I drink usually Friday & Saturday nights, then have the occasional mid week session or Sunday session. TBH I don't understand why people wouldn't drink unless they were an alcoholic, or had history of it.
Any non-drinkers I know who pull the old 'I don't need to be drunk to have fun' are either full of it or sit there judging everyone else...
Being 19 going on 20, giving up alcohol is huge for me. Haven't had a sip of it for about 8 months now, and best decision I've made. It's good for my wallet, my health and my decision making.
8 months as a young person in Australia is really impressive, especially if you're a former drinker.

Yeah I can't say I understand the not drinking at all mindset. I can understand not wanting to get drunk or blind, or drink regularly, but to say no I won't drink at all just seems a bit weird. What's a glass of wine or a beer every now and then going to do to you?
I'm probably 3-4 times a week. I can't really go overboard these days due to work and having a baby. That said, with the standard drink recommendations I'm probably well over. Doesn't it work out to something like 3 beers equals binge drinking?

I don't like the taste of alcohol either compared to water, so what's the point? I can legitimately have fun without it and I don't make a fool of myself in public.
Given up forever. I've also seen what it does to people, they become a completely different person. It's just not for me personally.Given up forever or taking a break? Pretty good effort considering socially it is harder to be a non drinker then it is to be a drinker.

this is what i'm trying to achieve. gone cold turkey for about 3 weeks now (early days) and already have noticed a massive difference.
i'm happier, i feel healthier, not spending as much money, making good progress in the gym.

As long as you're not an angry drunk, drink often and alone or are prone to grog-related mischief like shopping trolley racing with your mates down a big hill and ending up with broken bones there isn't much wrong with getting on the piss and having a laugh with your mates and/or random strangers who happen to stray into orbit.
I don't know if it's different with you vonn, but I'm in my mid thirties, been enjoying alcohol immensely for all of my adult life (and for quite a bit of my teens!) and feel no real need to slow down or quit. People understand, and I find myself surrounded by folk of a like mind. I know it's different strokes for different folks though - was the grog a bit of a problem for you?
As for hangovers - drink a few pints of water before you go to bed and bang! No headache the next morning.

i've got a 21st tonight with alcohol provided and a lot of my mates will be drinking. to avoid temptation i've decided to drive and be the deso.
how many times have you been tempted to drink in your 8 months off? doesn't sound like this has happened much, but what tips could you give to resist the social urge to drink?
