How Diehard Are You?

My love for this football club is unconditional. I've mostly experienced bad times so I'd like to think I'm pretty harden to been a sub-par club. I am hoping that one day we can experience some kind of sustained success.

I know that being a bottom club has taught me a thing or two about humility. When we do turn things around eventually I won't be digging my heels into opposition fans. I understand the anger, despair and frustration that comes with week after week if poor performances and the narrowest light at the end of the tunnel. I'd like to think in the future we can be better than that
I’ll only be Carlton for life
But it’s weird when I get pumped to see good teams play just so I know how good footy is meant to look like

I do the same. I envy how other teams transition from defence to offence and have to blink twice when I see multiple targets hit in the same period of play and forwards hit lace out on the lead

I look at the players mostly. Who is doing what. Where their strengths are, what they are improving and how they would fit into a team playing finals in a few years. Can't say I'm that disciplined that I cover up the score on the tv or don't get pissed off when I see obvious dumb shit happening, but I've set my expectations which I think are reasonable and I try to watch the game in that context.
You must see something else because fisher and Marchbank aside I've seen nothing of note. Obviously Cripps and the Curnow's but we knew that already. The rest I'm as uncertain on as ever. If not more uncertain than ever that they'll make it JSos and JW in particular

Carlton 4 Life.....Just hurts too see such a proud club on its knees at the moment....in footy everything that is up must come down and vice versa....we have seen dynastys come and gone....we have to ride this one out...you need pain to appreciate and cherish the happier moments in everything we do including the support the CFC.....stick fat no matter what....

My old man had a saying (one tough unit) ... "you can't run with the dogs when you piss like a puppy".

Not overly politically correct ... but, we have pups in our team, look out when the core gets to 50-60 games ..... when they can physically run out 4 quarters of footy.

I haven't suggested all our kids will be world beaters. Can't get them all right. But there's plenty we have worth persisting with - I think a lot of supporters forget just how inexperienced so many are.

I'm talking about what enjoyment has here been watching us this season. Anyone suggesting they've enjoyed watching Dow and JW because they can see where they'll be in 5 years time is lying.

Dow has shown the very smallest of glimpses but not enough to suggest he'll be a star so what's there to enjoy? The milliseconds of a game where he may very well be? 4-5 passages of play over 4 weeks? The kids given games before he is ready it's not his fault it's the selection committee doing the exact opposite to what they're doing with McKay. Dow has done nothing to stay in the 22 all season.

JW. Enough said there about Jack watts in his own thread. Has shown absolutely nothing this season to suggest he'll have a good afl career with us

Relevance to the topic?

You're not actually responding to anything I'm saying.

As I understand it, if you haven't been to virtually every game in the last 30 years, you don't feel the same pain from our club's performances. Try telling my wife this when she has to tiptoe around me during & after games & then does her best to pick me back up after I have hit rock bottom & feel that nothing in life is positive.

I know though that I am not the only Carlton supporter who experiences this & I am not going to pretend that I am more diehard than the next Carlton supporter. What I will say is that I will stay the journey no matter how much pain is involved.

being a WA supporter I resent that

Not taking anything away from you. We have many supporters around Australia like you but no offense, it’s different when you actually go and watch pretty much every week.

BS
Just because you live in or around Melbourne and can go to games, you are more of a supporter than those that cannot?
I live in WA too and yet buy a full membership every year....FULL MEMBER....and don't even go to many games when in WA, as I may not be at home.

Close thread for Christ sake!!!!

My post wasn’t about big noting myself or making others feel like they’re less diehard because they haven’t been to as many games. To be honest, I’m interested to hear if anybody is as diehard as me because at 35 years old and only missing ONE VICTORIAN GAME (that’s for Aphrodite ) since 1988, I don’t think there is anybody as diehard as that and if there is, shout out because I’d love to chat!!

FFS, think much of yourself.

No, I wouldn't. It's far too Vic centric.

I live in a non-football environment and subject my relationships to my passion, even to their detriment. It is my lifeblood. It is the thing that brings me the most pain and the most unbridled joy (my kids bring a different kind of joy). I buy my membership every year. I have moderated a Blues forum for 17 years and soak up every bit of news about the club. I organised sponsorships for years. I'm a tragic and my moods ride on our success and failure from weekend to weekend. Offseasons should be a sweet relief but I am addicted so can't wait to put myself through the wringer again.

If I moved back to Melbourne, I will never consider my support greater than others. I can't possibly get inside their head and hearts to know what Carlton means to them. I take everybody's passion at their word.
I'm with you on this one ODN. It was probably a legacy of us raiding the WAFL and SANFL with open cheque books in the 80s, but we always broke even in the crowd when playing the Crows and Eagles away. In the early 90's I recall the crowd singing our anthem towards the end of game at Subi, such was the level of support in the crowd. Our interstate supporters are no joke.

Broken tv remotes, smashed tvs ,broken fists, holes in walls and embarrassing myself making an absolute arse of myself in front of family and friends yelling at a tv over my football team does that make me a die hard or a dick head

But mate, you don't go to live games. so you are not a true supporter.......... apparently
