Strategy How the Eagles Blew it

I watched that yesterday. Was pretty interesting. Just rank stuff ups from two of our good players.

Video also highlights Priddis' kick to Kennedy which didn't advantage him and Shuey not sticking with and chasing Murphy down the boundary.

Worth putting up with Lyon and Barrett to see the extra vision of the first two as you get non-tv angles on what happened.

Shuey not chasing is a repeat of the Smith incident. Was flat footed already well back when possession was taken and was never going to get within ten metres of Murphy. Utter nonsense TBH.

Sheppard was in a better defensive position to stop his run but turns inboard (looking for his own man?) before the mark is taken.

Mistake from Shuey is getting sucked into the throw in, leaving a man free out the back. Yeo also didn't have an opponent.

The Mackenzie point was actually a good one.

That was a total ****up from him which allowed Henderson to completely get free on his own and kick that goal.
Mackenzie was actually miles away from his man all night. The bloke beside me kept saying "Mackenzie needs to be closer to his man" over and over again throughout the game.

I guess it works when Mackenzie is able to run off him and take the ball out of defence, but cost us badly the other way. If Glass was playing, you know he would have covered for him, but without his experience it didn't work so well.

Menzel was standing completely on his own at the top of the 50m arc from the time the ball was kicked in at the other end until he kicked the final goal. Not a player within throwing distance of him at any time. I couldn't believe it. I was screaming at the players for someone to pick him up but I guess they couldn't hear me from the nosebleeds.

Been an issue with us for 2 years. Constantly leaving players free as if we expect them to not get the ball.
It's disgraceful and you can accept losing if you arent good enough but to lose knowing we weren't showing respect to the opposition is not acceptable.

F**** I wish I was a coach and knew I had a guarantee of 3 years.

The first half of the year would be not giving a rats on the result and instead having the players stick on their man at all times. No one allowed to be more than 2m off their opponent unless they have the ball in hand. Priddis of course can't keep up so he get's dropped.

Play completely defensive.

Then flick the switch halfway through the year, not play man on man at all costs.

MY god would some of our soft **** players learn a lesson.

We blew it by kicking 1.8 in the last.

Checked scores when work finished - up by 14 at 3/4 time, happy enough. Check later, up by 24, missing chances but seem to be on a roll. Check when I get home, we've lost 14.8 to 12.17.

'Fcuking useless c****' was all that came out my mouth. I then made the mistake of watching the last 2 minutes on the AFL website. Could've thrown the computer off a balcony at that point.

Fatigue and just not being able to run can make you look soft in a video, they claimed he would have run harder going the other way, needed to get some video of him actually running hard the other way to prove it rather than just say he did.

I've noticed Kennedy came out and said the number of players used so early is causing problems with team chemistry. Don't know how big an impact it might have, but we have used the second most players this year (behind GWS), while trying to learn a completely new gameplan.

Might be something to that. In the three losses we'd made 6, 5 and 3 changes. From rounds 1 to 3 we only made 3 changes in total.

I think we are not that good

We are slowest team in the camp overall but we play on a big ground most weeks

If you ar a slow team you must really be able to execute your skills with hitting targets

Um we don't do that well either so we are slow and not skilled

Oddly the two guys out Hurn and lecras are our best two kicks ...for different kicks obviously

We miss the badly

Masten is a better kick than Lecca.

Every team looks slow when losing from 24 up in the last quater too.

Really our biggest **** up was early when we let them score the first four goals of the match

Yeah maybe

Shuey and yeo are quick

Bennell is meant to be quick but we kind of don't get to see it

I still back Leda and Hurn as our best kicks for different reasons but can split hairs over it

I disagree, I think LeCras is one of the best kicks to a lead on our list. I know what Kennedy said about Masten but if I had to rank it based on what I've seen I'd say Hurn, LeCras, Masten and then maybe Shuey.

i actually believe we're getting closer to good form!!?? i know many of you think thats ridiculous, but we only just lost 2 games we couldve won and been 5-1 instead of 3-3...and there wouldnt be 80% of the panic banter thats on BF now. thats not to say we wont lose more games. but theres been something else going on, apart from injuries and a virus, and priddis and selwood!?

I agree, but the problem I see is that it only takes the opposition one quarter of sustained pressure (or with Carlton 2 10-minute periods) to nullify us completely. But yeah, the glimpses of good form are there.

The comparison with the hawk is stark, any opposition movement in their fwd 50 and players immediately drop back into defence. we linger.

The continuity of the team in the last 18 months probably hasn't helped too much in terms of our structures failing on occasions.

While the Port game was encouraging you must beat teams like Geelong away to be any sort of chance and we haven't done that since what 06? We are still going to be middle of the road with the cattle we have no matter how much form the team gets. But then again I am a natural pessimist. :)

I saw him say that too, but team chemistry doesnt stop forwards taking marks they should take or kicking goals when they are in a reasonable position to do so. Sure, some of our kicking to the forwards hasnt been great, but its been the same guys we've had in there for the last 7 years that have been kicking it so we cant blame that. We've been rubbish in front of goal for many years and lost many games because of it.
