can anyone give me a little insight to danny hughes. i was wondering how people rate him as a player and if he could hold down a key forward position .

Flanker, who is outstanding overhead mark. Decent set kick. Apparently has worked hard on his chasing, defensive pressure.

He's got all the attributes to make it as an AFL player but he's not had 3 and a bit years on our Rookie list and not played a senior game yet for no reason. I hope he can pull it together though. It would help us continue to build our dangerous ensemble of medium sized forwards.

Excellent mark for his size from reports, been taking double figure marks in the 2's as a lead-up forward. Believe he had 15-16 a couple of games ago but not expecting a bag of goals as he works down the wings more. Decent straight and long kick, kind of sounds like a smaller version of Bate to me. Should be an ok replacement for Petterd - size and marking wise.

Issues he has had in the past is the want to chase, tackle, harass and give second efforts but he seems to have started to improve in those areas. Had a lot of bad luck with injuries that stopped him stringing games together until last year where he impressed. Missed the entire 2008 season.

I'm excited, he could be one of those players who excels in the seniors with better ball delivery and players around him. Great that they picked him over Milller :thumbsu:

He's had plenty of injury trouble, which I suspect may be the reason why Melbourne has kept him on the rookie list so long, as they obviously saw something in him and wanted to give him the opportunity to show what he's capable of at AFL level.

On his ability, I think the others have covered his strengths and weaknesses pretty well, but I would add that he's a rather mercurial sort of player, and someone who can do the freakish things.

Will be interesting to see how he goes, but I'm not expecting too much of him in his first match.

thanks everyone for the info, its not always easy to get a rundown on the newer players when you are a diehard demon fan living in brisbane

I'm excited to see what Danny brings. After 4 years it's a long time for anyone to wait.

This is it for him. He's been given the chance and if he wants to make a career out of being an AFL footballer, tonight is his night

made some bad decision, but kicked a solid goal that is required of an afl player.. not an epic fail, but a fail none-the-less.

wont keep his spot

I was happy with Hughesy. Not bad for a 1st gamer. Good effort.

How was he a fail?

He was good tonight, lead well and had 0 clangers.

Will definitely keep his spot next week.

You're being facetious here BS. I like it when you post mid-week for the lolz. But seriously, how the hell can you manage humorous posting after watching us lose like that?

I thought hughes was good tonight. To me they were trying to replace ricky. That said he did enough to keep playing and making his own name.

Looked like he at least knew what he was doing and could read the play. Agree with Super, dry weather game will give a better idea.

This.

Also, am I correct in saying I heard the 'HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGHES!' chant go up when he got near the ball.

yeah i will admit dad and i got caught up in it lol

But serious note, if BS so obviously trolls can we make a board rule to ignore the little worm?
