...yet I didn't support anyone at that stage. So I said to myself, OK, I'll support the team which beats Port first, which was Collingwood, so I supported them in 1997, however, when the Crows won against he doggies, and the Pies were well gone by that stage, I adopted the Crows for GF day and never looked back.

I moved over from England when i was 7 and on my first day of school the teacher asked me what footy team i supported. I replied with Manchester United like many my age. She said no Australian footy and i had no idea what she was talking about but the class started violently chanting CROWS, CROWS so I just picked them and here i am. Mad crows supporter

I have always loved football, but never was that much into the SANFL I used to loosely follow Glenelg, but prefered to watch the VFL on television I guess I grew in a time where the league were seperate, but there was a clear difference standard wise IMO between the two. I had a soft spot for Brisbane solely because of their ultimate underdog status back then, I never really supported them or anything, but longed for the day that VFL/AFL would finally arrive in SA.

When the Crows entered I was in year 11 at school and started going with my mum from day one, still am going now, but my mum died of cancer in Nov 2005 and am now giving her ticket to my 7 year old step-son as a passing of the generations so to speak, I managed to turn him from a Port support to supporting the Crows.

Moved to Adelaide in '87 to play SANFL. Played with Peter McIntyre, Nigel Smart and Mark Bickley. Made it pretty hard not to follow the Crows.
Still have a soft spot for Geelong though!

My earliest memories of watching the crows was the 93 Prelim final vs the bombers .. still got a soft spot for the port MAGPIES

I noticed on the 'getting to know you' thread that Dyatribe (??) (can't remember exactly) was a Crows supporter but is now a Power supporter, i wonder how many Magpies supporters a) supported the Crows and b) remained Crows supporters after the Power came in.

Its interesting actually because theres quite a few Power supporters who follow other SANFL clubs apart from the Magpies, and some Crows supporters who followed PA in the SANFL.

I guess theres no real clear cut rule why someone follows a particular team.

My Dad used to play VFL and after he was delisted wasn't really following anyone too closely. When the Crows started I was only five years old and Dad knew Scott Lee and Danny Hughes pretty well so when he told me that I thought it was pretty neat. He was good friends with Scott Lee so he became my favourite player and I still have a #13 Crows guernsey that my great grandma knitted for me.

I used to go to as many games in Victoria as I could and would usually wait by the team bus just to get Lee's autograph. I'd let all of the players walk past me until Lee was getting off and I'd approach him for his autograph. I must have had about five or six records with his name on it. :p

Well I was born the year the Crows were formed, so my passion stemmed mainly from my dad when I was in primary school. He used to play for Sturt and followed a couple of teams in the VFL before signing up for a Crows membership in 1990.

I remember getting really excited in 97 watching the grand final on TV and also in 98 when we had a Crows dress up day at school. Of course in 98, we won the premiership again so we went around to my neighbours and everyone was so delighted, I decided I wanted in on the action. I guess this would have been the point when I started to take note, started going to games and fell in love with Tony Modra (at the tender age of 8 :p). Needless to say, I was extremely upset when he left.

My brother and I used to alternate going with my dad each week, but when I got upset every second week that I was missing out, he gave me the ticket full time. And I guess things have just snowballed form there :)

Once Port made the GF DT jumped to where he thought the grass was greener IMO. Sad, but true I just hope that grass ends up having a bitter sweet taste to it :p

Was a Fitzroy supporter before Adelaide came in. Tried too stay with Fitzroy but would find myself at Adelaide v Fitzroy games with my Fitzroy scarfe on barracking for the crows. The nail in the coffin came when Jamo had to kick that goal after the siren to win, and when he did I was jumping around in excitement rather than hanging my head in pain. I couldnt pretend no longer..

My Mum got me on to them. Dad was a Roos supporter and for some reason Mum talked me into being a Crow. It very quickly turned into an obsession however and I fear it will take a good 15 years off my life expectancy!

My Dad just loved footy and he was english and grew up there so never got to play it anyway he was a norwwod supporter mum was Glenelg and he jummped at the chance at both them supporting the same team! Dad's been a member since 91 and even though I've supported them almost my entire life Mum and I didn't start going till 96 but Mum had one condition......... We had to sit behind the goals so that for at least half the game we could perv on Tony Modra's ass and as mum always said It always looked better in dark blue Shorts!

going to the 98 grandfinal was still is the greatest day of my life and I thank god every day that we were members!
