I have now become one of those people that gets up in the morning and needs a coffee. I use to pity these people. It made me think, how many coffees do you guys have a day? What type do you have? How do you have it? Where is the best place for a coffee in your city?

Personally i have 2 first thing in the morning, having one now. At the moment i am drinking Moccona and i have mine with no sugar but full cream milk.

Best coffee i have had in Brisbane is at Merlos in the Valley.

I can't stand coffee, I have tried to have it before but the second I taste it I have to spit it out and have something to get rid of the taste and the taste usually stays for a couple of hours.

We've got a tiny local place that makes brilliant coffee - The Coffee Guy at Wooloowin. Fantastic.

I was a Merlo's fan but they seemed to change their blend a little while ago and now it is just too bitter IMO. I know a couple of places that blend Merlo's with another to give it a less bitter aftertaste.

I don't drink coffee often. I drank lots of tea, though. 2 cups (Orange Pekoe, usually) in the morning, iced tea at lunch and a chai tea before bed-teim reading.

Can't stand the stuff. Tastes like mud.

One of the worst parts of working in an office was when someone would lean over your shoulder to show you how to do something and they have coffee breath.

Makes me want to retch.

Only thing worse is when coffee breath is combined with cigarette breath.

Pobt, where are these coffee shops, the mrs and i are always looking for somewhere nice to go for a coffee.

Never had a cup of coffee in my life. Not even one sip.

What am I missing?

I wonder if we did a poll of people with who have kids and how much coffee they drink compared with people without kids what sort of results we would get.ha

I drink anywhere between 2 to 6 cups a day depending on what I'm up to.

At home in the morning I make a home brew with freshly ground coffee, nothing better and that's why you pay $3+ for a nice coffee from the great coffee shops around Melbourne.

Toolman's tips for good coffee:

- if you can ground your own coffee do it. I find there's an immense difference in coffee that's been freshly ground as opposed to coffee that's been ground for over a few days.
- If you like your coffee and you see that the steamer is caked with dried milk-froth WALK AWAY! Time and time again I've been desperate for a coffee and bought one from a shop with a machine like this and time and time again I've had to throw the coffee away as it has tasted like mud! People who don't know how to use a proper barista machine don't clean the frothers and this is the number 1 sign that it's going to be a crap coffee.
- If you're making your own at home, look for the "crema" on top of the coffee to ensure your machine is worth its money? If it's not giving a nice little coffee-crema at the top, then you may as well save your money and drink instant. Moccona is my number one choice for freeze dried coffee.
- You're making your own froth, fill a milk jug to only 2/5 of the depth with milk. Ensure you take the time and buy a milk thermometer to ensure you get the milk / froth right. Otherwise you'll have a too-milky or burnt taste to your coffee (might be okay if you're making cafe' latte' though?). Get the milk whirlpooling to ensure a good froth and even heat.
- don't order a plain capp or black from Gloria Jeans - their coffee is shit! The only way I can drink it is to have the flavoured stuff.
- don't order a cappucino outside of Melbourne!
- Please don't ask for a "Latte'." If I were serving you I'd bring you a glass of milk - it's a Caffe' Latte' folks.
- remember to keep your frother clean and enjoy

Anyone tasted kopi luwak (Civet coffee)?

Unfortunately I have a very scary relationship with Coffee.

I have an Espresso machine at home and DO NOT leave the house before I have made my first dose. 4 shots of espresso with approx half that in milk and 2 sugars, that normally does me until I get to Bean Squeeze a local drive through Coffee shop.

As a Salesman for the Hospitality industry (in particular I sell Beer Spirits and Soft Drink) I am offered coffee all day, which I rarely say no to, and even gave up energy drinks before footy in favour of a really strong Macchiato...

Sad but true, however cannot hold a candle to my father who drank a lot of coffee when he owned his pub and even more now he has a cafe...

Sipping through a double shot caffe latte as I get ready for a weekend away from the kids in Melbourne!

Always had a cuppa in early morning before work, plus numerous ciggies.........but since i've GIVEN UP (6wks 3days etc) the coffee tastes so different, horrible actually, so i dont have that now either......

Good on you for giving up the ciggies, i hope you are doing something to reward yourself. I like the idea of people who quit putting the smoking money into an account. At the end of a year they take themselves away and have a great time living life to the full on the money that was going towards slowly killing them. An ironic holiday!:thumbsu:

Back to the coffee, last night i had far too much beer, woke up this morning at 6am (bloody body clock) with a bit of a hangover, demolished 2 cups of coffee and feel normal again. Coffee you are my friend!

I have just ome back from a weeks holiday, and boy did we have some mighty fine coffee.

Some New Guinea special blend, percolated. Damn fine. The best I have ever had. A local plantation does a nice lot of beans as well. Mt Mee coffee plantation its called.

I am a moccona lady normally.I have to have a cup before I make sense in the morning.
Its the only thing that keeps me going on long 12hour night dutys.

I have mine with milk and 2 sugar. Cream if being special.

:)Many thanks........I'm paying off my credit card a lot quicker, means more money to spend when I come up to GC in May:p..

I think it's the brit heritage in us. Not a fan of coffee but have the odd cup every now and then. Perhaps a couple a month. Only time i like it is when i have it weak with 3 sugars and cream not milk. I am addicted to tea however and couldn't get up without having a cuppa. Average a couple a day, sometimes 3 or 4.
